If a box suddenly appeared with everything that you had ever lost inside it...what will you look for first?

I'd look for my old baby blanket that went missing one day on holiday when I was around 8.

My Nan made it me, and I still wonder where the flip it could have gotten to. We were staying Inna caravan and I couldn't find it one evening...we looked all over.its a real mystery.

What about you?

As a child, I had a teddy bear with a musical box in his tummy; I would like the key to it as I can’t remember the tune. 🧸

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 10/08/2021 20:41

My baby photos. Mum claims dad has them and dad claims mum had them. Basically there is about 4 photos of me under 10 left.

Pewter hair clip of pigs that must of slid out of my hair the first day I wore it.

xYerDaSellsAvonx · 10/08/2021 20:46

A ring my dad made for my mum with her initial on. He was a jeweller and it was wonky because he was losing mobility after several strokes. I'm hoping it eventually turns up in my mums belongings.

My original engagement ring

Fifipop185 · 10/08/2021 20:47

My original engagement ring. It was only 0.10ct diamond with a simple gold band, cost £100 in 1999. It was the last £100 DH had left after we'd bought our first flat. It represented a place in time where we were broke but very happy and I didn't need a big flashy diamond ring.

The diamond became loose in its setting around 2009 when DS was born and I took it off and put it in my jewellery box in my bedroom with the intention of getting it fixed. I've not seen it since.

DH has since replaced it with a lovely 3 diamond eternity ring, much bigger and flashier, but I pine for my original ring. I have my suspicions of who may have been in our house and taken it (they're no longer in our lives for other reasons) but I have no proof. Would love to have it back.

A pair of unusual gold earrings that my Dad bought for me when I was at University. They weren't worth much and I rarely wore them but I kept them in a box with the little note he sent to me with them. He's not the sentimental type so it was really unusual for him to buy a present that was not entirely practical and even more so to add a message to a present (unless you count instructions for use!).

I left them in my ex BF's house for a few weeks with the rest of my belongings when he dumped me unexpectedly and I was sleeping on a friend's sofa whilst I found somewhere else to live. When I returned to collect my things they had gone. He was adamant I must have taken them with me and lost them but I suspect he gave them to the girl he was trying to impress at the time. I only hope he left the note tucked in to the bottom of the box- it was a lovely thing for a dad to say to his daughter but would have seemed really creepy if you thought it was from anyone else.

The necklace I wanted to wear on my wedding day. Took it off to put it somewhere safe (a little dish on the bathroom window sill). Never seen again.

Like a PP my teeth.

Also my virginity.

Fifipop185 · 10/08/2021 20:48

@Iamblossom Snap. Thanks

  1. Wilf, a fabric rat.
  2. Squeaky Noddy, who had demonic eyebrows.
  3. A spotty ball that I lost when about seven.
JamieFrasersLover · 10/08/2021 20:52

My virginity....I'd be more careful with it next time

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 10/08/2021 20:57

My metal Barbie pin badge that me and my mum spent ages collecting the tokens off barbie boxes and sent off for, which I dropped between the floorboards of the Wendy House at school. It burned down a few years after and I looked for it but it wasn't there.

VienneseWhirligig · 10/08/2021 21:00

My first wedding ring. My hands swell up in the heat so I took my ring off one day and put it on the mantlepiece. DH put it into a ring box to prevent it being accidentally knocked into the fire, and put it in a safe place. He couldn't remember where though. He bought me a replacement, but I'd still love to find the original.

My Bracelet and necklace my grandmother gave me - silver and coral - Mexican.
Lost the necklace in the south of France and the bracelet in a burglary here so I’d be astonished to find them and together again.
The beautiful earring I lost during my mother’s funeral and the one my sister lost at the very same time! If I believed in ‘spookies’ I’d think mum was trying to send us a message.
An old passport which had a really important residency connected stamp in it. Awful dramas and fear connected with that loss. Still to this day. Was in a wine bar when I last had it I think Confused

niceupthedanceagain · 10/08/2021 21:04

My cuttings book from when I was a journalist - left it behind in a quick escape from a flatshare

iwannabelikeyouhoohoo · 10/08/2021 21:04

The phone I lost last year which had about 6 months of un-backed-up photos on it, the first 6 months of DS’ life Sad Everything is double backed up now, but I feel so sad about all the pictures and videos I’ve lost.

BikeRunSki · 10/08/2021 21:05

My dad’s Swiss Army knife. He was very possessive of it, his father (who died before I was born) gave it to him for his 21st birthday. I borrowed it without asking, and lost it. He was in hospital at the time, and died a few weeks later without knowing.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/08/2021 21:06

My pink bin.

It disappeared one day, never to be seen again.

AbbieLexie · 10/08/2021 21:07

A silver frog brooch - it just disappeared.

Mommabear20 · 10/08/2021 21:07

A blanket I had as a kid, secretly think my mum binned it as she hated me still having it at age 12 🤷‍♀️

Other than that no material items, but my grandparents and my rabbit would be what I looked for first!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/08/2021 21:09

A multi patterend woolen cardigan I knitted in 1983 and lost at uni 1984. It was so lovely and warm and took ages.
A ring with a rose quartz stone that belonged to my DGM.

drspouse · 10/08/2021 21:09

DS Tigger that he lost in the snow in an Austrian ski resort.
All my single earrings.

notacooldad · 10/08/2021 21:09

An old iPod. It wasn't old at the time though. I would like it back just to know that one of DS's friends hadn't stolen it.

HeronLanyon · 10/08/2021 21:11

Oh iwannabe so sorry. Me too - lost a memory card on the scilly isles with hundreds of Unbacked up photos many of my dad who was very ill and who died soon afterwards. It’s very upsetting.
I even back up my iCloud photos on actual memory drives as have heard too many tales of how they can be lost.

Chocolatebuttercream · 10/08/2021 21:11

The box of wooden Christmas decorations we used to use on the tree before my parents split up. They both have different ones now of course, but I'd love them back.

Oh and my waist

OlivesTree · 10/08/2021 21:12

A hankie that my grandmother gave me to carry on my wedding day. I lost it that day. Sad
