Beautiful weather here too. Lovely view of sea from apartment. I said to dh to take a photo and he said I will take one later and went back to sleep. Then when he woke he looked and said someone took the sea away Smile as tide has gone out. Been so lucky with the weather, 2 weeks with no rain. Shock

Looked up the beautiful large coloured birds we saw in Tresco Abbey gardens that ds loved. They were the male golden pheasants. The lots of small birds eating cake with us and going on ds hand were song thrush.

Silkiecat never ventures more than 2 metres from back door which is ideal for dh, they both get seperation anxiety. Lazy day today, both aching a bit after yesterday so lying in bed looking at view. Had porridge and golden syrup for breakfast with lots of milk.

Silkiescatz · 29/08/2021 15:41

Dh did take photo of Isles of Scilly sea from the little plane.

Looks beautiful Silkie.
Porridge with golden syrup is one of life's great pleasures.
Me, DM and DMIL in kitchen, having made apple and rhubarb crumble together which is no mean feat as we all have set ideas on how to make authentic crumble.
DMIL likes lots of cinammon.
DM hardly any sugar.
Me - sugar, almonds and ginger

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/08/2021 17:24

Silkie Looks lovely!

NDN's cats expected me to open the box of dry food they like better, but i was forewarned. No they give me looks!

HelenaJustina · 29/08/2021 17:55

Silkie that looks beautiful! Our parish priest is just back from 2 weeks in Scilly, he had a lovely time too.

I’d like a lie-in tomorrow, she said calmly

MissConductUS · 29/08/2021 18:53

Happy Sunday one and all. I took a day off from MN yesterday.

We have given up on trying to fix the stationary bike and ordered a better one, with the option to have the company set it up. They will also come to the house to fix it while it is under warranty. DH is relieved to be done with his job as a bike mechanic. It's supposed to ship within a week. I went for a vigorous walk this morning.

DH mowed the lawn for the first time and found evidence of moles that DS had not reported, so went to Home Depot for the treatment that kills the grubs the moles feed on. He also put down fall fertilizer. We're supposed to get the remnants of Hurricane Ida on Wednesday.

Champagne, let us know when your feline overload returns.

DMil got her invitation for a booster vacc. And we agreed as she no longer has capacity.

DH has agreed to buy a new pair of trousers, his old ones are beyond repair.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/08/2021 19:31

ChampagneCat returned, apparently threw what was left of DH a withering look and has spent the rest of the day fast asleep Grin

Silkiescatz · 29/08/2021 19:53

Hope you can get a lie in Helena 2 weeks in Scilly would be lovely. Would love to go when the puffins are there but its May half term and gcses next year for dd then for ds year after then A levels x 2.

Dd just said when she and ds went to abbey gardens by themselves a bird was eating from her plate.

prok dh is also a very reluctant clothes shopper. He never thinks anything needs replacing then he goes round shops for 3 days looking for 1 item muttering they are all too expensive and in France they are so much cheaper. I then ask when in France was he last shopping and he says 20 years ago then he says oh that maybe why prices are higher here.

Just had an indian meal.

Gingerwarthog · 29/08/2021 20:17

Prok and Silkie - DH will buy any trousers you like as long as they are mid- brown chinos. He has about 15 pairs in the exact same shade that to him are significantly varying hues...
Glad to hear Champagne cat has returned.
DM is currently trying to translate Billy Connolly's Scottish humour to a very bemused Dutch DMIL.

Silkiescatz · 29/08/2021 20:25

Dh only wears the beige chinos, once he found a shop selling them on sale for 15 pounds a pair and he was so excited to have found them at their price in France 20 years ago he bought 3 pairs. His shorts are exactly the same colour but shorter.

