@HelenaJustinaelena
The last time I had the place to myself was 2006.

Gingerwarthog · 21/08/2021 20:15

Well I can't be doing with magical realism SJane but I have heard good things about The Nightingale...
Is Silkiecat going to the pet hotel? Will she have a shelf???
In other news, went for meal at local pub with Mum, Dad, DD and DH and had fantastic beef and ales pies (with chips). Smile

HildaTablet · 21/08/2021 20:22

Thanks for the neck commiserations Silkie and SJane. We're having a Thai takeaway so hopefully that will make things feel a bit better.

Matlock in the rain does sound a bit, erm, damp Sad

Silkiescatz · 21/08/2021 20:22

Silkiecat will have a shelf and old lady stairs up to it and a window and fresh fish served to her on china plates 3 times a day. She is going tomorrow. She has been very happy on her shelf today but did peer out to watch me cleaning. She was blinking so it was cat approved.

We are going to have a Mcdonalds. So tired now. Meal out sounds nice.

Silkiescatz · 21/08/2021 20:24

I love Thai takeaway, hope its lovely Hilda

MissConductUS · 21/08/2021 20:36

I have ended my lie down and had some chicken noodle soup for a late lunch. DH is hoovering and will wash the kitchen floor. I'm have a coffee, mostly to avoid a headache from caffeine withdrawal. I woke up this morning with a headache that mostly resolved after a cuppa, and I realized that I had no coffee yesterday.

The town just rang to let us know that there was a hurricane coming and that we might lose power for an extended period of time. Thank you, town. This happens often enough here that we have a petrol fueled generator that will power the essentials.

DS has found a safe place to park his car. I think I'm going to relax and watch some videos until dinner.

HelenaJustina, that sounds heavenly.

It's our old favourite and we always have the same thing, Silkie (chicken green curry, wok-fried beef in lemongrass and oyster sauce, mixed veg and rice) but it's a goodie!

Hope all goes well with the final countdown to departure.

Gingerwarthog · 21/08/2021 21:11

Miss please let us know how thdd we hurricane progresses.
Deeply relieved to hear that Silkiecat has fish and shelf.

Champagneforeveryone · 21/08/2021 22:01

Good luck with the hurricane miss Confused

sjanes49 on our recent canal boat holiday we stopped for water alongside another boat. As we were pulling away DS shouted "oh my God, DDog2!". The boat next to us had an identical dog on board (she was even shivering like DDog2!) We followed them on and off for a couple days and it was rather unnerving.

helena, enjoy the well deserved peace Smile

mathanxiety · 22/08/2021 05:11

DD's birthday passed uneventfully. I ended up making the tiramisu in the morning instead of Friday night as I was knackered after a long week at work. For dinner, DD decided on a local Italian specialty from a cash only restaurant located in a very mafiosa suburb. DS paid and picked it up, and we ate at home. We were going to eat on the deck but we had a downpour in the late afternoon and it was just too wet out there, plus the mosquitos are horrible right now.

Hoping you'll escape the worst of hurricane Henri, MissC.

Bon voyage to all the holidaymakers.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/08/2021 09:57

It is not raining, yet. Morose pidgeon and mate came to drink and snack on seeds and leaves from the balcony flowers.

The school fotographer has been for group / class fotos and more importantly for new pupils ID, which gives access to free public transport. Luckily DS went in with freshly washed hair and a decent t-shirt.

Silkiescatz · 22/08/2021 10:56

Thanks Hilda and that sounds a lovely meal.

Merci Maths and happy birthday to your daughter.

Thanks Ginger Silkiecat is now at the pet hotel and has moved from her shelf.

Don't think we will be leaving at 11.30am, but only a 3 hour journey and last admission to swimming is at 7pm so its fine. DD is just out of the shower.

MissConductUS · 22/08/2021 13:05

I'm feeling a bit better this morning, but still don't feel much like eating.

We've been downgraded to a tropical storm watch from a hurricane watch. The center of the storm will pass east of us. Boston is still under a hurricane watch. We're still going to get a lot of rain and winds gusting up to 50 mph, so we may still lose power.

I did some cleaning in DS's room this morning and found a few more things I may have to send him. It still feels really odd not to have him here.

It's not raining yet so I may run to the posh Italian supermarket for a few things. I'll probably skip church.

Thanks for giving me a place to moan. I appreciate the sympathy.

Cleaned the bathroom and watched a YouTube video on how to change bathroom spotlight bulbs. Seems fiddly. Having a coffee.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/08/2021 13:36

It started to rain. I put a large towel in front of the balcony door and kept the door open - the air is lovely - while I sit here doing my languages.
DH had to bring in more tomatoes, so we will have a large mixed salad and chicken for midday.

HildaTablet · 22/08/2021 14:08

You've had not just a double but a triple whammy, MissC - empty nest, nasty illness AND an impending hurricane. I think you're allowed a moan!

Guess what? It rained so torrentially here in the night that it woke me up, but at least it meant I went downstairs and rescued the veg box delivery from the front doorstep (it gets delivered overnight) before the cardboard collapsed into soggy mush.

It's now sunny Hmm

Silkiescatz · 22/08/2021 14:26

Still not left but hopeful for 3pm departure and forecast is traffic is fine so should still make in time for swimming.

Nydj · 22/08/2021 16:38

Oh @MissConductUS you are going through so much, do please vent away whenever you need to.

I am really impressed with your tomatoes, @Prokupatuscrakedatus - we have two tomatoes that are almost ready to eat and everyday, I can pick about 5-6 green beans from the garden so I save them up until there are enough for a meal. We are a bit greedy so it takes a few days to save up enough.

Champagneforeveryone · 22/08/2021 16:59

Our runner beans are bonkers this year nydj, I should send some in your direction.

Incidentally, if any of you are on the lookout for a marrow then I'm your girl. A neighbour gave me two little plants for the allotment which have morphed into the most enormous and sordidly shaped narrows I have ever seen. Every time I look at them I get a little bit flustered wondering what I'm going to do with the buggers (and how I get them home without looking utterly indecent) And of course, the longer I leave them the bigger they get Confused

MissConductUS · 22/08/2021 17:12

I've been to the posh Italian supermarket and bought some of their fabulous apple cider donuts, which we discussed recently. Uncle G's are the best of the best apple cider donuts.

On my way home I stopped at the drug store chemist and got some OTC medicine for some gastric symptoms that still linger from the virus and got my flu jab.

Champagne, I had to google marrow. You have zucchinis! Nothing to be ashamed of. Grin

The rain is picking up here. The peak won't be until tonight.

Nydj · 22/08/2021 17:15

@Champagneforeveryone, the runner beans would be most welcome and bulk up our meagre supplies pf green beans.
I remember from our allotment days how quickly the courgettes would morph into giants and my recommendation is to chop them up and put them in the compost bin 😁.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/08/2021 17:22

Google gave me 'bone marrow' - not that this cannot be tasty in soup -, but zuchini goes better with plants. Grin
We tried growing zuchini once, but with 3 Turkish supermarkets and a traditional food market (Wochenmark) within 2 minutes walking distance we gave up on the idea.

Sunbird24 · 22/08/2021 17:42

Zucchini is courgettes, marrows are way bigger!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/08/2021 17:50

Ohhh - Gemüsekürbis.

Sunbird24 · 22/08/2021 17:58

I think if you can hold two in one hand they’re courgettes/zucchini, but if you need both hands to hold one it’s a marrow!
My mum used to make lemon curd with the ones out of our garden, or cut them into rings and stuff them with savoury mince.
