What film do you want to watch, but daren’t because you know you will cry

I keep hearing good reviews about Haichi and I really want to watch it. But I also know I would probably spend most of the time sobbing my heart out, so I’ve avoided it.

The last animal lead film I think I watched was either Marley and Me or War Horse. Both left me in inconsolable tears Grin

I’m a wuss

Coco took me by surprise, I had to lock myself in the bathroom and have a proper sob.

That film about the tsunami with Ewan McGregor, only got to the hospital scene and couldn't watch anymore.

A lot of films already mentioned, Up, Boy in The Striped Pyjamas, Ghost, Beaches, Terms of Endearment, War Horse. I watched that at the theatre and had to stay behind to get myself together. I've definitely gotten worse as I've got older. I cry at anything these days.

I haven’t seen boy in the striped pyjamas (did read the book and it was haunting) so don’t think I can watch the film. Also Schindler’s List and The Impossible. I find films like these based on real life events too hard to watch.

Christinayangtwistedsister · 06/08/2021 16:36

One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2021 16:38

I was caught out by Soul on Disney+ it was such a lovely film that I had a proper cry at it 😢

Soubriquet · 06/08/2021 16:38

Last film I cried at was Raya and the last dragon

My dc were ConfusedHmm “this film is weird. I don’t get it. Why are you crying?” But at their age I didn’t expect them to fully understand the entire story line

Grave of the Fireflies. Managed most of the other Ghibli films but even thinking about this film’s story makes me cry. I really feel I should watch but just can’t.

yellowsofa · 06/08/2021 16:41

Just watched the preview of Hachi. Sobbing now.

I second Grave of the Fireflies. I just can't watch it again.

BikeRunSki · 06/08/2021 16:42

I loved this. It was so “real”. It started in the year I started secondary school in central London. In my teens I was an arm’s reach away from their world. I said this to DM once. She said “you may have seen this world from a distance Bike, but they were my friends”. She’s right, of course. She then told me 4 names - all men - of her friends who died of HIV. People I knew, I remembered from growing up. Very sobering. It was fascinating looking back at that time. I am astounded at how much attitudes have changed in my lifetime.

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2021 16:43

Aww yellowsofa

EsmesRedPetticoat · 06/08/2021 16:46

Schindler’s List.
Jeez I’m crying just reading this thread!

pinkhousesarebest · 06/08/2021 16:47

Most of these ( though didn’t have the balls for Sophie’s choice). The bit in Mama Mia where Meryl and her daughter duet in the church breaks my heart, and the end of Polar Express where they find the bell.

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2021 16:48

I will never watch a Dogs purpose i saw I trailer in the cinema then it was on channel a while back and turned it off.

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2021 16:48

Channel5*

Soubriquet · 06/08/2021 16:50

I love Mama Mia. It’s one of my favourite films

But now I had a dd, and everytime they sing “slipping through my fingers” I’m gone

I think there might be something wrong with me.
I was totally unmoved by Marley and me and by the time I got round to watching Sophie's choice I 'd heard so much about it, I was not emotional.
One flew over the cuckoo's nest though ....

2catsandhappy · 06/08/2021 17:07

Eight Below.
I bawled like a baby. It was loosely based on real events.

When he stops and looks back and the dog comes over the snow drift...then leads him to the injured dog OMG I cried and cried.

tootiredtobother · 06/08/2021 17:14

Bridges of Madison County. Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood, I could see my mother in Meryls character

Chunkymenrock · 06/08/2021 17:25

Oh goodness, definitely War Horse. Even the puppet stageshow I couldn't face!

DartmoorChef · 06/08/2021 17:28

Marley and me. Never watched it as I know I would be crying all the way through.

And much as I loved A Star is Born, I know I would sob through most of that if I watched it again.

Redannie118 · 06/08/2021 17:30

I will never watch
The boy in the striped pjamas
Jojo rabbit

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2021 17:34

I didn't know jojo rabbit was sad, Dd wants me to watch it thought it was a comedy Shock

sharonelizabeth · 06/08/2021 17:42

An Imitation of life, the bit at the end when Sarah Jane flings herself on her mothers coffin whilst sobbing “ mama I did love you” .

I’ve watched it twice, snotty crying both times. In the cinema I didn’t really notice anyone else coming out looking like they’d had a breakdown, so it could just be me!
