DP in hospital. Reassure me he’ll be ok.

DP had his appendix out on Sunday, home Monday and recovering well, posted a thread at the time which some people might have seen. This morning he woke me at 6 saying he didn’t feel good but he couldn’t explain how exactly. I thought he was just half asleep and painkillers were wearing off so I just cuddled him till he went back to sleep. Reading that back I’m aware of how stupid it sounds. When I woke up properly a bit later though he was sweaty and breathing funny. Now he’s in hospital and they’re saying it’s sepsis. I don’t understand how this has happened when he was recovering so well. He even went out and saw a mate yesterday. I’ve just been sat at home all day not knowing what to do with myself and waiting for news which hasn’t come. I don’t want to go to bed because he’s not there. Not sure I’ve even posted this in the right place I just wanted a bit of reassurance.

@icecreamgirl94, so glad to hear he's improving.. that's great news 😀

Just remember, when he's sleeping, his body is repairing itself and allowing him to recover and giving him respite from any pain, etc. Sleep is a good thing and can be very restorative 🙂

Assessment has gone really well and they’re pleased with his progress. Kidney function has also improved but he does have a pretty stubborn infection so he’s on antibiotics specifically to target that. The appendix wound is also healing really nicely and he says that’s less painful than the kidney pain now. I’ve not been able to see him today as he’s totally wiped out but I’ll definitely be able to tomorrow so I’m in the garden with DS at the moment and we’re making a get well card. Hopefully he should now be home soon! 🤞🏻
@harverina thank you so much, I really appreciate your support. Honestly I feel like the most hysterical dramatic person in the world right now! I still keep crying and I’m annoying myself.
@Myshitisreal thank you so so much.
@CliftonGreenYork thank you so much for sharing your experiences, I really appreciate that. That’s exactly the same as where DP is at now, he’s just exhausted! He’s also normally really fit and healthy, plays football, has a physical job, just the last person I’d expect to be this ill. I’m prepared for him to be on a long road to get back to his normal self but there’s lots of love waiting for him here. Thank you for your message.
@georgarina thank you so much for sharing your positive experience, and congratulations on your baby!
@Inthesameboat2 thank you so much. Yeah I’m sure sleep is absolutely the best thing for him right now.
Thank you everyone, hopefully he’ll be coming home soon.

So pleased he's improving day by day, you can spoil him rotten when he comes home!Grin

Maggiesfarm · 22/07/2021 17:44

Thanks for the excellent update, icecreamgirl. That is good news.

Frazzled2207 · 22/07/2021 17:48

really good update. I think a full recovery will take a while but hopefully not long until he's able to be at home.

Minfilia · 22/07/2021 17:54

I’m glad he’s on the mend, how awful for you, particularly when you can’t see him.

We went through the same with our DS15, he had a burst appendix and sepsis. He was readmitted to hospital and was very poorly for two weeks.

DS lost a lot of weight due to the strength of the drugs making him sick, and being NBM or unable to eat. It took a few weeks before he could eat more than a yogurt or toddler portion of food and he was 6’ and a muscly lad.

It took a further couple of weeks before he could walk upstairs. His recovery was around six months in total, he was absolutely exhausted. We had to convert our living room and hire a hospital bed for two months.

Two years on, he’s 100% his normal self, walks for miles, in the gym 4 times a week and eats like a sodding horse Grin

So he may be tired for a long while yet but he’ll get there. I hope you’re taking care of yourself, it’s so stressful Flowers

Fantastic update. Keeping everything crossed for you and for his speedy recovery x

icecreamgirl94 · 22/07/2021 20:55

@JackieQueen thank you, I fully intend to! 😁
@Maggiesfarm thank you so much for your support.
@Frazzled2207 thank you yes he definitely still has a long way to go but I just want him back home now. We can tackle the rest after that.
@Minfilia thank you so much for sharing your experience, I’m so sorry you went through that, it sounds horrible. Glad to hear your DS is fully recovered now though. DP also has hardly any appetite at the moment and he can usually eat us out of house and home! Thank you yes I’m doing my best to take care of myself, it’s been hard forcing myself to eat when I don’t feel like it and trying to keep things normal for DS but I have a lovely support network of my dad and step mum, sister and DP’s parents who have all been looking after me and DS. Thank you for your message.
@neonorchid thank you so much for all your support, I really appreciate it.

@merrymelody thank you so much, I really appreciate all the well wishes.
I can’t believe it’s been a week now. I’m so grateful that he’s improved so much in such a short time but in some ways it feels like it’s been years.

He came back home this afternoon 😭 When I went to see him and he told me I cried all over him. I’m such a state! I hoped he’d be home soon as he’s been improving so well but didn’t expect it this soon. He’s dosed up on antibiotics and painkillers and weak as anything so I know we have a long road ahead of us but he’s back with us where he belongs ❤️
Thank you so so much everyone for all your support through this. It’s been the worst week of my life but your amazing messages have really helped me through it.

Maggiesfarm · 23/07/2021 18:37

Whoopee! I am so pleased for you and him. That's a lovely photo.

Make sure he takes it very easy and comes into no contact with any germs. That's impossible of course, what I mean is that he keeps himself safe (Cv-19 etc).

You have been great, icecream, honestly. Now you can relax a bit.