When i met him all his towels had about 20 holes in but he was adamant no need to buy new ones. And he had about 150 socks full of holes incase he needed them again.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/08/2021 20:49

DH has absolutely no interest in clothing whatsoever - filming is involved in one of his jobs next week and a colour for trousers was specified. He has 3 pairs of trousers in that colour - 1) patched but with holes, 2) with large holes and 3) only to be worn while gathering berries.
"But they do not film me from behind!" is what he says.
Silkie DH would do exactly that. Grin

I’ve just FaceTimed with my parents. Apparently my dad has bought some new trousers, ‘because I had a spare £20.’ (My dad is in fact very financially comfortable since the only things he likes to spend money on are going swimming and buying tickets to cricket matches.) I bet they’re top quality trousers… Hmm

HelenaJustina · 29/08/2021 22:38

I’m waiting for a cheesecake to chill in the fridge before adding the double cream and mascarpone topping (it’s a strawberries and cream cheesecake, Hummingbird bakery recipe). Listening the Archers Omnibus while I wait. We’re off to friends’ for a BBQ tomorrow which is where the cheesecake is destined for.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/08/2021 22:55

DH is The Man From FatFace, with a sprinkling of Barbour shirts thrown in. Any attempt to deviate to possibly Crew or White Stuff for example, is met with a horror quite disproportionate to the suggestion.

Silkiescatz · 29/08/2021 23:30

When I met dh he was quite mad professor in appearance. I eventually persuaded him that the charity shop really needed his holey towels, socks and trousers (and put an apology note in and some decent stuff of mine) and he after much muttering about uk prices (despite having the money) got better clothes so he looks pretty smart now. His Mum was Shock and said I have never seen dh look smart.

Sent photos of our trip to dhs aunt as she has not seen us for 2 years and she said that dd and i looked good at kayaking, that dh has always been rubbish at sport and both the boys looked lazy in the photos as they were leaning back and the girls looked sporty. Both the kids are excellent at kayaking, dh was very quick to volunteer for the double and let ds do the work and I struggled to keep up in my single one for 3 hours.

mathanxiety · 30/08/2021 00:11

I got caught in not one but two downpours today, one leaving Mass and one picking up DD4 from her job. They were the only two downpours we had.

Dcat is currently sprawled on her back on the kitchen floor with her paws in the air, zonked as usual after her wet food.

I am trying to work up a sense of urgency about doing the laundry.

HelenaJustina · 30/08/2021 09:32

@mathanxiety
I am trying to work up a sense of urgency about doing the laundry.

I love this! Describes my attitude to much domestic work.

HelenaJustina · 30/08/2021 09:34

I’m trying to work up a sense of urgency about going on a run. This is harder with DC1 to physically manoeuvre me out of the door (as she did on Saturday)

Silkiescatz · 30/08/2021 10:03

The sea is coming back, can see it coming in from our window.

Still recovering from kayaking and walking a lot, we have 2 swimming slots today with pool to ourselves so hoping to get to one of those otherwise just easy day as busy day tomorrow. Dh has just woken up, i have been awake since 6.30am.

Silkiescatz · 30/08/2021 10:10

We have a plug socket in our ceiling, I didnt even realise that was possible. Dh has plugged his phone into it.

Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 30/08/2021 12:11

I have to choose between doing the washing-up (painful as can't stand up for long because of various ailments) or going for a swim which I should do as it's good for me and is the only exercise I get but I actually don't enjoy, or carrying on listening to an audio book I am enjoying. What are the chances are the washing-up will get done before dark, eh?

Silkiescatz · 30/08/2021 12:20

I have moved our active day out to Friday as non of us are feeling very active apart from ds and one of us needs to be able to catch him. May go swimming later. Dh is asleep again.

MissConductUS · 30/08/2021 14:55

Welcome, @Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver, and thanks for sharing your activity deliberations. I vote you go swimming. It doesn't sound like the washing up will get done today.

Silkie, we have power outlets in the ceiling in our garage. The garage door openers plug into them. I've never seen them anywhere else.

We had a good Zoom call with the kids and MIL last night. DS's microwave/fridge appliance was finally delivered, so he made a trip to the local Shaws supermarket to stock up on drinks and snacks. DD starts classes today, DS's classes start on Thursday.

I had another crown come off over the weekend. I had a lot of them put in at the same time about seven years ago, so this is probably the second of several. Fortunately, the dentist can see me at 4:00 today to cement it back on.

Lots of mini cars going past now with horns and flags, apparently its the Mini Madness annual event.
