I've been browsing a catalogue today and found this picture of this kitchen. What's the cut out bit in the island for do you think?

Ooh, or for a sous vide? (A "sous plan de travail" in this case!)

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 18/08/2021 22:45

Mini fridge for wine etc?

StCharlotte · 18/08/2021 23:31

I don't have OCD but that's making me twitch.

@TheChosenTwo

It’s really badly finished whatever it’s meant to be, the end panel is at a different height to the rest of it Confused The whole front looks just scruffy and unfinished to me. My SIL has something similar to this in the house she bought, not in the middle of an island but at end of the units at the edge of the kitchen. She put a little cushion in it so you can sit in it. No idea what it’s actually for!
I'm pretty sure the end panel is supposed to be that height. It is obviously to accommodate something - an appliance panel? It's not just been cut short randomly ffs

This whole thing has clearly been bugging me as I had a dream last night where I saw another picture of this kitchen and the hole was filled in and the worktop expanded. I remember thinking "there! that's better"! Grin

LynetteScavo · 19/08/2021 11:03

As the picture is in a catalogue, I think someone needs to phone the company to ask, and report back to put us all out of our misery.

Badabingbadabum · 20/08/2021 12:47

Still no answer!? I can't believe how much this is annoying me. Almost as much as that bloody Bosworth thread.

hedgehogger1 · 20/08/2021 12:49

I dont like it. The photo makes it look weirdly slanty and what's with the weird unfinished gap on the side

TheSockMonster · 20/08/2021 13:21

You’re not the only one Badabingbadabum!

Lindtnotlint · 20/08/2021 13:32

It must be something solid like an appliance. Otherwise that side panel would be far too fragile.

Oblomov21 · 20/08/2021 13:38

I don't know. But I don't like it. I'd order a square one.

Dancingsmile · 20/08/2021 13:45

Place your shopping bag to empty ??

marbleborough · 20/08/2021 23:21

Ice machine. The lower bit on one side is for the vent?

Madcats · 21/08/2021 09:59

They've already got what looks to be an ice machine in their massive fridge.

In my mind it has to be a chippy style deep fat fryer! (I'll skip over the absence of an extractor fan).

Has anybody suggested a terrarium or fish tank?

I even started looking to see if I could find the websites of local kitchen joiners (the HOUZZ page was for the firm that did the extension)!

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 23/08/2021 16:04

DP is a carpenter and has installed numerous kitchens over the years and he hasn't got a clue what it's for.

He did say that it looked badly done in that part so possibly temporary (although, if that's the case, why would you make that part so prominent on the photo??)

NannyGythaOgg · 23/08/2021 16:46

Huge ice bucket for parties, lots of cans and champagne bottles.

Badabingbadabum · 24/08/2021 10:02

Is it some kind of new super troll who creates odd, unsettling kitchens to put online? Surely it is the only answer to this?

larkstar · 24/08/2021 15:20

@Dancingsmile I think that's a good suggestion.
