Champagne, I hope you weren't stitched up in A&E. Posh vegetable chips can't hurt, certainly.

I need to text DS to see if his rental fridge/microwave has been dropped off. He was supposed to have it on Monday.

Ginger, you have my sympathies. House guests are always a trial.

A day out for DGS's birthday, with seals, catfish and rolling down a hill until he was thoroughly dizzy.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/08/2021 07:56

Disgrace Rolling down hills - I have lovely memories of that, though I did it last about 50 years ago.

Squirrel26 · 28/08/2021 09:14

I can’t stand rolling down hills any more. Or doing cartwheels. My inner ear is not ageing well.

Apparently there are three words that are a ‘tell’ to a US audience that you’re trying to pass off a Canadian location as their country, and ‘sorry’ is one of them. I’m not sure that the most unbelievable part of most of the TV I watch is that Bob from Toronto is portraying someone from Ohio, but I could be wrong.

New phone is here. Thank God. The other one was too big for my freakishly small hands. Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/08/2021 09:22

DH is planning to bake a plum cake and an apple cake this afternoon. The traditional tray variety.

We still have not heard from our LL. And we still cannot use the bathroom he used as a reason why he needs more rent Grin

I am going to spend today trying to plough through more of my to-do list so that I can enjoy the Sunday/Monday of the BH weekend guilt free!

Gingerwarthog · 28/08/2021 12:10

DH did not make Sachertort - I made Victoria sponge with buttercream and strawberry jam which we ate last night and then again this morning (with blueberries).
Sachertort is promised for today. I have lemon yoghurt cake as a standby. We will also be making two large quiche Lorraine's.
Weekends with guests revolve around food. At present everyone is draped around the garden reading cook books or detective novels.

Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 28/08/2021 12:21

Hello, may I join in? I have had stress induced IBS for the past 10 days and am eating Marmite on buttered sourdough toast as comfort food. (I need to lose an awful lot of weight, but am eating so little at the moment that the comfort food diet is working for now, luckily!) This looks like a great thread to calm my BP down, thank you for posting it!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/08/2021 12:29

Sachertorte is lovely but I'll have to make do with plum and apple cake and DD will have dough to make something chocolaty with.

Squirrel26 · 28/08/2021 14:55

Marmite on buttered toast is up there with the best comfort foods ever!

DoctorTwo · 28/08/2021 17:12

I fed a starling out of my hand earlier. It then hopped up onto my knee and accepted more food from me. It was great, really made my heart sing. Passers by were all commenting on how strange it looked. I replied that it was lovely. Starlings like pizza, apparently.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/08/2021 17:20

It is a good year for wasps - they are pollinators and predators and steal pieces of bacon - my bacon.

Gingerwarthog · 28/08/2021 18:27

Plum and apple cake would do for me...
Quiches are being made and we are now having red wine in the garden.
Made it to a local beauty spot today for a walk by the lake and some old fashioned ice creams ( hard scoop, taste vaguely of salt).
Managed to get a photo of the whole family where everyone actually looked at the camera and no-one made peace signs with their head at a jaunty angle.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/08/2021 19:12

Ginger In order to fit a rectangular cake into a round container (because of the wasps) we had to eat the edges, naturally.

Gingerwarthog · 28/08/2021 19:16

Well done Prok.
I call this ingenious.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/08/2021 19:34

I am - calmly of course - proud of myself Ginger Smile

Today I collected and put outside 15 wasps and one fly. Spiders are allowed to stay.

Gingerwarthog · 28/08/2021 19:54

Must say... I am missing Silkiecat's Shelf updates. Wartycat raises a paw.
Had to clip a matted fur clot from Wartycat's coat and he is not happy. Has gone to sit on MIL's knee.

Silkiescatz · 28/08/2021 23:47

We are now in the castle apartment. Very busy day. Started with breakfast in Tresco, had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs then walked 1.5 miles to the kayaking and went kayaking around the smaller islands, then walk round the coast, then beach with the kids, back to b&b, picked up on a small train, taken to jet boat. Got jet boat over to St Marys, just us on it, had ice creams then bus transfer to St Marys airport. Had a lovely cake and white hot chocolate. Then went on the small plane in front row by window just behind pilot over the islands and back to Lands End. Bus transfer to Penzance. And drive 3 hours to castle on the coast. Just had a bath and now in bed. There were two dogs on the little plane, a very cute labrador puppy. Not sure if they take cats, rabbits or chickens.

No news from Silkiecat though no news is good news at her age. Have a video of the rabbit. Quiet day tomorrow. There is a pool here and a theme park, more for under 8s but DS is very excited about it.

mathanxiety · 29/08/2021 05:19

Ended up working on Saturday. I have several weekly chores to get done on Sunday as a result. Hoping to clear out sundry leftover bits and bobs (and a packet of mushrooms) from the fridge and do a big clean out under the stove top.

My check engine light keeps on appearing and then disappearing - luckily (fingers and toes all crossed here) I'll be picking up another car next Saturday after a delay in delivery of two weeks so far. It's a used car but with less than half the miles of my current rustmobile, and I've probably jinxed it again now. I'm hoping the check engine light stays off long enough for me to flog the old car to a second hand dealer for a few hundred $$.

HelenaJustina · 29/08/2021 08:20

That sounds exhausting but very exciting Silkie!

DH’s car keeps flashing at me and telling me to change the engine oil, I’m resolutely ignoring it as it’s way beyond my skill set to do such a thing.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/08/2021 09:12

I have to iron all my work shirts today - linen is supposed to be crumply but not that crumply.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/08/2021 09:46

We have a "better" car now so I feel I should probably heed warning lights. Previously they would have to stay on for an extended period of time to cause any great consternation. Likewise with noises and rattles, they were only deemed worrying if they could still be heard once the radio has been turned up.

Lovely weather here already, this means a quiet day at work is unlikely.

In worrying news, ChampagneCat is missing. In truth she's not appeared for her breakfast, and her cat flap doesn't open until 7am so she's not exactly missing. However DH I'm not bothered if we have a cat at all is beside himself. It's quite sweet in a way, though I'm glad I have work and don't have to witness the constant pacing.

Gingerwarthog · 29/08/2021 10:15

Beautiful weather here. Sitting outside having coffee and have given everyone yesterday's apple crumble for breakfast. Took DMIL her crumble in bed. DFIL has waded into my collection of Ann Cleeves' Shetland novels and is happily reading them.
DH still promising to make Sachertort.
DD and Wartycat asleep.

Gingerwarthog · 29/08/2021 10:17

Hope Champagne cat is Ok Champ.
I would be pacing like your DH. Thought I'd lost Wartycat recently (he was only hiding after a vigorous brushing episode) and was distraught.
