This is an A&E trip right?

Tripped over dd’s scooter in the garden and fell with all my weight on my leg. It’s not broken as can weight-bear (with pain!) but my god it’s so bloody sore. Bruises came up very quickly.

This is an A&E trip right?

I'm putting 50p on it not being broken. Based on OPs pain level.

That said, every single time I've been to A&E, as a child and as an adult, they've said "go home and take some painkillers".

WetBench · 12/08/2021 17:01

Glad they’ve done a blood test as well OP.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/08/2021 17:02

Ouch, that looks nasty. I hope you get seen soon.

Honestly whenever I've thought I may have broken something its been 'just a sprain' the one time I was convinced I was fine I actually had a broken elbow.

Libertynan · 12/08/2021 17:10

yikes OP

You did the right thing heading to get that looked at.

Good luck

emmathedilemma · 12/08/2021 17:10

@Ostryga

I e had a blood test and should be getting a wheelchair to X-ray soon. So fingers crossed I can get home soon and my leg isn’t going to drop off.
I reckon it would have dropped off by now if it was going to ;)
OrlandointheWilderness · 12/08/2021 17:12

Fingers crossed it isn't broken!

That’s what people said to me when I broke my leg.

You definitely need to have that checked! A few years ago, I tripped and bruised my leg on a cut tree stump in a children's playground. . Waited till the next day to go to minor injuries, by which time the bruise had swollen up like half a tennis ball. I could hardly put any weight on that leg at all. The nurse told me that I had a haematoma and said sternly that if I didn't go home and go to bed (with my leg elevated) for the next few days, I would end up needing an operation. My DH was away at a work conference and I was looking after two small DC on my own, but the nurse was so insistent that I had to call DH home and do as I was told.

Ostryga · 12/08/2021 17:44

No break! Hooray! Can finally go home and ice it, rest it and take my very lovely painkillers.

It's never a good idea to go by pain level - the time I broke my wrist it was quite sore, but only what I'd consider a big bruise would feel like. I've had more painful paper cuts. It was a week before I finally realised it wasn't getting better as quickly as I thought it should, and and went to get it looked at.

Went home in plaster up to the elbow.

Phew! Great news, hope you can take it very easy now - and throw that scooter far, far away!
