Good luck silkie, may the Gods of fast and uninterrupted travel be on your side though they probably won't today!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/08/2021 16:47

Squirrel Are hi-vis men in attendance (even one)?

DoctorTwo · 23/08/2021 16:48

Today I needed to go to a place 18 miles away. Because I have no car atm I had to go by bus. Two buses to get there, two to get back, with an hour wait at the far end before my return bus. Public transport is shit in rural areas in the UK. Car should be fixed on Thursday.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 23/08/2021 18:22

The surgeon says my knee is ready for full strength training, so I went for a paddle at Cresswell. Devil's own job finding anywhere to park thoughbut.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/08/2021 19:14

Disgrace Great news about your knee!

A UK mate of my DD is preparing to take up his place at uni and DD is giving him instructions on what he needs - wisdom taken form years of MN threads. Grin

Squirrel26 · 23/08/2021 19:17

No! There was not even a single man in high vis to direct proceedings!
There is some kind of road-digging going on, so one side of the road is closed. I did get out because it's generally a very quiet street, but it's going to be difficult getting back in if someone happens to be going the other way, because then you have to reverse back out and round the corner, and the space for that is currently cluttered up by a load of cones.

The people opposite are having a delivery from John Lewis. Their massive lorry is not helping the traffic lights/ roadworks/ cones situation.

MissConductUS · 23/08/2021 20:32

Good to hear your knee is better, Disgrace.

Squirrel, the town is repaving roads in my area. Ours was done a few weeks ago, which is nice, but it closes a lot of intersections while they work.

I hear so much about John Lewis on MN I'm surprised that they haven't expanded to the US.

Sea swim with DD this afternoon. We are making good use of our wetsuits.
Swam for about 90 minutes in two sessions and were both shattered afterwards.
DH made spicy chicken for dinner.
This has been the Summer of Swim - gaff never done properly cold open water swimming but starting to consider it as an option.

Champagneforeveryone · 23/08/2021 21:53

DDogs and I were chased by a bull today (that I firmly believe shouldn't have been there) I followed the advice to drop the leads as the dogs are usually the main focus.

DDogs zoomed off under the fence and left me to it Hmm

Silkiescatz · 23/08/2021 21:54

Thankfully we got out by check out time when ds moved from male changing room to car, it seemed to be as he forgot to take pants, took an hour to sort that one as was in male changing rooms and dh is not used to ds problem solving (guess the problem) and ds was crying then dh was crying as ds was sad. Now we are on to next hotel and had a lovely meal at the restaurant and ds and dh seems much happier. Food seems to be much easier to keep ds happy.

Castle then sea kayaking tomorrow after English breakfast at 8.30am.

Nydj · 23/08/2021 22:56

@Silkiescatz, that sounds pretty stressful all round. I’m glad everyone is feeling happier now. I love the way you have so many fluffy things for your DS.

Champagneforeveryone · 24/08/2021 09:05

I've just made an amazing cup of tea, even by my standards.

I'm about to have potato waffles and posh ketchup for breakfast. DH and DS both consider this to be an unacceptable breakfast choice but they are both out, so while the cats away....Grin

Silkiescatz · 24/08/2021 09:57

Hash browns are very popular in our house. Both the kids had 3 with their breakfasts. I had a full English to, dh was trying to resist for the calories but he had half one in the end. We are supposed to be leaving for the castle and kayaking at 10am but dh is still asleep. The castle was free though so I will wake dh in an hour or so. Ds has been for a walk. Dd said her ideal holiday would be sleeping and eating, think its a teenage phase.

SJaneS49 · 24/08/2021 10:01

You go for it! If it makes you feel better, I had a Bakewell tart myself. Luckily DD not up so didn’t feel hypocritical about flying in the face of the ‘healthy eating’ lectures I’ve been delivering her way recently! Enjoy the canoeing @Silkiescatz and have an excellent day - certainly sounds more energetic so far than hours. DD still soundly asleep and DH managed to sneak one of the x-boxes into the luggage, he’s been up since 6 like some 14 year old, playing a new game.

