There’s always something I forget! Our car is all packed for the off tomorrow but it feels like I’ve forgotten something.

Went to Denmark for May Half term. Dh left his winter coat on the bed at home. Only shop had a coat for 150 quid. Could have afforded it but DH decided to be a martyr and freeze his tits off round Lego land in a jumper.

HugeBowlofChips · 29/07/2021 21:44

The entire suitcase, left in the hall. Arrived at destination 5 hours away and had to turn around.

underneaththeash · 29/07/2021 21:45

DH has forgotten so many things, shoes, a coat, swimmers, shorts etc…he now gets clothes out and then I check, add to them and pack!
He’s 6’5” and takes a size 14 shoe, so it’s not as if we can just walk into a shop and buy stuff.

Redsquirrel5 · 29/07/2021 21:46

Not me but I remember my mum telling me that friends of theirs packed up the car, roof rack packed and then after about 30 miles the mum turned to check on the baby ( child 5) and a after a quick turn around drove home.
They had left the baby in the carrycot on the table. He was fast asleep when they got back home. They were mortified.

DD once left a backpack full of toys including a precious and irreplaceable jellycat bunny on the platform at Grantham train station. Luckily after posting on here about it a wonderful mumsnetter went to the station, collected it and posted it to us. Bless her, she wouldn’t even let me pay her for the postage

JackyinaTracky · 29/07/2021 21:51

My insulin. Left it in the car at Heathrow.
I knew before I boarded the flight but was on a big work trip and couldn’t face telling my boss what I’d done (in my defence I was 21, first job and stupid, I could have died!) called my mum and got her to courier me a spare lot on next day delivery. Still ended up in hospital on return as I think the flight probably froze it ( it was all wrapped up in insulation and it was a 45 minute flight)
Honestly I don’t know what I was thinking!

Fanofcrisps · 29/07/2021 21:52

Glasses. Remembered contact lens stuff but couldn't watch tv or read once I had taken my lenses out.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 29/07/2021 21:53

I did deal with a claim back in the last century which still makes me laugh
It was when the Renault Espace had first been launched. This chap had pulled over half way on a 6 hour journey cos his kid had been sick.
Whilst he was being mopped up he decided to reorganise the packing as was dead pleased that it all fitted back in so well.
When he got to their holiday an unpacked he spotted his error. He had removed one the back seats (a total novelty at the time) and had left it in the lay by.........it was never seen again. I assume it was bolted down in the back of a builders van somewhereGrin

While on the way back from a holiday I managed to forget to pick up one of my bags off the x ray conveyor belt. By the time I realised it was too late and I wasn’t able to go back. Airports also have no way for you have such things couriered to you - I was told the only way to get it was to go back to the airport another day (airport was in France and I was now in Uk). Amazingly, a friend who was coming on a cycling holiday ride 50 miles out of his way to collect it for me!

LesLavandes · 29/07/2021 21:54

Some whoppers

Once forgot passport.

Another trip - landed in France, got to passport control with 2 young children and realised I left my bag with passports, money, tickets on plane.

And another - went to Kenya for 3 weeks and forgot my anti-depressants. I must have been a joy to holiday with

couchparsnip · 29/07/2021 21:56

We once forgot the travel cot for DD when she was about 14-15.months old. We were in Normandy in a cottage in a little seaside town. it was Saturday night so nowhere was open that late or on Sunday either!
She came in with us for a couple of nights until we bought one on the Monday.
It was one of those holidays where nothing goes right too. Halfway through the holiday I put my keys on top of the car and then used DHs keys to drive off - smashed them to bits on the road Blush.
Then on the way back home I did the same thing with the sat nav and broke it - meaning we had to navigate through France to Belgium with just a map - like in the old days - nightmare!! I blame lack of sleep.

drumandthebass · 29/07/2021 21:57

We went camping for the weekend and forgot the tent poles. DH made a 2 hour round trip to go back home and get them

