If a box suddenly appeared with everything that you had ever lost inside it...what will you look for first?

I'd look for my old baby blanket that went missing one day on holiday when I was around 8.

My Nan made it me, and I still wonder where the flip it could have gotten to. We were staying Inna caravan and I couldn't find it one evening...we looked all over.its a real mystery.

What about you?

The silver coloured squirrel pendant my granny gave to me as a child. It had a beautiful cut glass tummy and it was my favourite. No idea where it could have gone, it’s been lost many many years. I trawl eBay searching for a replacement, but I’ve had no such luck. It wouldn’t have been worth anything, but I’d hoped if it was mass produced tat someone would stick one on to try and sell.

ring my great-grandmother left to me, lost when I was 5yo

Upwardtrajectory · 10/08/2021 22:15

I reckon I would get a lot of surprises in a box like that!

I’d look for the boot that went missing from the swimming pool changing rooms. I reckon some arse thought it was funny to take it, but they were quite expensive (for me), really comfy and I loved them. I still have the other one, just in case.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 10/08/2021 22:17

My rainbow hedgehog broach that I lost at the beach when I was about 7. I was utterly devastated, we searched everywhere before we went home but couldn't find it.

nonotmenotI · 10/08/2021 22:22

I lost me keys when I was 13. I know I put them on my shelf and they just disappeared. I never found them.

swapsicles · 10/08/2021 22:25

They'd be a fair bit of jewellery, nothing expensive but I can recall several pieces I have no idea where they are and weren't sold.
A suitcase with dd's baby clothes and some of mine too, we left our house one night due to violence and a neighbour said she'd keep it as I only took what I could fit into my dads car, never saw it again.

My lovely scarf which I accidentally left on the plane.. it was white with little coloured swirls which went with everything.. bought abroad so not able to replace.

A camera that has photos of Justin Bieber on it lol

A small onyx and silver ring that my mum gave me. She's still alive and I have other jewellery from her but I really loved that ring.

MrsAvocet · 10/08/2021 22:28

My late Mum's wedding ring

RoastedHazelnutLatte · 10/08/2021 22:29

And a brown foal stuffed toy with space for pyjamas. It was my absolute favourite and I used to talk to it like a friend. I really really miss it.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 10/08/2021 22:29

My mother's sewing basket, lost on my father's watch after she died, and the slides of my childhood ditto.

And DC2's cuddly, which vanished one afternoon. DC2 won't care any longer, but it would be nice to have it back

ladygindiva · 10/08/2021 22:31

My vintage 60s suede coat, my mum had it for her 21st birthday, passed it on to me for my 18th. I lost it at a pub a couple years later. It wouldn't fit me now but dd1 would have loved it and looked fab in it.

thegreywoman · 10/08/2021 22:31

My marriage certificate. I lost it when moving away after leaving my husband! The reason I'd like it back is because it was signed by all the guests at the wedding (the custom in the religious sect I belonged to at the time) and as it was over 50 years ago I'd love to be reminded of who was there and wonder what had happened in their own lives since then. I think there would have been probably 30-40 names.

SingingSands · 10/08/2021 22:35

1st - My special cuddly toy from when I was a kid. It just disappeared one day when I was about 10 and I was devastated. My parents pulled the house apart looking for it, but never did. I still don't really like to think of it, it was like a death to me.

2nd - my DS's special cuddly toy that we lost at a shopping centre when he was nearly 3. He was distraught, I was distraught (guilt and the memories of losing my own) - the journey home was just me and both kids crying our eyes out whilst poor DH tried not to lose his sanity. We replaced the lost toy with a similar one, which has served him well ever since - he's now 13! I think he'd still be delighted to find the original though.

A religious necklace my mother gave me that her mother gave to her. I didn’t generally wear it because I am not the same religion, but it’s a meaningful item and the actual charm is small enough that I realized I could add it to the back of the necklace I wear most days as sort of a little dangling clasp. I wanted to have it done in time for my mother’s funeral, but I couldn’t find the necklace. I really hope it’s still in my house somewhere and I just open something some day and find it inside.

Kolo · 10/08/2021 22:35

Is this from the plot of a book? It should be! midnight library-esque, showing all the things (material) we miss but how we don't really need them.

PattyPan · 10/08/2021 22:35

A glove my grandma knitted for me that fell out of my pocket one day. I still keep the other one.

delilahbucket · 10/08/2021 22:37

An amethyst necklace my dad bought me for my 15th birthday, although I didn't lose it, the ex's mother borrowed it and it was never to be seen again. Then I would look for a gold ring my mum gave me which was intended to turn into wedding rings but it is yellow gold and we've gone for platinum. We were going to sell it and put towards the wedding rings.

FrenchyQ · 10/08/2021 22:40

My engagement ring or the video of my dds first day on earth.

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 10/08/2021 22:42

A little tiny plastic baby that I lost when I was a child. I think it got hoovered up. And a pair of pyjama bottoms that I think I must've left in a hotel but I always wonder what happened to them.

I'd want a tag on the items to know where they'd been lost.

I'd also give my mum her shorts back that I accidentally left in Cuba. As soon as I realised I rang and asked someone to check with the hotel but they were long gone. My mum was really cross that I'd lost them.

AlexaShutUp · 10/08/2021 22:43

My toy rabbit that I lost as a kid. Cried about it for years. Sad

I still have the knee length suede coat I bought from Dickins and Jones in the mid sixties. If I remember rightly it cost me about 27 guineas at the time - my mother was horrified at the price but I said it would last a few years and be worth the money! I suppose I'm keeping it against the day I can finally fit into it again.

I wish Grin
