What film do you want to watch, but daren’t because you know you will cry

I keep hearing good reviews about Haichi and I really want to watch it. But I also know I would probably spend most of the time sobbing my heart out, so I’ve avoided it.

The last animal lead film I think I watched was either Marley and Me or War Horse. Both left me in inconsolable tears Grin

I’m a wuss

@MichaelGovesBeard
Yes. Haven’t you heard of it. Maybe it’s only been released in the us. Probably not made it to the U.K. yet.

My girl.
“ weeping willow with your tears running down, why do you always weep and frown”
And....”he can’t see without his glasses”.

Also I thought this thread was films you haven’t watched because you worry about your response
Not films that make you sad, or films that make you feel weepy

TeanupFlutter · 07/08/2021 00:54

Permanent Record, Beaches, Steel Magnolias have me bawling. Les Mis I cry all the way through. Mamma Mia 2 oh I sobbed in the cinema. I haven't seen a lot of the others mentioned and don't intend to!

MrsFlinch · 07/08/2021 01:18

Theres three on my list at the moment,

Fault in our stars, Dh has been trying to get me to watch it for ages and both he and Dd keep ribbing me because I just can’t bring myself to actually do it, I have the book and can’t face reading that either!

Me before you, I have read the book and sobbed like a baby at that, so I’ve no chance with the film!

An Haichi, recommended to me by by mum. Had it on the planner for ages but ended up deleting it as it sat there for so long!

I have to be in the right headspace for a good weepy but haven’t been for a while. So I’ll keep them on my list for now!

Sophie's Choice - I will get secondary PTSD
The wheat field scene in Gladiator - when you realise what it signifies
Of Mice and Men
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
Romeo & Juliet (Franco Zeffirrelli - final scene in the crypt)

@HelplessProcrastinator
@Kpo58

I've seen Grave of the Fireflies once a very long time ago and I tried to watch it again, two attempts, both times I could barely get half way and went to bed in tears.

It does not get easier to watch a second time. I don't think I can again.

froufroulala · 07/08/2021 01:56

Gladiator.

It is. But it’s gone on to another route and that’s fine

A monster calls, I had no idea what it was about, my brother put it on a week after my mum had died, only 3 weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.

When realised what it was about I couldn't believe he had choose this film, maybe he thought it would help, it didn't.

Can't bring myself to watch it again but feel I need too as it was too close to home at the time.

I can’t watch anything to do with kids and the Holocaust. I’ve never watched Schindler’s list or Life is Beautiful.

catfunk · 07/08/2021 07:28

War films.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 07/08/2021 07:30

I don't particularly avoid any films that make me cry. I do avoid a lot that will make me feel sick, angry, depressed etc though!

robotcollision · 07/08/2021 07:56

@Milomonster

Manchester by the Sea
Oh yes. That was such a sad film. Beautiful and brilliant but very sad.
Bryonyshcmyony · 07/08/2021 08:11

The conversation they have years later is a masterclass of acting

Sometimes I watch that clip on YouTube just to torture myself

@froufroulala

Gladiator.
Love the film and love the ending. Even though he dies, seeing him float home to his wife and son is so beautiful. And the Hans Zimmer track that plays is just gorgeous.
Standrewsschool · 07/08/2021 12:12

Love Story - surprised no one has mentioned this (are you all too young?)

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 07/08/2021 13:28

@Mrsjayy

I didn't know jojo rabbit was sad, Dd wants me to watch it thought it was a comedy Shock
That’s the genius of it though, it is a comedy, which only serves to make the shockingly sad scenes even more hard hitting when they arrive. One scene in particular.
JovialNickname · 07/08/2021 14:12

@peruse

Room
@peruse Room is a brilliant film, and despite the subject matter it actually focuses very little on abuse, and more on the strength of the human character. It's actually quite an inspiring film. Of course I don't know your circumstances and what you might find upsetting, but strangely, and beautifully, it's not as dark as you might think from the description x

Forrest Gump

My nan bought me A Little Princess as a leaving hospital gift when I was about 7, thinking it was just like a barbie film. Nope. Cried so hard I projectile vomited across the room and had to go back to hospital Grin

Love that film, although it's not as sad as the book. The book doesn't have quite the same happy ending.
