Anyone else disappointed by August not feeling summery?

Definitely feels like the twilight of the summer.

Is it like this every year? I'm Starting to think it's every August not just this one.

It's 8.45pm nearly dark and I'm in joggers and a (albeit thin) sweater.

In my mind it should be balmy nights in the garden quaffing pimms but I actually think that most August's are like this.

Was reasonably nice weather today (for this summer anyway) but started to get a bit chilly around 6.30 and didn't warm up until 10am.

I think the Scots have it right breaking up in June

Anyone else disappointed in August?

I should add this is a lighthearted musing!

So disappointed
I'm wearing a hoodie and have been all day :(
Summer 21 is shit

EnjoyingTheSilence · 18/08/2021 21:01

The summer has been shit quite frankly. I can’t believe it’s getting dark early already.

I hate it. The best weather is always late June/early July. Just hoping we get lucky with an Indian summer to salvage some of it.

I had to get the kids a new paddling pool in late June and haven't even had it out of the box yet.

It’s shit, really cold and miserable here. I almost put the heating on. It feels like autumn is on the way

Returnoftheowl · 18/08/2021 21:02

This summer has been poor. I've nice week here in July, then August had just been chilly and grey.

Paulinna · 18/08/2021 21:03

Loving it! I hate when it’s too hot and sunny. We’re only 4-5 weeks away from the autumn equinox so it’s expected that the weather has started to turn.

hugoagogo · 18/08/2021 21:04

August is usually lovely and autumnal Smile

user1494055864 · 18/08/2021 21:04

Yes, I'm bitterly disappointed 😞

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/08/2021 21:05

Yep it’s the absolute pitts and makes all the issues in the world seem even heavier

SmileyClare · 18/08/2021 21:05

Yep I'm gutted!

ISpyCobraKai · 18/08/2021 21:05

August is never summery.
May, June, July, you have a chance, by August it's rubbish.

hugoagogo · 18/08/2021 21:06

It's so nice that the nights are cooler..

zeddybrek · 18/08/2021 21:06

Yesterday I bought a jumper ready for the cold weather. But ended up wearing it by the evening. It is too cold especially compared to last year when we practically lived in the park every afternoon. And urgh more rain forecast for this weekend.

stargirl1701 · 18/08/2021 21:07

We've had a glorious Summer this year in Perthshire. The 2 weeks we spent in Dorset at the beginning of July were stunning.

cherrypiepie · 18/08/2021 21:07

@ISpyCobraKai I think I need to adopt this theory

I’ve noticed how rubbish the weather is for august most years since my DS was born. 3 out of 5 birthdays have been rainy cold and miserable. Only the day he was born was hot and sunny although I might have perceived the heat differently being heavily pregnant/in labour and then stuck in a hot hospital for 3 days.

DismantledKing · 18/08/2021 21:12

I always remember August as being shit weather wise. May and June tend to be much better, and I can’t recall when it hasn’t been lively on my July birthday. We always get a nice couple of weeks in September too.

TeanupFlutter · 18/08/2021 21:13

Definitely, we didn't go away and I was hoping for nice weather to make the staying home holiday better. It's been so grey. Autumn is my favourite time of year but I'm not ready for it yet, I want a summer! The Scots and Irish have it right breaking up at the end of June and going back mid Aug!

GintyMcGinty · 18/08/2021 21:13

I live in Scotland so I am used to it.

DismantledKing · 18/08/2021 21:14

Not only is August shit for weather, but it’s also the start of spider season. Ugh.

LadyCatStark · 18/08/2021 21:15

Scotland definitely have it right. The kids are sweltering in the classroom for nearly all of July and then by the time they get off for summer, they get about 2 weeks before the weather turns.

mrwalkensir · 18/08/2021 21:16

we're only a fluke away from having been under the heat dome in Europe, so mixed feelings here....

Bunnycat101 · 18/08/2021 21:16

August has been shite thus far. Other than the mega heatwave earlier in the summer we’ve not had the paddling pool out.
