I've been browsing a catalogue today and found this picture of this kitchen. What's the cut out bit in the island for do you think?

To store a large appliance like a food mixer?

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/08/2021 18:30

I'm going to guess it's for some sort of appliance - a stand mixer or slow cooker, etc.

No idea but I want to hang around and find out!

Bed for the cat?

Artfully arranged basket of fresh produce?

Artesia · 17/08/2021 18:31

Is it like a built in step stool so little kids can be up at counter height? Like this but incorporated into then island.

Whinginadeville · 17/08/2021 18:31

That whole section of kitchen looks really unfinished
The strange cubby hole for drinks, the strange gap next to the cut out bit…

I’m thinking toddler platform

Bimblybomeyelash · 17/08/2021 18:33

My first thought was a place for a child to stand and help cook.

Galassia · 17/08/2021 18:34

A friend of mine has a missing cupboard (designed like that) which was for the dog's bed, so that she didn't have to use a crate. She said the designer told her a lot of people did that. I'm not sure what that one would be in the photo, though - you could still have the island covered and fit a KitchenAid or something in there. It looks ugly, I think.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/08/2021 18:43

Square wicker basket, cushion in suitably Modern Country print, cat supervising proceedings or just relaxing in perfect, sheltered repose.

MoiraNotRuby · 17/08/2021 18:44

Maybe it's a built in naughty step. What does the caption say?

FlamingGoat · 17/08/2021 18:45

Drinks fridge maybe

Galassia · 17/08/2021 18:47

I did a reverse image search and found out it’s a house in Berkshire with this info -

Not much else though!

Ginormous ice bucket space?

Random789 · 17/08/2021 18:50

Must be for the oranges, then.

welcome2021 · 17/08/2021 18:53

No caption with it. It's bothering me.

The gaps at the back surely mean it is for something fitted. A kid up on there woud be forever dropping things behind/inside.

Maggiesgirl · 17/08/2021 18:58

Toddler step, my niece has one in her kitchen ( it was suppose to be for large cook books but her DD took it over as soon as they moved in.

Something fitted would still look a lot better under the worktop than just sitting there like an afterthought, though? It looks really ugly to me.
