Lemonsandlemonade we were in Harlech, now in Barmouth for a couple of days then on to Aberdyfi. It is really beautiful. Have also managed to swim in the sea every day. In the interest of dullness I can also report that I got a really bad cramp in my calf whilst running on Monday and am still limping.
Happy Birthday HelenaCake

Squirrel26 · 08/09/2021 09:32

Woken up by dog at 2.10am. I was in the middle of a dream where I was playing in a hockey match (playing really badly because I haven’t played hockey since school and I wasn’t good at it then). Took ages to get back to sleep. Not very with it this morning.

Silkiescatz · 08/09/2021 12:09

DH is also not very with it and has taken morning off to sleep. Silkiecat went with him but came to end of the single bed and put her little head round to look at me.

HelenaJustina · 08/09/2021 13:32

@Silkiescatz can you not take DH to a drive in? You’ll get your results much more quickly, have you any lateral flow devices in the house he could use in the meantime?

@IWanderedLonely we’ve been to Aberdyfi a couple of times for holidays, it’s so gorgeous, I’m very jealous!

Silkiescatz · 08/09/2021 14:01

I think the pcr test has now arrived and dh wfh almost everyday anyway and is allowed to do full time wfh so its not too much of an issue to wait.

MissConductUS · 08/09/2021 15:57

Welcome, @pollyglot, and thanks for sharing your lockdown activities news. How long have you been retired? I'm looking forward to retiring myself, but unfortunately, it's probably two to three years away.

Helena, happy birthday!

Silkie, I hope your DH feels better soon. Is he feeling pain in his sinuses now? If so, there may be an infection.

I'm off to the oral surgeon this afternoon to have him place an implant and discuss what to do with another tooth that has lost its crown due to a fracture. That one will probably need an implant at some point too.

I'm taking AL tomorrow, as I know I'm going to be too sore tomorrow from the new implant to work effectively.

Helena Happy birthday from me, too!

I have to recount two wildlife adventures:
DD wanted to put her mask on for shopping and felt sth tickly at her face - yes, a cute little spider had gone to sleep in there.
The other adventure has to do with quite a large but young bat, that has hopefully left my bedroom.

Nydj · 08/09/2021 17:05

Happy Birthday @HelenaJustina!

Good luck with the house hunting @Champagneforeveryone

I hope all is well and floofy chez @Silkiescatz and your DH is feeling better soon.

@MissConductUS, I hope your dental woes are fully sorted soon - it all sounds very painful!

You have all inspired me with references to the green frog over these threads so I started with Duolingo and am now on day 240 of Spanish. I don’t feel like my Spanish has improved as it should have but still, it’s something.

Also, a few weeks ago, there was much talk of swimming and it inspired me to finally do something about it instead of just thinking about it and making up excuses not to go. Today was second session of swimming after a break of over ten years. I remain a terrible swimmer but it was good to get in the pool again.

Thank you all for nudging me from my natural state of total inertia.

Looking forward to cooler weather after the mini heatwave this week.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/09/2021 17:18

nydj Congratulations on your streak! Did you already know Spanish and are revising or are you a new starter?
The owl has a good didactic method to her madness.

My proplem is that most languages are only availabe for speakers of English.

mathanxiety · 08/09/2021 17:19

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, hope you got the bat sorted out. One of my DDs woke up one morning a few years ago in her apartment to find her foster kitten sitting on her Roomba watching a half dead bat flap on the floor, squeaking intermittently. The kitten and the older cat had both had their rabies shots the previous week, which was a good thing because the bat turned out to be carrying rabies.

Happy birthday @HelenaJustina Cake

Best wishes for your dental work, MissConduct. DD4 is currently awaiting what I sincerely hope will be the last dental visit for a long time. She will have a crown put on a molar next week.

Gingerwarthog · 08/09/2021 17:46

Loving Mouse's cst.
Well done Nydj - am now properly addicted to swimming again.
What a lightning storm we had this morning - the rain went on for ages...,
Quite dramatic!!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/09/2021 17:51

Math I quite like them and they are a protected species.
I asked google but they only told me how to get rid of ... pipistrels ?, but this bat was ordinarily sized and so DD asked into her group chat and a friend in India had experience and gave us instructions. I have to wait for dusk to make sure it left, and then i'll protect the windows.

Silkiescatz · 08/09/2021 19:26

DH has got sinus pain from the teeth to forehead but what is worrying is how out of it/extreme drowsiness he is but he has another sleep which has helped a bit.

It is so hot here but gradually cooling down and should be last very hot day until next year now. I am so dizzy with it but temp is going down.

DD is back from seeing friends and had first day back at school. DS is having problems at school so I have a meeting tomorrow.

QuestionableMouse · 08/09/2021 19:41

I also had awful tooth/sinus pain. Was very tired at the start too. Glad you're posting updates, I've been wondering how he's getting on.

HelenaJustina · 08/09/2021 20:10

Thank you for the birthday wishes all! My day has been bookended by niceness but unfortunately work/DC taxi/life had to be done in the middle!

Gingerwarthog · 08/09/2021 21:28

Happy birthday Helena!

Champagneforeveryone · 08/09/2021 21:34

I am seeking an item on eBay and it's generating a great deal of excitement.

In my rather mundane life it's a bit of a novelty to be so popular Grin

Nydj · 08/09/2021 22:17

Thank you @Prokupatuscrakedatus and @Gingerwarthog. I did Spanish at school for all of one hour a week for a year so I am a complete beginner really.

Squirrel26 · 08/09/2021 22:28

I went on a date once with someone who worked in bat protection. I asked a lot of bat related questions (I was interested). I think he thought I was making fun of him (I wasn’t). There was not a second date. But it didn’t matter because I’d found out everything I needed to know about bats.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/09/2021 22:31

@Nydj - You'll find that your brain has not forgotten the language, it is still there. I recommend netflix for additional practice.

When I was at school last century there were generally only two foreign languages available (apart from the classics), namely English and French. English from year 5 (10y) 3 hours a week and French from year 7 with no escape. I am trying to 'revive' my French with the Owl, too.
DC have so many more MFL to chose from Envy

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/09/2021 22:37

Squirrel A date well spent!
We are hopeful that this bat has found its way out, at least we have not had any flight activity. I will sleep on the couch again tonight.
DD's friend who not only has experience with invasive bats but also with invasive monkeys is supervising via WhatsApp.

Nydj · 08/09/2021 22:37

Fingers crossed that I have retained some of my school Spanish Prok but my schooldays were also in the last century.

OhWhyNot · 08/09/2021 22:42

I saw a bat the other evening. Was very excited by this have never seen one around here told ds and he couldn’t have been more uninterested Confused

If you like bats you must go to Sydney they fly above the city and it’s look like Gotham City. A few lived in a tree outside my flat and would greet me in the morning Grin

Happy Birthday HelenaJustina

Trying to get myself in the mood to iron …

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/09/2021 22:45

OhWhy Sidney sounds nice, but at the moment have to make do with the bats in inner city Berlin.

OhWhyNot · 08/09/2021 22:51

Are they big? one I saw was very small

They are fruit bats in Sydney they are huge
