I grew courgettes last year and ended up leaving them on neighbours' doorsteps (and running away) as I had such a glut.
This year it was broadbeans....Grin
I am intrigued by the Posh Italian supermarket Miss!
What else do they sell? I have an image of Uncle Giuseppe in a striped apron getting stuff out of a barrel..
Went swimming today in the sea, in a wetsuit. Go me!
SJane - have finished Song and now on Saints of the shadow Bible (Rebus). Recommend!!!!

Champagneforeveryone · 22/08/2021 18:04

I'm going to venture one in a marrow cake, which BBC Food assures me will be "extremely moist".

This is the depths of desperation I have sunk to Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/08/2021 18:21

You've got me - I've put Rebus on my list now.

DH and I are of the opinion that it is time for DD to move out - she needs a place of her own and she needs to meet people. She's perfectly capable of doing so, it is just cheaper and living space is rare and expensive (bc. airb&bs, property locusts and other misuses of living spaces).

MissConductUS · 22/08/2021 19:15

Ginger, Uncle G's has everything, but they specialize in high quality prepared foods and Italian foods. They also have a full service butcher, bakery, cheese dept., etc.

uncleg.com/

We buy mostly pizza doughs, breads and meat there. They fresh grind beef sirloin mince there everyday which makes fabulous burgers. I'll also order a prime rib roast there or a full beef tenderloin for chateaubriand.

It's a lovely store and a fun place to shop.

Is there anything on the website about the cake tasting delicious or even nice? Or is it just ‘moist’?
Gingerwarthog · 22/08/2021 19:47

Miss! have just spent a happy half hour looking at Uncle G's website!
I want to be...at Uncle G!
That Tuscan Bolognese recipe looks awesome by the way.

Good luck with the storm MissC. It sounds like a tough week for you - I hope you’re feeling better soon and you don’t lose power.

It’s just started raining here. We walked the dog early, along with the entire dog population of southern Maine, and he had an amazing time chasing around with them. He’s now worried that he won’t get his usual afternoon walk. He’s right. He won’t.

DD is packing for college. I’m not sure there is a dorm room big enough for everything she’s taking :-D

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/08/2021 19:54

@Champagneforeveryone
isn't it a bit like putting tomato in a fruit salad?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 22/08/2021 20:08

I was asked by our pharmacist if I was actually over 60. That was cheering.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/08/2021 20:30

Disgrace Yay!
I am at the state where I could be almost everybody's gran in the projects I am working in.

Champagneforeveryone · 22/08/2021 21:13

prok, I believe it's the same principle as carrot cake. National Trust type properties often have beetroot cake and other such affectations in their cafes and I believe they were a bit "en vogue" at one point.

nydj, erm, it may have said delicious and moist

MissConductUS · 22/08/2021 21:50

ZZ, the power is still on here. The winds have been less than forecast and the heaviest rain is still to come. We're supposed to get 3-4 inches overnight. I am hopeful the power will stay on but the roads may be flooded tomorrow. It has been a tough week.

When do you take your DD to college? I recall one year taking DS to college and we saw one family arrive in a moving van. Grin Watching him or her try to move in would have been interesting.

The pharmacist who did my flu jab asked for my Medicare card. I'm not old enough to qualify for Medicare. Sad

I made blueberry bread and had a lie-down. I still have blueberries from our trip to the farm a few weeks ago. We're Zooming shortly with DS (if he remembers), DD, and MIL.

We are at first hotel, nice journey down, traffic was OK and took us 3 hours, had a lovely meal with the kids and ds is starting to speak a bit again 😀 and smiling a lot. Feels very adult to have our own room and kids in different hotel room, first time we have had completely separate rooms but nice for us and the kids. Dd has been dressing ds. Food was nice. Swimming slots were taken today so will go tomorrow after breakfast. Then move on to Devon. Weather is good. Dh is very happy to be away and have our own room. Ds took 3 fleece fluffy jumpers with him to cuddle on way down, I told him I had bought him 4 more so he can be head to toe on way back and got a big grin.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/08/2021 22:03

ds is starting to speak a bit again That's good!!

Gingerwarthog · 22/08/2021 22:07

Champ - I have made courgette and chocolate cake (in an attempt to get kids to eat more veg by stealthGrin). It was a success and kids didn't suspect a thing....

mathanxiety · 23/08/2021 01:31

Spent an hour out on the deck this afternoon reading and watching the little hummingbirds flit about near the feeder. Then a locust landed in my hair.

Later I went to Aldi and a woman complimented my (still extremely messed up) hair.

I'm making a pasta bake for dinner. We are truly back to normal fare with a heavy thud after last night's delicious Italian beef sandwiches.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 23/08/2021 01:48

Its warm here. I find it stifling inside. I'm awake for the foreseeable to finish a report.

Silkiescatz · 23/08/2021 05:45

I woke up at 4.20am. Dh had turned the thermostat up to 23C, which I can confirm is boiling temperature under the covers if you are of a certain age and female, now it's back at 20C and much better. I booked breakfast for 9am and swimming for 11am. Dd said I booked the wrong time for breakfast and 8.30am would have been the optimal time as she is sure at 9am then will have run out of things. Dh said to me if I had booked it for 8.30am then 9am would have been the optimal time for dd. Dh is fast asleep.

HelenaJustina · 23/08/2021 07:08

@Silkiescatz enjoy the swim this morning, hope the rest of the journey goes smoothly.

I can report that I very much enjoyed having the house to myself for a whole 10hrs (for most of which I was asleep!) I am not enjoying the washing mountain which has ensued from both camping trips, especially as I’m due back in work today. I woke up spontaneously at 6.10am and have been for a run today will go well today will go well today will go well

Silkiescatz · 23/08/2021 08:11

Thanks Helena Glad you enjoyed your night alone and good luck for starting work again. Dh also enjoyed night alone and no howling cats and has been mainly asleep. In theory should just be 2 hours drive today.

Silkiescatz · 23/08/2021 08:14

Dh is still asleep so I am glad I booked 9am breakfast as he needs to rest. Though am sure if there are shortages dd will point out I should have booked 8.30am. 😆

Squirrel26 · 23/08/2021 09:35

Temporary traffic lights have popped up outside my house. Unfortunately I need to come out of a side road right in the middle of them, and I don't think you can see the light from there. Fucksake.

Silkiescatz · 23/08/2021 12:47

Breakfast was nice. Dh and I had a nice swim. Dd stayed to sleep and ds came but wouldn't swim then wouldn't get out of male changing rooms. Dh is with him, just hope can get him out by 2pm check out.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 23/08/2021 13:01

I finished my report. I'm heading out for a sandwich.

MissConductUS · 23/08/2021 14:27

Welcome, @MistySkiesAfterRain, and thanks for your report completion and lunch excursion news. We have very misty skies here today after the tropical storm.

We never lost power but there has been some local flooding. DS seems to have come through it okay as well.

I'm sure the cats are not happy that they have no human company at home now that DH and I are back at work.

Squirrel, why would they need temporary traffic lights? Did you get out okay?
