Hospital food pics!

Anyone in hospital/been in hospital recently and has pictures of their meals? Let's compare!

Here's the roast dinner I was given when I was having DD last month. I couldn't cut the slices of beef with a knife and fork because I was breastfeeding and only had one arm free so I ate with my left hand Blush

And of course, the obligatory tea and toast.

Food was really nice when I was in having my dc. If I ever have another baby I will be asking to have the elcs on a Thursday because it's fish and chips with rhubarb crumble for lunch on Friday Grin

A lot of prickly replies here! I didn’t read your OP as at all critical. It’s interesting to share these things.

That roast looks really nice. The food at our local hospital is apparently very good. I’ll see if I can find photos from DH’s stay.

@Katieandthekids

Tea and toast after birth. Hands down best meal you will ever have in your life. I then had a jacket potato with cheese and beans a few hours later and it was also great haha. Novelty of hospital food wore off after 5 days or so but yeh that doesn't look too bad OP well done for eating with one hand it's good practise for BF life... My hubby would spoon feed me while I tandem fed my twins Grin that is love ❤️

Oh that's just reminded me of DH trying to spoon feed me a jacket potato and beans while I was lying on my side strapped into the monitor Grin

A while back my dd who is disabeld had to go to a&e
She bot lunch, i was amazed

Great that the food is nice! I think strides have been taken I recent years to improve hospital food, so good to see that seems to have happened now.

Those commenting about ‘free’ food: it isn’t, you know. We’ve paid for it in our taxes, just as we’ve paid for treatment.

LividLaVidaLoca · 22/08/2021 20:55

I’m gluten free.

I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and they saved my life.

Luckily I wasn’t hungry for a week or so afterwards, because here is the dinner they rustled up the second night in. Three pots of “vanilla flavour” ice cream and a pudding.

I knew I was recovered when I got angry about the crap food Grin

(Lighthearted, because like I say they saved my feckin life and it’s not their fault I couldn’t eat cheese pie. Everyone told me how good the cheese pie was…)

@BonnyandPoppy

Mine was really nice when I was in last October. Was roast chicken and jelly and ice cream Smile
The dinner looks nice - impressed you got roasties and mash! Jelly and ice cream is one of those things you only get in hospital, like cake and custard. So retro, so comforting!

I once had an omelette and it resembled a wrinkled vulva

lemonyfox · 22/08/2021 21:00

I'll join!

Some form of pudding/pie with chips peas and gravy, maternity ward. We are in the North West if it wasn't obvious 😂

Thanks for comments in my defence, maybe I should have added lighthearted to the thread title but it didn't occur to me that the OP would have been taken any other way!

That looks ok op! I can honestly say I've never had bad hospital food. After I had my first there was a chickpea curry one day, it was amazing! I love the packaged sandwiches they do as well, love a good butty 😂

BonnyandPoppy · 22/08/2021 21:05

@lemonyfox I love steak and kidney puddings!!

I love that you still took a picture of all the puddings stacked up 🤣

No need for a lighthearted to be added, it’s clearly an innocuous thread on a chat forum.

I like to think of those who write negatively getting themselves annoyed enough to leave a comment, pursed lips and furrowed brow.

ForCluckSake · 22/08/2021 21:12

I loved hospital food everytime I've been in. The soups and sandwiches were always on for lunch on the mat ward and they were so so good.

After I got sterilised the toast was awful after surgery so the lovely nurse found me some good bit of cake and biscuits Grin

Lemonsandlemonade · 22/08/2021 21:13

Back in June when I had my baby I had lovely crispy potatoes and an ok quiche.

Morning after giving birth I had a slice of cold toast a box of corn flakes and was given a full 2l bottle of milk to use with my corn flakes!

thatllberight · 22/08/2021 21:13

DH was recently offered a baked potato with a side of chips Grin

LividLaVidaLoca · 22/08/2021 21:13

I updated my Facebook from intensive care the day it happened.

Couldn’t move owt but my texting finger Grin

When I had both my DC we got to choose from a limited menu both lunch and dinner, ordered in advance. I choose cottage pie for all 5 meals I ate there as it was actually really nice! And easy to eat whilst breastfeeding. I don't really understand the complaints about hospital food. Maybe I was lucky. I'm a real foody usually and it obviously wasn't amazing, but better than school dinners.

LakesLover · 22/08/2021 21:18

One of those pictures is lasagna, mash and baked beans. Very Italian.

NigellaSeed · 22/08/2021 21:20

This is more like it. Those all look pretty big too.

I enjoyed all my hospital food but definitely needed the snacks ferried in too. I remember trying to save half a sandwich for the inevitable 3am hunger pangs!

Tibtab · 22/08/2021 21:21

I used to order off the “special diets” menus - I tried loads of stuff, Carribean food, curries etc

Daisychainsandglitter · 22/08/2021 21:21

DD1 was born at home and I was offered nothing even after getting to the hospital. Mind you I felt so sick and weak after her birth I didn't eat anything for hours.
DD2's birth was much better and in hospital. It was 5pm so I got jacket potato, cheese and beans, bread roll, orange juice and a pudding that I can't remember. I was very pleased!
