If a box suddenly appeared with everything that you had ever lost inside it...what will you look for first?

I'd look for my old baby blanket that went missing one day on holiday when I was around 8.

My Nan made it me, and I still wonder where the flip it could have gotten to. We were staying Inna caravan and I couldn't find it one evening...we looked all over.its a real mystery.

What about you?

My DD's first red book which I think was lost during a house move. A letter my dad received from the King at the end of WW2 which all children got and he gave to me which I lost when moving out of home Sad

LordOfTheThings · 10/08/2021 23:47

The watch my grandpa gave me just before he died, when I was 9. It still really bothers me that I lost it.

Itsbeen84yearss · 10/08/2021 23:51

A video camera with footage of my first born

MrsMiddleMother · 10/08/2021 23:53

My wedding ring! The replacement has never felt quite right

8Track · 10/08/2021 23:59

a chunky silver swirl ring. took it off to wash my hands and it never reappeared.

PullTheWeeds · 11/08/2021 00:05

A blue stones Rox stacking ring that my oh bought me as a surprise when we were young because he wanted to get me something nice with his first wage from his first graduate job. It was a bit big and I've no idea whether it fell off my finger or was tidied away or was knocked of the windowsill when I took it off with my other jewellery at night. Still feel sad about losing that 10 years on. I'm still 10% hopeful that I will find it in my mums house one day as I was living there at the time. Maybe behind a wardrobe, in pocket in a long unused bag, caught in a skirting board. I can but dream!

A pair of pink leather ballet flats that laced up around the ankle. They were lost in a house move 30 years ago and I wish I still had them

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/08/2021 00:13

If it’s not cheating - can I add the little beanie lamb toy that ds1 had when he was about 4. We were on holiday, and he made up a game called Bingy, where he threw the lamb backwards over his head, and shouted Bingy!

He over-enthusiastically Bingy-ed the lamb over the hedge, into a thicket by the Lane to the farm next door. We searched, but the lamb was Gone.

We didn’t play Bingy any more - well, ds1 is 28 now, so he’s a bit old for it now.

pascheretloire · 11/08/2021 00:13

An Opal ring that needed a stone replacing. I'd put it in a little box for safekeeping until I got it repaired, and I think it was thrown out by accident.

My husband's passport. Again I think must have been thrown out with some paperwork. I had to leave for our holiday without him, while he made three return trips to Liverpool for a replacement before joining us four days later.

LadyCluck · 11/08/2021 00:15

The watch my Dad bought for me.

Amima · 11/08/2021 00:23

In 2000 I went for a wee in my mum’s house and took my ring off to wash my hands. I put on in the window ledge. Went downstairs, got to the bottom of the stairs and realised I didn’t have my ring on. Went back up and it was gone! No idea where the hell it went but it’s never turned up and I’d like it back.

The other thing I lost is my photo album of my grandad’s family. My gran gave it to me because I’m the only one that still carries his surname. I showed it to my aunty one day and it vanished. She claims she didn’t steal it.

noblegreenk · 11/08/2021 00:31

An engraved petrol lighter. It was the first gift dh gave me. I was on a night out at a pub and it was in the pocket of my leather jacket. At the end of the night my jacket was gone but there was another leather jacket in its place. I think the owner of the jacket left behind accidentally picked up the wrong jacket. I was so sad about that lighter and it still annoys me now.

Linnet · 11/08/2021 00:46

My in laws gave me and my dd’s pendants for Christmas one year. I put mine on my chain to wear right away as it was lovely. Two weeks after Christmas I took it off one day to have a shower and when I went to put it back on a couple of days later it had disappeared. Haven’t seen it since.

I’m really annoyed because I’d only had it two weeks and also I’d put it on a chain that was from another necklace which was adjustable and I can’t find another one like it anywhere.

One of my dds had a friend over after school and I often wonder if they took it, they were the only person in the house apart from the family the week it went missing.

The baby I miscarried 🙁

Thegreymethod · 11/08/2021 00:58

My wedding and engagement rings 😢 I hate myself for losing them, we don't have loads of extra money so waited a long time to even get married and saved up for ages for the rings, they weren't even that expensive (compared to what others would spend) I loved them!! Took them off one night because I had sore fingers and haven't seen them since. I get all panicky every time I thing about it, still now a year later, but I feel like they will turn up one day, don't know why, I've searched the entire house, but I still feel like one day I'll find them and be shocked about where they were 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

MissCruellaDeVil · 11/08/2021 01:03

One of my DS's toys he lost on holiday, gosh he cried for days and wouldn't sleep, I even tried to get a matching one but he could tell, it's one of his first too.

HollowTalk · 11/08/2021 01:08

@thatonesmine

A silver and jet necklace bought on a visit to Whitby. I took it off one night, put it on the bathroom windowsill, and never saw it again.
Could it have fallen behind the toilet cistern?
DeedledeDee · 11/08/2021 01:09

My lamb.

I'm 63 and still miss my knitted lamb that was knitted for me when a baby.
I guess my mum got the pattern out of Woman's Weekly.
The lamb was pale blue ,very soft wool with pink paws, eyelids and inside ears. The eyes were closed with long eyelashes .
I miss it still to this day and suspect my mum got rid when I left home but never owned up.
I searched and searched when home visiting in my 20s but never found it - it's gone and I'm so sad.

The baby I miscarried 🙁
Oh yes.
Justyouwaitandseeagain · 11/08/2021 05:13

A very special bracelet given to me by a great uncle as a child. I played with it as costume jewellery but he only told my mum how particularly special/valuable it was after I lost it.

A small toy my DC dropped when out. We scoured the pavement straightaway but couldn’t find it.

Some precious baby items belonging to my deceased sibling which were stolen in a burglary.

bringonyourwreckingball · 11/08/2021 05:39

Diamond earring from a pair my grandmother gave me on my wedding day. Not hugely valuable but sentimental value and they were very pretty. Also the le creuset pan I accidentally left behind in my last student house share.

Hebditch · 11/08/2021 05:40

Great thread! My (now 15 year old) DS’s pink toy car he lost when he was about 4. A tiny plastic robin which my grandmother gave me as a mascot for my GCSEs over 29 years ago- it must have fallen out of my pocket because one day it was gone and I was so upset (passed all my GCSEs though!)

FrenchFancie · 11/08/2021 05:54

Can I have a box for someone else? My 94 year old grandmother has been widowed for 20 years - she still talks about a Whitby jet earring and necklace set my grandfather bought her and which some scumbag stole from her not long after he died. I would dearly love to be able give that back to her, because of the happy memories of when he bought it her.

SusieSusieSoo · 11/08/2021 06:05

My teddy. Left in the hotel room in France on a school trip Bear

This is why ds had several identical bunny snugglers when he was small & also why his favourite teddy is not allowed to come to the supermarket, out for walks, to the beach etc...
