Why do teens choose to boil alive?🥵

My teen is in her room,

Black out blind down, window closed, normal blind down. She’s under the covers in a hoodie.

‘It’s not that hot in here’😬

I couldn’t stay in it…

Our house is cooler with windows open but curtains and blinds closed during the day. We generally start opening up at about 5.30 or 6ish.

Gingernaut · 19/07/2021 16:57

It's been common to see teens and young adults in hoodies and padded anoraks - all with their hoods up around here.

I do feel like going up to one of them and asking of they're warm enough.

I did that with DS4 and then offered him a hat and scarf. he was game🤣🤣

I have also just passed a teenage lad wearing shorts (!!!!) but also those slider pool shoe things and SOCKS.

What's THAT all about??

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/07/2021 18:32

Ds has been slobbish round in socks and sliders all day.

That has been a thing for a few years now. Preferably the socks have to be long and pulled right up. Teenagers are weird.

Boysnme · 19/07/2021 19:34

You’ve just described my DS. I pick my battles and leave him to it with clothes!

WildRosie · 19/07/2021 20:01

As many have said, they're just being weird ironic buggers for the hell of it. And to be seen and noticed etc. I once saw an older boy, probably about 19 years old, whinging to his chums, 'oh, you would not believe how fucking cold I am.' Nor did I; the attention-seeking dickhead was wearing a long, black woolly coat and had one of those ridiculous grey woolly hats that was half hanging off the back of his head. I could cheerfully have flattened him with the nearest cricket bat. The weather was much as today's.

WildRosie · 19/07/2021 20:05

I should add that I am aware some people have personal or physical issues which means they feel a need to be wrapped up and snug - degrees of autism ? But I don't believe for one second the hero in my story had that excuse. He was just being a knob.

It's called fashun

DS (14) out today with his friends - in a BLACK HOODIE. And when he comes home later he'll be complaining of headaches, and feeling ill. Wonder why.

Crazysheep · 20/07/2021 13:37

I have threatened to hide DS's hoodie collection. Sweat dripping off him but he won't take it off.

Mumofmanymorethanmost · 20/07/2021 17:40

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

so my 14yo is in a t-shirt, shorts and a fucking fluffy full length dressing gown. I asked him why. he said because it has pockets🤣🤣🤣

I can't fault the "it has pockets" defense. it's a classic

My son is exactly the same-black down coat all the time because all his stuff is in his pockets. My eyes drift to his empty rucksack….,,
ALongHardWinter · 20/07/2021 17:54

Under the covers in a hoodie? Omg. Shock

waitingpatientlyforspring · 20/07/2021 17:56

My 13 year old has wore a hoodie out all week - we are on holiday going to the beach most days and apart from this morning its been boiling every day. He just says he isn't hot 🤷🏽‍♀️

mummy2CnB · 20/07/2021 18:20

I had to check I hadn't typed this and forgot as I too have one of these psychopaths!.

Mumofmanymorethanmost · 20/07/2021 18:24

@3Britnee

Mans not hot innit.
Literally laughing out loud
Mum2b43 · 20/07/2021 18:40

My nearly 14 year old has been in darkened room all day in trackie bottoms and fleece gown. It’s so hot in there and it stinks to high hell.
When it was snowing he refused to wear a coat over his blazer while walking to 3 miles to school. He came home blue at one point claiming it wasn’t that cold.

MyriadeOfThings · 20/07/2021 18:46

Well it’s not just ds then!,

Short and teeshirt in the winter when everyone would wear a coat.
But thick tricky bottom, jumper etc.. at the mo ‘because it’s a bit cool you know’
Other dc keeps telling him he is crazy 😜

DanceIndiaDance · 20/07/2021 18:58

I personally keep my blinds down and windows closed. It's much cooler for the nighttime then.

My DS 14, has also just left the house in a t-shirt, joggers, trainers and a thick winter puffer jacket. Asked him why on earth he's wearing it "need a coat innit"

That clears that up then! Hmm

GameSetMatch · 20/07/2021 19:08

When I was a skinny teen I never got hot I was always freezing, now I’m older and overweight I boil a alive! Kids just got feel temperature the same as us....

Hertsgirl10 · 20/07/2021 19:15

My 15 year old son wore a T-shirt jeans and hoodie today and I keep saying take the hoody off and put on shorts he wouldn’t, I actually checked his arms for self harming 💆🏼‍♀️ He went to bed with this outfit on, I’m sure they just like being weird, I dunno but the curtains closed and windows too stressed me out when gaming.

Bleachmycloths · 20/07/2021 19:26

Teenagers are bonkers. They grow out of it 😊

Busybee5000 · 20/07/2021 19:35

@DonLewis

Then they don't wear coats in the winter! They're just contrary twats.
Exactly this!!
August1980 · 20/07/2021 23:32

Guilty:(. I am still wearing my winter coat.. it’s actually my dog walking one. I just like it because it has lots of pockets for my keys, phone, sanitizer, purse, poo bags, mask and treats!

Also, I go bra-less on my morning dog walk at 5.45am - it preserves my modesty just a bit!
I have now swapped my beloved coat for a more weather appropriate one so I won’t be offending anyone with my attire tomorrow 👍
