Do you wear an apron when you cook?

I've never owned one and just saw some really nice ones on FB but what's actually the point of them? I never seem to end up with food on my clothes from cooking.

If I'm cooking something spitty or splashy I wear one. A bibbed one. My mum always wore a waist one.

Fispi · 18/07/2021 09:27

Always when baking and sometimes when cooking. I should all the time though as I'm messy and it does save my clothes.

starfishmummy · 18/07/2021 09:27

Yes. I wear a linen or cotton apron for cooking, washing up etc.

I dont like the wipe clean aprons. They are not so comfortable to wear and if you splash water on them it just runs down the apron and lands on your skirt.

Ninkanink · 18/07/2021 09:31

Yes, always. I don’t want to ruin my clothes.

EverythingDelegated · 18/07/2021 09:35

Sometimes, it depends what I'm cooking, I need a new one, my current much loved one is stained now. I like the thicker cotton ones, I haven't seen a wipeable one for years but i didn't like them as too stiff and stuff runs down them.

I don't wear them for anything else though, they would get in the way for cleaning, gardening etc and they do make me feel a bit old fashioned which I'm not keen on.

ChicChaos · 18/07/2021 09:42

Yes, I wear them for cooking, baking and cleaning. Not for gardening, just gloves for gardening bloody cat crap in garden

Oldraver · 18/07/2021 09:44

Yes but only if I've got nice clothes on

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 18/07/2021 09:45

No but only becsuse I don’t own one. Skint so wouldn’t buy one atm but Im such a messy cook it would be so much better for me 😂

AbsolutelySure · 18/07/2021 09:46

justasking111 · 18/07/2021 09:48

Yes always with pockets. Phone in pocket to listen to programs

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/07/2021 09:50

Yes. Fat and sauce spatters from the pan onto my clothes could ruin them, and when baking the flour and icing sugar seem to get everywhere.

Mine's not a cute frilly one. It's a sensible wipe clean one!

kissmelittleass · 18/07/2021 09:52

No I don't own one my Nan always wore one they remind me of her when I see aprons. I should get one really I'm always annoyed when I get grease etc on good clothes.

Changechangychange · 18/07/2021 09:57

Depends on what I’m cooking. Tomato sauce or anything that would drain if it splashed, yes. Normal cooking, no.

I wear one when I bake with DS because he sends flour everywhere, and I want him to wear one himself. I don’t when I bake by myself.

YanTanTethera123 · 18/07/2021 09:59

Yes, always. No more clothes ruined by grease splatters or stains.

justasking111 · 18/07/2021 10:12

Ruined two outfits leaning over the stupid big bath to clean it bleached out apron saves this too. Must have pockets in my case whenever hoovering can pickup Lego marble etc

I hadn't thought to wear one whilst cleaning, and I've lost two pairs of jeans to bleach stains!

pastabest · 18/07/2021 10:41

Mine is this one from Raine and Humble

It's a crossover back and I love it

I'm going to have to get a cloth apron with a pocket!
willowstar · 18/07/2021 10:45

Sometimes. mainly when frying and I am worried about oil spitting, or when making Ragu type sauces

crosshatching · 18/07/2021 10:51

Depends on what I'm making and wearing, baking and frying yes definitely. Mine is from Anthropologie, but I bought a friend's birthday pressie from The Radical Tea Towel company so you can safely stir things up in more ways than one!

Gazelda · 18/07/2021 10:51

Only on Christmas Day. I like the flourish of taking it off when everything is on the table, which signifies that my work for the day is done and everyone else can clear the table, fill the dishwasher etc.

TheQueef · 18/07/2021 10:55

I always wear a pinny or housecoat primarily for cat hairs but for the rest of the cooking/cleaning mess too.

I think the loss of pinny/apron is the cause of the rise in laundry. I can understand why you would need clean clothes every day if you don't have anything covering.
Might just be me though I'm especially scruffy.

Gwenhwyfar · 18/07/2021 10:57

How do you manage to never get food on your clothes? Never cook sauces? Tomato-based things are the worst for me.
I also wear an apron to do the dishes and sometimes for cleaning too.
