Hospital food pics!

Anyone in hospital/been in hospital recently and has pictures of their meals? Let's compare!

Here's the roast dinner I was given when I was having DD last month. I couldn't cut the slices of beef with a knife and fork because I was breastfeeding and only had one arm free so I ate with my left hand Blush

And of course, the obligatory tea and toast.

I will never forget the desperate tone in DH's voice when he called me at home at 7 am. He had undergone a hip replacement. He had not been up yet and still had these air pressure sock type things on his legs.

He very plaintively told me his breakfast tray was across the room and he couldn't get it. It was still there 1/2 hour or so later when I arrived at the hospital.

My mum was in a cottage hospital in Northumberland recently. Although the main meals didn't look too appealing the frequent snacks were amazing. Fresh strawberries and cream, scone and butter etc almost two hourly. The housekeeping staff were really good at encouraging people to eat and the nurses were amazing. Small community hospitals are just great for older people

When I had my daughter I was in for quite a few days and LOVED the food. I think mainly because I was so so hungry and exhausted all the time that it tasted a lot better than It actually was. The 'patient cheese' sandwhiches for example Grin

Our hospital (north west) had an excellent very extensive menu, with a section for Kosher, halal, vegan, gluten free, and normal. I don't think ive ever appreciated food more!

I don't disagree that its not good enough and shouldn't happen but its clearly an oversight. Would it not have been easier for him to use his call bell and let people know who could actually move the tray for him rather than wake you at home so you go rushing in at 7.30am?
Caspianberg · 24/08/2021 07:53

@Jent13c - I got told off for using my buzzer! I was in private room, and worried at 4am that Ds still hadn’t fed since he was born 12hrs before. They told me it wasn’t important and I should have just waited until morning

I've never thought to take photos of my food whilst in hospital. Why do you do it? To keep a memory? Send it to family? Post on social media?

My dad was asking as he hasn't been in hospital for about 30 years Grin so I have the photos from when I sent him a text

Side note - they woke me up at 1am to ask what I wanted for lunch the next day Confused

Sometimes family are interested if you are being fed well. And are quite nosey as to what they are giving you. Hospital can be boring so it passes the time I guess.

When ever I’ve been in i’ve sent photos to my husband and we’ve had a text chat about my meals. Taken my mind off things for a little while.

RevolvingPivot · 24/08/2021 09:15

No one ever asked me how my food was 🙁🤣

To share my delight, and enlighten others that such a wondrous thing as a Corned Beef Pasty Pie exists. Also we decided not to share baby photos on social media, so it made a good substitute 😊
Caspianberg · 24/08/2021 09:25

Took to share with Dh to show him that he really did need to make sure he shopped for tasty food before collecting us!

I wonder why they have such weird combinations? I mean lasagne, baked beans and mash?wtf. I would eat all of those separately, but I hate food like that touching other stuff so beans swimming into my lasagne would be really off putting. I would rather just have some beans on toast at one meal then lasagne separately at another.

RevolvingPivot · 24/08/2021 10:18

I had quiche a jacket potatoe and salad. It was nice and a lot more than I expected but for some reason I expected the quiche to be warm. It wasn't room temperature but really cold so I ate that separate to the potato.

Hemingwaycat · 24/08/2021 10:23

I was readmitted last year following my c-section for three days due to infection and wound dehiscence. This was my lunch every day, it was the best option of the bunch. Look at the jacket potato, if you can even call it that. It tasted like cardboard. Think it had been microwaved 100 times.

The sorriest looking jacket potato I ever did see.

Was in hospital with Covid complications in October.

Lunch was sandwiches and soup, wheeled round in a trolley each lunchtime.

In the isolation room one lovely lunch lady would bring me in hot drinks and biscuits at regular intervals. She was the only person who came even vaguely near me during my time there, and always had a little chat with me from the doorway as she passed by.

Something to 'talk' about with dh and teen Dd whilst on my own in my little isolation room with only my iPad as a means of communication. They weren't allowed to visit. If I was eating at least it meant I wasn't too bad - so it was also reassuring for them.
NavyBerry · 24/08/2021 10:34

Not in the UK. Doesn't look appealing but I loved it! After giving birth anything would taste like heaven.
Soup with sour cream, buckwheat & meat, tea.

'Rubbish.

Your opening thread was passive aggressive mocking. You were just not overt about it because you wanted to see which way the wind blew.

You are not there for the food.'

Sorry I don't remember ordering a side of gaslighting with my roast beef Hmm

Yeah to send to family. It's weirdly interesting to see what people are fed in hospital!

I’m struggling to see how that poster got “passive aggressive mocking” (?) from your opening post. Transference maybe. I got “I’m stuck in hospital, bored and fancy a chat” from it.

ZooeyS · 24/08/2021 12:22

The two (2!) corned beef sandwiches I had after having dd rank as some of the greatest things I have ever eaten. Cheap white bread, margarine, corned beef. Amazing what absolute fucking exhaustion will do to you.

I liked having a bit of a record of my day as each day merged in to one after a few days of being there. My family wanted to know what was on offer as they haven't stayed in hospital before. If it was a good menu for that day, I would really look forward to meal times, and it helped get me through my hospital stay.
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/08/2021 18:44

Interestingly, while I was in hospital, it was Dh who was sending me pictures of his meals. He had lost his sense of taste as well (we both had covid), but was still making himself fry-ups for breakfast, and nice dinners - and apparently I needed pictures. It did make me jealous - bacon, egg and mushrooms, in the sun on the patio, whilst I’m stuck in hospital.

I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to send him pictures of my meals in return - but I wasn’t thinking particularly clearly.

OnlyToWin · 24/08/2021 18:46

I never got the tea and toast after either birth. Still very bitter about this!!😂
