What’s the worst thing you’ve forgotten to take on holiday?

There’s always something I forget! Our car is all packed for the off tomorrow but it feels like I’ve forgotten something.

A sheet sleeping bag to a hot holiday, staying with someone I didn't know well.
I unfolded what I had packed, thinking it was the sleeping bag, only to find it was a pillowcase.

Most things at some point.

One holiday we stopped off overnight en route. Managed to leave virtually all the toiletries there.

Then when we arrived I’d forgotten the key I’d been posted to get in to the accommodation. Fortunately they had a hidden key which I was talked through locating.

Tweezers - getting dressed in b&b to go to a wedding, spotted long dark hair between breast. Was wearing a v neck vest. Just ignored the hair and hoped no one noticed.

My partner and I regularly go on a sport camp abroad. As he is part of the coaching team he had a lot of kit out there in storage. But he always forgot what he had in storage an ended up taking duplicates of things and then forgetting certain things because he thought it was in the storage. Finally I wrote a list of all that was there and put it in his case so when he packed he knew what he needed to take. As a result the next time his case was extremely streamline. Then we arrived and the storage facility had been inundated with mice!! Everything was chewed and peed or pooed on. So an emergency trip to the supermarket and decathlon was needed to stock up on pants, socks and sportswear..

This was my parents forgetting rather than me. One memorable camping trip they managed to forget the tent pegs, the sleeping bags for the adults and towels. I've grown up into the sort of adult who makes multiple lists which get double checked. Can't think why...

Knickers on the way to the Lake District. Had to stop an Asda and get some.

redpontipine · 29/07/2021 20:47

Centre Parcs for Halloween - The kids coats 😭

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/07/2021 20:47

Common sense, when I turned up a day late for a flight, twice, same airport a few years apart, and not my home airport either, I was in Bali both times.
I blame Bali.

blissfulllife · 29/07/2021 20:47

Makeup bag. I was younger and vain. Couldn't care less nowadays but back then I was upset lol.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/07/2021 20:48

My orthopaedic, shaped pillow. Neck ache for 2 weeks.

SilenceOfThePrams · 29/07/2021 20:49

Anti convulsant medication for my child. Chargers for feed pump, ventilator, and wheelchair.

That wasn’t a great start to the holiday.

Londontown12 · 29/07/2021 20:50

The keys to the car box holding all our luggage !!! We managed to get into it but what a pain x

HumphreysCorner · 29/07/2021 20:51

A white skirt 🤣

Echobelly · 29/07/2021 20:51

I forgot any socks for myself 2 years ago - had to find the one large late opening supermarket that fortunately had some!

Regularly forget towels if camping - we have a few sets bought on trips in emergency.

Echobelly · 29/07/2021 20:52

Oh yeah, forgot kids coats for what turned out to be wettest camping trip ever - trip to Decathlon sorted that out though.

Siennabear · 29/07/2021 20:52

One time left our kitchen windows open (front of house). Felt very fresh when we got home.

One time forgot my sons socks. Had to wash them out every day. Annoying!

Siennabear · 29/07/2021 20:53

@Hairobsessed123 🤣

Sewaccidentprone · 29/07/2021 20:54

Dh bought wrong type of gas canister for camping stove. Realized when setting up to cook tea.

Knickers when going to wedding.

Also pants and t-shirt in overnight bag for ds1 when going to Spain on ferry (2 overnights).

Waterproof jacket for me camping in Wales. It rained loads.

I could go on……

Rogue1001 · 29/07/2021 20:55

Once our clothes (brought DD's, forgot ours)

Once the tent. Don't ask.
I was in disgrace for a looooong time with that one Blush

JassyRadlett · 29/07/2021 20:56

Contact lenses AND glasses.

Thankfully it was in the UK so I was able to get an emergency supply.

xyzandabc · 29/07/2021 20:58

My whole suitcase. All cases were on the upstairs landing, my dad and DH packed up the taxi taking us to the airport. Arrived at Heathrow to find my case not there. Going to west coast Canada for 2 weeks. 1st stop on arrival was Walmart. Luckily it was summer, so shorts, t shirts, sandals and a swimming costume and I was good to go.

Forgot to take a coat for dd who was about 2.5 to Scotland in winter. She didn't need it in the car. Asda saved the day, the coat we got did her all the way through nursery so not too bad.

Same DD, we put her in the car after tea in her pyjamas to travel north wearing slippers as it was bedtime. Forgot any other shoes for her. Cheapest available shoes in Mothercare were wellies so that's what she wore for the whole weekend!

We did better for dc2 and dc3, think we learned with dd1!

BitchIAmFromChicago · 29/07/2021 20:58

DH actually forgot to pack his clothes up coming back from a holiday! He only realised when unpacking his half empty suitcase when we got home. Thankfully we were staying at a friend’s holiday cottage so it was sorted fairly quickly…but not until they went a couple of weeks later.

TroysMammy · 29/07/2021 20:58

Forgot to put my sunglasses in my bag. Was holidaying in Spain. I now make a tick list even if going somewhere just for a night.

2bazookas · 29/07/2021 20:59

Matches.

We took 4 kids to an incredibly remote caravan on a glorious lonely beach 30 miles from the nearest shop. We chose it for total peace and isolation. So you bet we took all the food etc we'd need for a week.

Cooking and hot water was by gas; and so was the lighting. Forgot matches, and there were none there. ....

Sorry Scarby9 but that made me Grin, I'm just picturing you looking at the pillowcase thinking wtf, how the hell am I going to get into that.
WhatHaveIFound · 29/07/2021 21:02

I forgot my glasses. We'd driven 2 hours to stay in an airport hotel for a very early flight, then had to drive home and back again. Couldn't risk going away with just contact lenses as we were going for 3 weeks off the beaten track.
