Just looked them up the are not fruit bats they are flying foxes 🦊 pretending to be bats 🦇

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/09/2021 23:00

@OhWhyNot - Berlin has mainly six different types of bats (all protected). From pipistrellus (tiny fits in a matchbox) to myotis (size of a blackbird) and sizes in between. Mine was the latter, the 'yearlings' occasionally lose there way and end up inside.

Zitadelle - a winter quarter

OhWhyNot · 08/09/2021 23:08

Aww that little bat is cute

The flying foxes of Sydney I believe are drunk in the mornings from the fruit (not sure is that’s true maybe just full) I would come out of my door and that would be hanging in the trees next to the railings they would glance over but not be bothered by me at all. I wish I had taken photos.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/09/2021 23:28

ohwhy Flughunde was the word to google. They are marvellous! I have seen them at the zoo in one of those 'free flying areas'. They are endangered, too

DoctorTwo · 08/09/2021 23:57

Happy birthday Helena, hope it was more eventful than mine!

Gingerwarthog · 09/09/2021 06:12

We live in an old house and bats (fruit bats) live in the roof. We watch them flying out in early evening. Occasionally one gets into the house itself but if we turn out all lights and open the windows they tend to find their way out quickly. A bigger problem is when small birds get in the windows.

Well I don't know about dull and unexciting - this made my blood boil!

Had a text to say blood test on Tuesday. So I go and have it done. Have problem with veins in arms so they always have to go for the hand. Left hand in this case. They claim there is noting on the computer about me having a blood test. I said I had had a text about it and was told to come and where. I said to just do what tests they did before (because I didn't know exactly what needed checking). Later on that day I get a phone call from the heart failure nurse asking what happened? Why was it cancelled??? I said I did turn up on time, had blood taken, he printed out my name stickers and as far as I know that was it. Somehow the blood was either no sent or they did not process it the other end????

So I had to go back the next day. I asked the person taking my blood to check all was ok before they took my blood and she could not say why it was cancelled the other day. If it wasn't properly booked in then I wonder how come I got a text?

Anyway, to cheer myself up afterwards I went for an ice cream sundae (too exciting, I know!) Coffee, vanilla, something else I cannot remember and a healthy dousing of cognac!! Yummy!

I have a hi-vis sighting to report! Was lying in bed when a broad Bristolian accent started having a phone conversation under my bedroom window, sounded like the other two guys he needs for his work party aren’t arriving til 9.30 (they’re doing something with a mini digger across the road). Got up to have a look, he’s wearing bright orange trousers!

Newbabynewhouse · 09/09/2021 09:18

I put a fresh t shirt on but dropped jam on it so now need to change it

Sunbird24 · 09/09/2021 09:23

Bother, the other guys have turned up and they’ve got the pneumatic drill on the go. Orange trouser man is not there, but another chap has an orange hi-vis vest. Maybe they’re sharing.

They couldn't afford a set each, so they split it!

How are you feeling Mouse? Hope you are better now. DH is still feeling bad though at least that means he is finally doing his pcr test. He is trying to wfh but really struggling and has slept mostly today and about 5 mins work so far.

I have 1pm meeting re one school and 6pm meeting re other school. At least it is cooler here so the room is no longer spinning.

Silkiecat slept with me all night, she started off on dh then he moved her to his pillow and went to sleep on single bed as he says she disurbs him and she was very happy to take his whole pillow and I woke up to her little face next to mine again. She then got panicked by the sunlight again and went on my bedside table, dh did his transporting old cat and she peed. I guess that is the downside of transporting old cats.

Silkiescatz · 09/09/2021 11:05

DH has definitely done the test now, could hear him being sick about 3 times and then coming out saying that was not fun. I am not sure how much fun he was expecting.

QuestionableMouse · 09/09/2021 12:59

Feeling a little better again today. I hope he's okay!

