What film do you want to watch, but daren’t because you know you will cry

I keep hearing good reviews about Haichi and I really want to watch it. But I also know I would probably spend most of the time sobbing my heart out, so I’ve avoided it.

The last animal lead film I think I watched was either Marley and Me or War Horse. Both left me in inconsolable tears Grin

I’m a wuss

A Monster Calls

The raw emotion is incredible but moves you to tears.

I’m going nowhere near that!

I read the book with my 11yo son and both of us broke down in heaving sobs.

LadyCatStark · 06/08/2021 15:19

Marley and Me because we’ve just got a lab puppy.

redheadwitch · 06/08/2021 15:21

Green Mile
Saving Private Ryan
Beaches
The Notebook

Mamette · 06/08/2021 15:24

The Sound of Music

Purely because the songs make me so nostalgic for (the good parts of) my childhood.

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2021 15:26

I had to put hachhi off and back on again I had proper sobs and snot going on I will never watch it again!

I watch green Mile and cry every time.

ActonSquirrel · 06/08/2021 15:37

That's a shame @NeedNewKnees

The acting is phenomenal. Just a 90 second example below. I will watch it again one day.

peaceanddove · 06/08/2021 15:45

Braveheat, the scene at the end when he's dying and he sees his dead wife in the crowd.

Bluebellbike · 06/08/2021 15:56

A Monster Calls. I love it but hate it at the same time. It took this film to help me, as a 56 year old woman, realise why I felt so guilty when my DH died 8 years previously. It helped me shed that guilt.

Sunstar16 · 06/08/2021 15:57

Marley and Me Sad

[/quote] Have you read it? The book is fantastic! Plot by Siobhan O’Dowd before she herself died of cancer, and written by Patrick Ness.

There was no blurb on the first edition so we bought it because we liked both authors and WOW we were blindsided by its power.

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 06/08/2021 16:02

Fried Green Tomatoes, Philadelphia, Stand by Me, Haichi.

I watched a documentary recently called The reason I jump and I found it really moving and cried in the cinema.

Hm2020 · 06/08/2021 16:03

Bambi Grin tried a few years ago and couldn’t get through it

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 06/08/2021 16:04

Oh, I've just realised a few pp have mentioned Beaches. That's another one that turns me into an emotional wreck

ActonSquirrel · 06/08/2021 16:04

@NeedNewKnees nope but I will now. It will be less shocking now as I know what's coming.

nancy75 · 06/08/2021 16:06

JoJo Rabbit - Dd & I went to the cinema to see it, I thought it was a comedy! There was a lot of ugly crying from both of us

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 06/08/2021 16:07

Oh and The Land Before Time when Little Foot's mother dies.

😥Flowers

I can't begin to imagine. I'm guessing the part where the boy acknowledged he didn't want her to go but at the same time wanted her suffering to end?

Derrymum123 · 06/08/2021 16:08

Angela's Ashes. Those poor babies dying one by one and the poverty. That poor woman's life was heartbreaking.

Schindler's List and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - for obvious reasons.

imadeitnice · 06/08/2021 16:08

I re watched The Impossible recently. Cried throughout, even 19 yr old DS cried several times.

Chocadoddledoo · 06/08/2021 16:24

A monster calls, it was filmed in the area I live, but the storyline is too close to home for me to watch it.

I’ve seen that several times. Amazingly enough, it doesn’t make me cry but it’s hard hitting film.

Grave of the fireflies

Grave of the fireflies
Omg. That's unwatchable
ExpressDelivery · 06/08/2021 16:32

I've never been able to bring myself to watch either Schindler's List or 12 Years a Slave. I know I should.

Glassbook · 06/08/2021 16:32

Song of the Sea. When the mother leaves her children. I cried explaining the story to someone.

There’s lots of films mentioned on here that I can’t watch since I’ve had children. My tolerance for sad things has gone down, imagining the loss the characters feel is too heartbreaking.
