I keep hearing good reviews about Haichi and I really want to watch it. But I also know I would probably spend most of the time sobbing my heart out, so I’ve avoided it.

The last animal lead film I think I watched was either Marley and Me or War Horse. Both left me in inconsolable tears Grin

I’m a wuss

Philadelphia and Ghost

@ActonSquirrel
My DH was terminally Ill for a year. My DS was 11 when DH died. Both my DS and I felt the same and we both felt guilty. We wanted it all to be over, though we knew that meant he would be gone forever. My DH had convinced himself that he would recover but DS and I knew he wouldn't and just felt selfish. My DS and I haven't discussed it properly but he knew what A Monster Calls was about, and refused to see it. I saw it alone at the cinema. I will watch it again some day.

Beaches

Happylittlethoughts · 06/08/2021 19:24

So many I can't list .. but I had forgotten - Who Will Love my Children
Oh .my.god 😭😭😭😭😭😭

isthismylifenow · 06/08/2021 19:25

I enjoyed Jojo Rabbit.

I don't cry in movies, but Hatichiko, gawd I was a mess. I even watched it again thinking I wouldn't. But I did. I don't know why it has a slightly different name here.

That is making me cry now.
I'm so sorry 😞

@GingerFigs

Up
One of the most shameful moments in my life was going to see that with DC aged about 4 and 5. I could not control my sobbing and these little hands reached out to me in the dark, patting me and comforting me and offering me their sweets and grubby tissues. I felt so ashamed that my children were comforting me. Didn't bother them though Grin I guess they didn't get the full meaning of the opening sequence.
Mrsjayy · 06/08/2021 20:06

I’ve watched it twice, snotty crying both times. In the cinema I didn’t really notice anyone else coming out looking like they’d had a breakdown, so it could just be me!

Totally emosh Grin

Ginger1982 · 06/08/2021 20:18

There's a new film out with James Norton as a dying single father trying to find a new home for his little boy.

NOPE, NO WAY!!

imadeitnice · 06/08/2021 21:36

Forgot about Stepmom, Kramer V Kramer and Steel Magnolias. All three make me bawl

BikeRunSki · 06/08/2021 21:41

DH loves all the Toy Story films , has then all on dvd, but won’t watch 3, because it made him cry in the cinema.

BikeRunSki · 06/08/2021 21:42

Awakenings

Phyllis321 · 06/08/2021 21:47

Shadowlands.
Inside Out (Bing Bong! Sad)

Linnet · 06/08/2021 22:04

Schindler’s list, Philadelphia, Beaches, Up.

I used to watch beaches quite a lot when I was younger but I can’t watch it now.

I went to see Schindler’s list with my English class from school, Great an afternoon off school we thought. My friends and I sat together and I was the only one who had tissues in my bag and had to pass them along the row to everyone. Brilliant movie, but so harrowing and I haven’t been able to watch it again.

Same thing happened with Philadelphia, ended up at the movies with three friends, the same ones, and again I was the only one with tissues passing them along.

Up, no just no. One of my friends has never seen it as everyone told her how sad it was and she refuses to watch it, or let her daughter see it.

ineedaholidaynow · 06/08/2021 22:35

@Linnet I don't think I could ever watch Schindler's List again. Sobbed watching it in the cinema.

Monkeybusinesss · 06/08/2021 22:52

Weirdly I can watch most things. But I don’t think o could handle 7 years a slave

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/08/2021 23:31

One that hasn't been mentioned that the oldies amongst us may remember: Old Yeller

ActonSquirrel · 06/08/2021 23:47

I don't know why but Schindler's List I didn't really find that bad.

The Pianist on the other hand...I couldn't watch that again.

ActonSquirrel · 06/08/2021 23:55

Having said that I watched lots of war films and holocaust films in my youth and older. Interested in that era of history. I'd seen such films before schindlers list.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 06/08/2021 23:58

The lovely bones reduces me to a sobbing mess

I,Daniel Blake is such a true film of what it's like for so many people I know fighting against one of the worst organisations in this country.
I should never have watched it.

I cried from the beginning and for about an hour after. Mainly with sheer disbelief but I could never watch it again Confused

workworkworkugh · 07/08/2021 00:17

About Time.
Had the house to myself one day and thought I was about to watch a lovely rom com...ended up crying my eyes out and thinking about it for days afterwards.

Also Beaches and there's many others in this thread that I refuse to watch just because I know I'll be a mess.

Graphista · 07/08/2021 00:21

Loads!

I love a good tearjerker but I'm not in the right place personally for them for some time now plus some could be seriously triggering for me so I have to judge when/if to watch

So I haven't yet seen

Schindler's list
War horse
Room
Coco
The father
I, Daniel Blake - just WAY too close to home for me
A monster calls
12 years a slave

That film about the tsunami with Ewan McGregor, only got to the hospital scene and couldn't watch anymore.

The impossible

Dd and I made the mistake of seeing that at the cinema and both of us sobbing, snotty messes at the end coming out!

Haven't seen the new star is born yet either, I've seen the Judy garland and barbra Streisand versions preferred Streisand and that left me a mess so not been brave enough to try the new one yet. But also partly if it compares badly i'll be disappointed?

About time is an utterly beautiful film but so moving

Nat6999 · 07/08/2021 00:23

PS I love you
The Railway Children, the bit where Bobby sees her dad at the railway station gets me every time.
The Jazz singer

SerenShine · 07/08/2021 00:23

I can't watch anything about animals because I bawl like a baby.

Charlotte's Web was traumatic, Big Fish is another one. Absolutely love it but watched it not long after my dad died 😢.

Truly Madly Deeply is another one.... the sun ain't gonna shine anymore...

MichaelGovesBeard · 07/08/2021 00:27

Is that the prequel to twelve years a slave? Grin