Mumvschildren · 29/07/2021 22:00

The suitcase full of my clothes
I’d remembered everyone else-just forgot mine
I had to wear the most awful trackie bottoms for a week and rinse my knickers in the sink daily

Sillysuzie · 29/07/2021 22:01

Daughters wheelchair.
Realised at the airport 🤦🏻‍♀️
Had to hire a Sen buggy in Spain. Cost a fortune but they didn't have a small enough wheelchair to hire.
She didn't use it constantly but needed it for anything more than 50 meters or so, and far less distance in hot weather......
Still was a great holiday but I'll never live that down. How we managed carrying her at 6yo and all the cases I don't know 🤣

Bouledeneige · 29/07/2021 22:04

My wallet. My bag was left in the hall. But it was only a weekend away. He paid for everything.

Hm2020 · 29/07/2021 22:04

I once picked up the wrong suitcase In the air port on my way back and didn’t open it for a week it was a very distinctive suitcase with butterflies on didn’t think there would be two on the same flight Blush

Seeleyboo · 29/07/2021 22:08

I left my husband to load the packed cases into his car while i sorted last minute shopping. I got back and immediately hopped into his car. We arrived at out destination. The only case which he didn't put in the car was mine. No clothes. No underwear. No make up. No nothing.

GuiltyPleasure · 29/07/2021 22:08

First time I trusted my youngish teenager DC to do their own packing for a hotel holiday abroad. DS forgot to pack any swimwear. DD didn't pack any shoes apart from the grotty trainers she was wearing to travel in. We travelled late on a Saturday, nothing was open on a Sunday. DS ended up wearing DH's swim shorts with the drawstring as tight as possible, they were still way too big. DD wore the smelly trainers till we found a shop open for sandals & sliders on the Monday. I learnt never to trust teenagers to do anything & to live with the sartorial consequences Smile

Sniv · 29/07/2021 22:09

The first time we booked a pitch with an electric hook up, it didn't occur to us that we would be expected to provide any sort of cable or connector bar a multiplug adaptor on a comically small cable. The campsite owners lent us one, but nor before giving me a look that made me feel very, very small.

Once we turned up at a camp site, got the tent out of the bag ...or half the tent, a which point we remembered that on the last camping holiday we were unequal to the struggle of getting it back in its stupidly-too-small bag, and had shoved the rest in a binbag. Which was at home. Luckily a friend had miraculously brought a spare tent with them. Now we make sure the tent goes back in its bag by hook or by crook.

Leftbutcameback · 29/07/2021 22:09

On our way to the airport for two weeks in the Caribbean, my OH realised he’d forgotten his trunks. Nothing at Heathrow that wasn’t silly money. Thankful for a Decathlon on the island!

starfishmummy · 29/07/2021 22:11

Not so much forgotten stuff. Just my new dh not packing enough clothes for our honeymoon. Discovered this in the airport hotel the night before flying out for almost 3 weeks hotel and cruise. Luckily he had packed his formal wear. Had to hit the airport shops. Then on arrival at our destination he realised he had no shoes for going to the pool. Luckily the Hotel had a shop!!

He still didn't really have enough so I started as I meant to go on and told him there was a launderette on the ship!

Clovacloud · 29/07/2021 22:14

To shut the boot door on a boot full of luggage. Lovely passing builder made me just as we joined the M11 Blush

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 29/07/2021 22:15

Contact lenses! I wear disposables and forgot to take any for the rest of week. I had to buy some solution and carefully wash and reuse them. Luckily I found a second pair in my makeup bag.

Toys and books for DC. He had a couple of bits in the car but he didn’t have his favourite nighttime book and we had to grab some stuff for him to do at The Works.

Paracetamol. We were in Spain and you can’t just buy it anywhere. Pharmacies offered ibuprofen but I was pregnant and had really bad pelvic pains. I had to avoid long walks.

Clovacloud · 29/07/2021 22:15

Mammyloveswine · 29/07/2021 22:15

Spare contact lenses... Ripped one on day 1 of my honeymoon...