Must have been an adrenaline filled few minutes @Champagneforeveryone! Perhaps DDogs do not have future careers as guard dogs though?! My DDog isn’t the brightest pixie in the forest and probably would have thought it was some game the bull wanted to play with her. I’m missing DDog a lot and am apparently smiling stupidly (DDs words) at all the dogs I see. She’d have had a lovely time up here getting very excited about sheep, shame she’s terrible with car journeys. DCat is I’m sure having a lovely time at home with my stepdaughter, just hope he doesn’t do any ‘revenge’ shits on our bed which he’s prone to doing while we’re away. Always nice to return too!

Managed to drag DH and DD on a long walk in the Peaks to a stone henge yesterday. We were having a nice afternoon sitting on a mound overlooking the henge, no people or cars, just blue skies, sheep and Dales, contemplating what our prog rock names would be and the prospective title of our henge themed concept album. Then some bloke turned up with a big stick (warlock
staff I assume), stood in the middle of the henge and performed some chanting, shouting and dancing ceremony. DH bundled DD & I off on the offchance blokey would be getting naked any minute. Managed to beat down my own impulse to shout out ‘You’re not a real wizard, Larry’ as I went past him. Even the sheep looked a bit perturbed!

I’ve also moved on to another Rebus @Gingerwarthog, the 2 book club books still un bought. I should really have gone back to book no 1 and started at the beginning but I’m reading ‘Rather be the devil’. I can’t remember which one you’re on?

SJaneS49 · 24/08/2021 10:03

‘Ours’ not ‘hours’! Another sense check failure before posting!

Gingerwarthog · 24/08/2021 18:06

SJane-** I'm now on Rebus - 'Saints of the shadow bible' and am properly obsessed.
Some Rebus books are currently 99p on Kindle.
I was born in Edinburgh and grew up near the city so it has a resonance for me. Lovely Edinburgh bleakness!

Gingerwarthog · 24/08/2021 18:13

That wizard bloke though....Confused
In other news -bought duvet set for spare room and spare towels and bathmat - nice duvet with plant pattern.
DH is going to sort out and tidy spare room while DD and I evening swim.
Washed Wartycat's favourite lambswool blankie and he is not amused....got a proper huff when I tried to cuddle him.Shock

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/08/2021 18:55

We will be feeding and cuddling NDN's cats for 2 weeks and feed morose pidgeon and mate, because that is what NDN have been doing. They named them - quite apptly - Erna and Erich. Smile

Rebus No 1 was on offer so I bought it.

IWanderedLonely · 24/08/2021 20:42

Was that Arbor Low SjaneS49 ?

Silkiescatz · 24/08/2021 21:05

Glad you are having a nice holiday SJane. We had a lovely time kayaking but 3 hours of it has worn me out, saw a seal, a steam train, a steam boat, boats for the regetta and stopped at a beach and toasted marshmallows. Had a meal in restaurant. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Tomorrow will just be swimming at hotel pool and a lazy day but will have breakfast and evening meal here in the restaurant. We got sent a video of our rabbit eating dandelions, he loves to eat.

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/08/2021 21:06

Took my 12 week old swimming for first time. Was a lovely 15 mins.

MissConductUS · 24/08/2021 21:13

Welcome, @Lemonsandlemonade, and thanks for sharing your baby swimming news. How did he or she enjoy it? Is this your first?

I've just had a cider donut as a late afternoon treat. It was delicious. DH says he'll make pizza for dinner tonight.

It's lovely to hear about everyone's holiday activities.

Yes it was! Like most ancient sites, little left now to see bar the base of the stones but quite perfect countryside and sense of solitude up there. And I guess while personally I have a huge amount of scepticism around anyone these days thinking they are a Druid, witch or whatever, it is rather nice that people still do celebrate our ancient gods on an ancient site as we witnessed yesterday (even if had nothing to do with real Druidic rites which have been completely lost in time and just some cobbled together woo woo made up by Victorian fantasists!).

We went to Edinburgh last month @Gingerwarthog. Great city (although was expecting slightly fewer English accents and a lot more Scottish!). Everytime the books are mentioning somewhere we went, I’m giving a mental ‘been there’!

MissConductUS · 24/08/2021 21:25

SJane, I learned a lot about the Druids and Roman era Britain by watching the Amazon Prime series Britannia. I'm really hoping to vist in person when we retire.
