Do you wear an apron when you cook?

I've never owned one and just saw some really nice ones on FB but what's actually the point of them? I never seem to end up with food on my clothes from cooking.

Yes. I’ve got a linen one with a crossover back.

FindingMeno · 18/07/2021 08:33

Having got fat on my linen dress yesterday I'm seriously considering it.
But I don't know if I'd actually wear it.

Bagelsandbrie · 18/07/2021 08:35

I think they’re cute but I never bother myself.

HoldingTheDoor · 18/07/2021 08:36

Always. Also when eating.

I'm dyspraxic and have nerve damage in my hands and arms and sometimes only have the use of one hand, so I can be rather messy. An apron is a must for me.

Twoforthree · 18/07/2021 08:36

Nah

ApolloandDaphne · 18/07/2021 08:36

I do. I am a messy cook and I hate splashing my clothes.

Laserbird16 · 18/07/2021 08:37

Yep, I make a massive mess

isthismylifenow · 18/07/2021 08:38

I don't but I should do whilst eating like a pp. Especially whilst wearing white....

I have a few given to me by my Nana. I keep them sentimental reasons rather than to use.

tootingbeclido · 18/07/2021 08:41

Yes. .I love aprons. .also I am very messy

TheProvincialLady · 18/07/2021 08:42

Yes I have several and always wear one whilst cooking or cleaning. I cook everything from scratch and often quite complicated things with many ingredients so the chances of getting something on my clothes is quite high. Also it gives me a kind of 1930s fishwife vibe which I quite like.

DinosaurDiana · 18/07/2021 08:43

Yes, and it’s still on while I eat my tea.

bonbonours · 18/07/2021 08:43

I have one but forget to ever put it on and usually spill stuff on my clothes

pastabest · 18/07/2021 08:48

I have one, I wear it if e.g I'm wearing black clothes and I'm baking, or light clothes and making something like a ragu, or cooking anything where fat or sauce might spit.

I hate having greasy hands and I'm terrible for wiping my hands on my jeans.

I've ruined so many good clothes over the years due to all of the above, I got a crossover back linen apron that takes seconds to put on and it has made a difference.

Ughmaybenot · 18/07/2021 08:50

I do, I must be a messy cook, and an even messier baker! It keeps my clothes clean and tidy plus I like wearing one for the nostalgia, reminds me of my mum and my nana when they baked when I was little.

lovablequalities · 18/07/2021 08:55

Always. I wear an apron pretty much all weekend. Cooking, baking, gardening, painting, eating. I love the handy pocket in the front. Some of mine are looking tatty now so if any of you have any recommendations I'd love to see them.

AllWashedOut · 18/07/2021 08:56

Always.

Gatehouse77 · 18/07/2021 08:57

Only if making pastry, etc. with lots of flour.
Occasionally, I remember to put one on if using the wok.

DH does but he's a mucky pup and, generally, I'm not.

RickJames · 18/07/2021 08:58

Yes, I get splashed with food and cleaning products all the time. I like the big pockets too.

Wallabyone · 18/07/2021 09:00

I do when I'm baking and sometimes when cooking. Like others, they remind me of my grandma who always wears one when baking.
I have a couple of Cath Kidston ones which are pretty heavy duty.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 18/07/2021 09:01

Can't remember the last time I cooked.

FreezerBird · 18/07/2021 09:01

I have loads and always wear them. I do a lot of baking and flour (and even more so icing sugar) gets everywhere.

They're also very good for wiping my hands if the doorbell/phone rings or I need to turn the page of a recipe book.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 18/07/2021 09:04

No. I should. I get food down myself constantly when cooking (and eating...) And I own about 5. But I never think to put one on.

lachy · 18/07/2021 09:04

I love mine. Wear it to cook and clean, as it saves me getting my clothes spoilt.

Dilbertian · 18/07/2021 09:08

Always. And when doing the washing up. I've ruined enough clothes with a splash of grease or tomato sauce!

But what I don't get is aprons made of thin cloth. What's the point? Any splash goes right through, especially if you lean forward and press against the worktop. I always wear a wipe-clean fabric-backed apron. My current one is wearing out, and I cannot find a replacement. They're all either absorbent cloth, or tacky. I may have to buy some tablecloth on a roll and make myself one.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 18/07/2021 09:11

It depends on what I am wearing and what I am cooking. Something unsplashy and in grotty clothes, no apron. Something messy (batter, frying in a frying pan) or if I'm in half decent clothes, apron.
