There’s always something I forget! Our car is all packed for the off tomorrow but it feels like I’ve forgotten something.

Holiday in NY before digital cameras, took camera out to photo the sights, had forgotten film.

Child’s inhaler. Absolutely kicked myself. Fortunately 111 and 24h Boots saved the day. It is now one of the first things I pack.

Also got to destination once to discover child had got in the car without putting their shoes on (?!) so did overnight trip in their slippers, including at the wedding we were going to.

OhGiveUp · 29/07/2021 20:20

My clothes.
My husband was packing the car while I sorted the kids out.
It wasn't until we got to check in that I realised we were a suitcase short. There was no time to go home for it, so I ended up with a cheap bikini and 4 cheap outfits for the entire two week holiday.
Returned home to find my suitcase looking lonely outside the back door with a dead potted plant for company.

OHs suit and my dress for a family wedding left hanging from the picture rail in our bedroom

Shoes for then 4yo DD. We had an early morning flight to Sweden in December from an airport 4 hours away. Put her in the car, in her sleep suit to drive down overnight. Forgot to take any shoes for her. She ended up with a beautiful pair of very expensive Swedish boots, having been carried piggy-back through the airports at both ends and into a taxi.

First camping trip to France with baby, aged 10 months, forgot the travel cot. Nightmare.

ShadowInVain · 29/07/2021 20:23

Family next to us rocked up to their tent pitch after us as we were sat on the camping chairs having a bbq. Get everything out of the car ready to go. As they went to unfurl their tent, it became apparent it was completely mould ridden and unusable. Needless to say they packed up and trudged home.

Reminded me of a childhood experience - my dad packed an ancient double airbed for my sister and me to sleep on when staying at a relative's house - it hadn't been used for about 10 years and was stored in the garage - when he came to unpack it, it was full of holes from moths or mice or something. My sister and I had to sleep on sofa and chair cushions.

Charger for ipad/phone. We had to drive 60 miles to buy one so we didn't and managed without. It was great.

StandardLampski · 29/07/2021 20:25

Husband forgot to pack his underwear for a trip to Budapest and ended up washing his one pair and wearing my Tesco plain shorts alternate days. We tried to buy him some in a supermarket but they only had male G strings which he declined.

DuesToTheDirt · 29/07/2021 20:25

Hayfever tablets - didn't forget them, my suitcase got delayed. I was in a real state till I got the tablets. (I was at a conference and didn't have free time to go checking out pharmacies).

Family camping holiday - again, not forgetting exactly...DH put everything ready in the hall, 4 sleeping bags, 4 mats, etc. DD, who was about 3, took one of the sleeping bags away to play with and no one noticed till we arrived at the campsite with only 3 sleeping bags.

Naggety · 29/07/2021 20:26
  • all my shoes except the flip flops I was wearing
  • to renew my kids' id cards - they were out of date but luckily nobody noticed (including me).
Letsnotargue · 29/07/2021 20:27

Imodium. First Aid kit was all packed and ready to go, including Imodium. I’ve never needed it on holiday before but figure it’s something that you want to have to hand when you need it.

Both OH and I get struck down with the runs the day before we have to fly home. Go to the First Aid kit “oh I used them at home and must have forgotten to put them back. That’s not like me.”

Trouble is, it really bloody is like him. How we made it through the flight I have no idea. That was the last time we managed a holiday before Covid. When we next go the First Aid kit will be triple checked, and Sod’s law says we won’t need any of it.

DH forgot the bracket to attach the satnav to the windscreen. Not the end of the world, however he decided to make do by forcing/wedging it into place and shattered the windscreen of the hire car. A very costly mistake!

ShellieEllie · 29/07/2021 20:28

My prescription sunglasses and sun hat. Fortunately the first opticians I walked into in Athens were able to help. They just pulled open a drawer full of sunnies fitted with reading prescription lenses.

MsFogi · 29/07/2021 20:28

Bottoms - totally forgot to bring any trousers/skirts/anything to cover my bottom half (only had what I travelled in!)

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/07/2021 20:33

Knickers! Completely forgot to pack any when we were going to a wedding in the Czech Republic. Went hunting the first morning in Prague - I’ve never been so glad to see an M&S in my life!

Antibiotics

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 29/07/2021 20:39

My HRT. Had break through bleeding. Was not great.

Jayneisagirlsname · 29/07/2021 20:40

DH forgot his insulin going to Majorca. Realised at the airport when it was too late to go back.

He had enough on him for 2 days so we went and bought insulin.

The health system was really efficient but it was an expensive mistake!

We've never yet told his Mum Grin

Mrsjayy · 29/07/2021 20:40

I forgot my painkillers I bought some OTC ones from Walmart my god they blew my head off Shock

topcat2014 · 29/07/2021 20:41

Forgot my wallet on honeymoon..

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/07/2021 20:42

Well I once went a day early, that was fun.

All my daughters underwear, it was a long long drive to a shop that sold any.

FawnFrenchieMum · 29/07/2021 20:43

The pump for an air tent! Travelled for another 6 hours before we realised, one hour from our destination!
Thankfully someone on the site has the same brand of tent and hadn’t gone off for the day!
