If a box suddenly appeared with everything that you had ever lost inside it...what will you look for first?

I'd look for my old baby blanket that went missing one day on holiday when I was around 8.

My Nan made it me, and I still wonder where the flip it could have gotten to. We were staying Inna caravan and I couldn't find it one evening...we looked all over.its a real mystery.

What about you?

Not lost, stolen. My wedding dress. Decided to have it cleaned before storing it away (after the wedding) it was so beautiful the dry cleaners displayed it in the window, I suppose to show passers by that they provided that service. The day I went to collect it, I was told they'd been burgled the night before and it had been stolen. It had been made especially for me and unless someone who was 5'8" tall and (back then) a size 10-12 took it, it would have cost a fortune to have it altered.

Even though it definitely wouldn't fit me now, I would still love to have it back 35 years later to gaze at it's simplistic beauty once in a while.

My engagement ring 😔

SunshineCake · 10/08/2021 23:02

DDs piglet she had from newborn. Thankfully I bought two so she has one but I'd still like the other back.

A pair of earrings and a ring I sold as bought by my ex and he'd broken my heart. We talk occasionally and he asked about them.

My security, trust and non broken heart.

@AbbieLexie

A silver frog brooch - it just disappeared.
Weird, I had a silver frog brooch that disappeared too!!! Maybe they are just transient....
HighInTheHills · 10/08/2021 23:04

@CheerfulBunny why don't you take your topaz earring to a silversmith and ask them to make you a matching one? I bet it could be done easily and probably fairly inexpensively.

I feel your pain about the loss of half of a favourite pair of earrings, I had a replacement made for one that I lost.

A Super Mario case containing all my DDs games for her DS console. I hate losing things (not that anyone likes it, but I hardly ever lose stuff) and it went missing around the time of our house move, but also when DD had stayed with her Gma. Years ago but it still bugs me.

The family christening gown. I think it was first worn by my great-great grandmother, so 6 generations were baptised in it. My daughter was the last baby in the family to use it, but after my granny died while I was pregnant with my son, we couldn't find it in her house. We think she must have lent it to someone who didn't give it back.

HardStaringBearFromDarkestPeru · 10/08/2021 23:13

I'd love to find my healthy brain - psychiatric problems & a brain injury means life took a massive U-turn & it's hard not to think 'if I had a normal brain, maybe this would be different...'

There's some family jewellery I've put in a safe place but can't remember the safe place (due to above). It's got wedding & engagement rings that date back to great-great-grandmother ie late 1900s. If I could find all of that, I'd be very happy!

CorvusPurpureus · 10/08/2021 23:16

A sterling silver baby rattle that belonged to my great grandmother. It made its way down 3 generations to me because I took a huge fancy to it as a toddler.

By the late 80s, it was hanging happily off a mirror in my student flat with a random pair of Rocky Horror suspenders wrapped round it, & then a dreadful landlord dispute with a shit boyfriend involved happened, & quite a lot of my stuff got binned along the way.

From everything I know about my great grandmother, she'd have been highly unlikely to have given a crap about her rattle, & would have had Things To Say to both the dodgy boyfriend & the dodgier landlord.

I miss it, though. I still remember its little kewpie face & slightly off key bell!

MorbidMuch · 10/08/2021 23:17

My original Gameboy. I've been trying to find it for years. I wouldn't have thrown it away so it must still be buried somewhere unless someone has pinched it.

Grenlei · 10/08/2021 23:18

My dad's sovereign ring. It was the only piece of jewellery he owned, he wore it on his little finger when not at work. I kept it after he died intending to get it made into a pendant as I couldn't wear it as a ring it was too big even for my thumb (dad had huge hands), and either it got lost or someone stole it - probably latter as it was worth a fair bit - at one of many house parties I had (my life was very chaotic back then unfortunately).

Amandasummers · 10/08/2021 23:24

A necklace my parents bought me that I’m pretty sure when down the bath plug hole. DD’s little grubby beanie Winnie the Pooh and ds’s jellycat monkey (both of which I believe my ex has and it really upsets me)

Gilead · 10/08/2021 23:28

My Grandmother’s ring. It was stolen, a woman called Dawn pinched it. Forty odd years ago now, but I’ve not forgotten.

Greystray · 10/08/2021 23:29

My first teddy bear. It didn't get lost exactly, more just got passed down the line of siblings until presumably it fell apart. Being the oldest I literally have nothing left from my childhood, it all got passed along as soon as I was deemed too old. I've love to have my teddy back.

memberofthewedding · 10/08/2021 23:30

Some items of my grandmothers jewellery which were left to me in his will but which somehow "disappeared".

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/08/2021 23:32

My childhood teddy bear. He was in a bag, in the loft, and Dh was decluttering, and sent him to the tip. As soon as I realised, we raced down there, with me in tears, but it was too late, and teddy had gone to Pitsea tip, in the crusher.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 10/08/2021 23:32

The one diamond earring I lost on NYE 2000. It was a beauty!

The diamond ring I got for my 15th wedding anniversary and lost somehow over the past year or two.

The beautiful heavy silver bracelet DH designed and had made for me. Left in a hotel room with God knows what other lovely things.

DSs really ugly ancient stuffed pony he lost when he was 5. He so loved that horrid creature!

Summersnake · 10/08/2021 23:33

My mind

Ideasplease322 · 10/08/2021 23:34

My beautiful silver ring that I miss every day, and the spare key for my car😂

Ideasplease322 · 10/08/2021 23:35

Oh and about three iPhones, my birth certificate and a Garfield pen I lost when I was seven

MintyGreenDream · 10/08/2021 23:36

My virginity

Messyone · 10/08/2021 23:39

My grandmothers ring that was given to me. In my mind I put it somewhere safe and have never been able to find it again. Still feel devastated that I lost it.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 10/08/2021 23:39

My baby doll that inloft in a museum when I was about 3. My dad went straight out and bought me a new one the next day (which I still have) but I think about that doll a lot. I was pretty distraught about it.
I also left a brand new bottle of perfume behind in the train station when I was around 16. It was quite a centimental scent and I used birthday money to buy it so I didn't have any money left to buy another one.
I had a big clear out about a year ago and threw away some pretty sentimental stuff because I was panicking about being pregnant and not having enough room for all the baby stuff. I quite regret that now that the baby is here and I could have easily fitted most of it in a box and stuck it under my bed.

Jennylou88 · 10/08/2021 23:40

Ooooo I love this thread!

The charm bracelet my grandma gave me when I was maybe about 10yrs old, I adored it! Would spend ages looking at all the different charms.

The diamond bracelet my husband gave me on our wedding day, no idea where on earth it could be!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 10/08/2021 23:40

I left, not inloft
