Things that always disappoint

For me it's baths. Never quite the experience I crave.

Going to the cinema. It doesn’t matter how good the film is, after about 45 minutes I’m itching to get out of there.

My husband

Champagne.

Fast food - Maccas et al. On the odd occasion I give into a craving I take about 2 bites and think, "oh yeah, this is still shit. Well done."

Hah, yes!

Baths are glorious at first; bubbles are relaxing, hot water feels great, etc. But after 20 minutes the water is tepid, I feel all wrinkly, and my arms ache from holding my book or phone up.

Biscuits. Even homemade ones. They always smell much better than they taste.

Christmas dinner. By the time I've cooked it all, I'm sick of the sight of it.

Fish and chips

Any sort of dessert, really. Never worth the calories and sugar rush, but do I remember next time? Do I 'eck.

Swimming in an indoor pool. I always get excited. Swim up and down a couple of times and then want to go home but there's the faff of getting changed etc. On a warm day, outdoor swimming and drying off in the sunshine is an absolute pleasure!

Grape Nuts cereal. Every couple of years I forget the side effects, and five minutes of pleasure is followed by a day of indigestion and an excoriated bottom.

Premium economy.
Homemade lasagne/moussaka/shepherds’ pie - by the time it’s ready you’ve used every dish and utensil in the house, spent £8/portion and it still won’t taste as good as Cook/M&S.

My birthday, I don't know why but every year I expect it to feel amazing and I just feel a bit meh. Maybe I'm just miserable 🤣

Absolutely this! Smell of luscious ripe cherries, taste of faintly sour dishwater.

Takeaways- expensive, faff of collecting them and they taste disappointing.

Yes, definitely fish and chips. Love the idea of it, but I end up picking off all the batter, it’s too stodgy. I’ve got better with baths now as I take the iPad and a glass of wine with me, but I used to think they were dull. Champagne though?! I would drink that all day if work would allow!