Window1 · 09/09/2021 13:42

But if you're not going out today you don't Wink
MissConductUS · 09/09/2021 14:19

Welcome, @Newbabynewhouse, and thanks for sharing your sartorial news. I agree with Window, if you've nowhere to go, it's purely optional. How old is your baby now?

Having the implant placed last night was about what I expected. My jaw is still fairly sore, but not terrible. I also managed to get a pretty good night's sleep, which surprised me. I could have gone in to work today, but since I had already put in for the day of annual leave, I'm just going to do some shopping and have a lazy day. I did manage to get out around sunrise for a two mile walk and spend some time on the new stationary bike.

And speaking of shopping, I heard on social media that a local couple with a British ex-pat husband has opened a British shop in a town in my area. Their website is a bit bare, but here it is:

www.thehamletny.com

I don't get over to that side of the county often but will visit it at some point.

I'm sure we have bats in our area, but we've never had one in the house.

Mouse, I'm glad you're feeling better.

Silkie, did he have to self swap for a PCR test?

Silkiescatz · 09/09/2021 15:17

Glad you are starting to get better Mouse hope you do not have isolation for too much longer though at least you have 2 beautiful cats to isolate with.

MissC Glad the treatment was not too bad. Yes DH had to self swab and he is very particular and not the easiest of tests. I have only had one done in hospital and mine had to be redone several times as I have a permanent cough from allergies / asthma so one done the throat was very challenging. At least he was not sick in his car, he is very precious about his car.

Had the meeting with school. They had said me the wrong link so I got in a meeting with another parent and then they sent another wrong link to same meeting and then they gave up and moved to Teams. DH normally likes to listen to the meetngs, he will never speak, but he was not well enough but he has stopped sleeping now and is doing a bit of wfh. Can hear him on calls saying how ill he is and coughing all the time telling them he may have covid.

Nydj · 09/09/2021 15:22

I bought two bags of cassava crisps during my walk today. Am going to be extremely generous and share them with DH and DS next week 😇.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/09/2021 15:44

Better news from my mortgage guru, though the advice seems to be to rent for six months for various obscure financial reasons. All good except we have the arseholes pets and rentals are non existent at the moment anyway.

DH has been very keen on being sent links to houses, and is somehow more annoying when he's engaged in the task than when he's not.

Silkiescatz · 09/09/2021 19:47

Listened to DDs new schools year 11 presentation which was excellent.

DH has been sleeping again and coughing until nearly sick, DD noticed he was ill and asked him how he was.

Having a Chinese tonight, king prawns with mixed veg, quite stuffy here tonight and have just ate ice cream so far and drank a lot of lemon squash.

PilatesPeach · 09/09/2021 19:53

I won a competition - no cash, just kudos and some alcohol and chocolates.

Gingerwarthog · 09/09/2021 20:12

Feeling very crisp and efficient as have sorted out annual leave, DD's homework planning and some financial stuff. Even DH said 'We are very efficient today' which is high praise.
Wartycat on knee.
Reading Vogue as reward to self.

Newbabynewhouse · 09/09/2021 20:26

@MissConductUS

I did have to go out... I had to go and post my vinted order as I'd almost left it too late to post the £3 boots that I'd sold 🙄 (not even making this up for the sake of this thread!!!) So I changed my top! ... my baby is 6 months old now currently sleeping with a fan on...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/09/2021 20:26

There will be cake tomorrow: DD turns 21. Home baked as per tradition and bought as I lack DM's skill for making 'Sahnetorte'. We have a small Hot chocolate cake and a strawberry vanilla cake.

it is my day off, so I will go in to work as we have project to deliver.

HelenaJustina · 09/09/2021 21:43

DC2 turned 12 today. I made a carrot cake yesterday on my birthday, I’m not bitter as requested as it’s her favourite. Just had a slice and it was absolutely delicious, good baking me.

Miss glad it wasn’t too horrendous. Dental work is the worst!

Ginger I’ve been efficient as well today, made 2 x opticians appointments for DC and done a food shop. Very satisfying.
