Why do teens choose to boil alive?🥵

My teen is in her room,

Black out blind down, window closed, normal blind down. She’s under the covers in a hoodie.

‘It’s not that hot in here’😬

I couldn’t stay in it…

Sounds sensible. Window closed and blackout blind down best thing to do. Why would you open both to let more heat in? I doubt I'll open the black out blind in the bedroom at all this week

DanceForeverUnderTheLights · 19/07/2021 13:55

I have one of these. Yesterday, he had his full length, fleece lined dressed gown on with the hood up, whilst I was in shorts and a vest in front of the fan 😂 I've seen him go to school on a snowy day in just a short sleeved shirt and blazer, shouting, 'No, I don't need a coat, it's not that cold.' Contrary bastards indeed!

RubyFakeLips · 19/07/2021 13:55

I’m impressed, all of mine seem to be allergic to clothes, I think they have the ‘lad’ gene unfortunately.

Have been lounging around in their boxers for days because it would be too hot to wear actual shorts. Suggestions of wearing a shirt are ‘mad’.They’re like this in winter too.

Unfortunately I know they will be the office arseholes cranking up the air con while female colleagues freeze

FreezerBird · 19/07/2021 14:00

DS has admitted defeat today and is in a (long-sleeved) t shirt and shorts. Yesterday he was wearing shorts and a fleecy hoodie.

I persuaded him to take his coat off around mid-June and have no hope that it will be back on until mid-winter. Contrary indeed.

3Britnee · 19/07/2021 14:09

Mans not hot innit.

Boood · 19/07/2021 14:11

Not just teenagers, I see loads of people out and about wearing clothes I’d be incredibly uncomfortable in given the weather. I do wonder what the crossover is with people who say they hate the heat, because there’s nothing worse than being stuck in completely the wrong clothes for the temperature.

Sweettea1 · 19/07/2021 14:18

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

so my 14yo is in a t-shirt, shorts and a fucking fluffy full length dressing gown. I asked him why. he said because it has pockets🤣🤣🤣

I can't fault the "it has pockets" defense. it's a classic

Am the same with my dressing gown sweating to death this morning but still had my dressing gown on untill I showered 🙃
BusterGonad · 19/07/2021 14:20

I don't think it's rocket science, 99% of the time I expect its to do with body issues and wearing what makes them feel comfortable. All through secondary school I refused to wear the school sweat shirt (made me look fat) and wore a cardigan, then when I had an eating disorder I wore the same jeans everyday and got extremely stressed if my 'usual' clothes weren't available.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 19/07/2021 14:21

@3Britnee

Mans not hot innit.
🤣🤣🤣
Passthecake30 · 19/07/2021 14:22

Because they stay inside, in the dark/shade, staring at screens and have no concept that it’s summer outside (or maybe just mine??!)

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 19/07/2021 14:28

How can it be body issues though if it's just wearing inappropriate clothing all the time? Mine is in shorts and t-shirt in the depths of winter when we're all in long sleeves, jeans, cardies and socks, and then now when it's 30° he'll come down in long thick joggers and and long-sleeved top! It makes no sense at all!

Maryann1975 · 19/07/2021 14:30

Dd is 15. Yesterday she got dressed in to jeans and a hoodie, with a tshirt underneath. The only place we were going was in the garden with the paddling pool. She then complained she couldn’t put her feet in as her jeans would get wet so I said to put some shorts on. She couldn’t do that because they were upstairs. I figure at 15, she is old enough to work out that if she is hot, she needs to remove a layer/put on cooler clothes.

Any of those who choose to where I live must be staying indoors, as those who have ventured out are wearing so little I am imagining what my mum would think if I had done so at their age!!

pinatastick · 19/07/2021 14:33

My 12 year old has been isolating so in his room doing school work nearly all day. His room is so hot even with the blinds closed and fan on... every day he puts a hoodie or jumper on 🤦‍♀️ Won't wear a coat in the rain, happy to wear just a t shirt out when it's freezing cold...

vegas888 · 19/07/2021 14:33

@DonLewis

Then they don't wear coats in the winter! They're just contrary twats.
😂😂😂
gogohm · 19/07/2021 14:37

Dd is sitting with a cardigan, in the next room I'm fanning myself with the junk mail, go figure

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/07/2021 14:39

27 degrees Ds came home in his black down coat

Grin

So she surfaced to go for a walk in a t shirt, she’s now gone back into the furnace with hoodie on and is back under the covers!

Meanwhile the sun relentlessly beats down at 29 degrees

No idea, but my 16-year-old is definitely trying.

On Sunday, my son came down in his Comfy hoodie - so a giant black thick hooded wearable blanket with long sleeves that comes down to his knees that he got back at New Year - and sat in it all day, with a T-shirt and shorts under it.

Which was about as baffling as Friday, when we'd all come in after an hour+ standing at his and DD's outdoor art exhibit launch event, everyone sits down melting and tired - he goes and gets his duvet, and curls up under it with his phone.

I've had the weird thing where my upper half is baking, but my lower half is cold or just wants the weight of something so I have a weighted blanket for that & I've tried asking to see if I can get him a less sweaty option, but he says he's cold or it's not that hot and everyone else is confused at him trying to slowly cook himself.

FlyingBattie · 19/07/2021 14:43

I used to wear thick jumpers in the summer.
Because I had body image issues and hated my developing body.
Maybe just cold, maybe just not.

Twistiesandshout · 19/07/2021 14:43

DD is the opposite! shorts and t shirt in all weathers if I let her! Refuses to wear skins even on snowy days at hockey training, bare legs for school.

properg · 19/07/2021 14:45

Mind you, a lot of adults aren't much better. I was walking this morning at about 8.30am in cropped leggings and a light t-shirt - it was very warm already - and I saw several people in jeans, jumpers, jackets, heavy shoes. Unbelievable!

Some of us don't feel the heat as much though.

properg · 19/07/2021 14:46

If you go to somewhere like Marrakech plenty of people will be wearing a puffer jacket in this weather 😆

TellySavalashairbrush · 19/07/2021 14:46

I can remember sitting on the beach aged about 14 at the height of summer wearing a long sleeved jumper and jeans, the rest of my family were in bathing suits- it was my way of being a rebel, but I was bloody boiling!

CoffeeWithCheese · 19/07/2021 14:47

I don't wear a coat when it's cold - I claim it's the Northern lass in me but in reality sleeves just piss me off... but this is seriously too bloody hot.
