So I have rescued a kitten

I think it was dumped - it was with another kitten that was dead.

It’s small but it’s eyes are open and it’s able to walk around (quite confidently!) so I think maybe 5 weeks or so?

It’s black.

I’ve fed it mushed up food with kitten milk and it has food and water and a blanket and a cuddly toy in an old dog cage.

Also made up a litter tray from an old baking tray and put litter in it.

I will of course take it to the vet tomorrow but do I need to feed it in the middle of the night?

It’s currently trying to climb up the cage and it’s been playing with a cat toy so I think it’s ok in itself.

How lovely-and now you need a name!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/07/2021 10:21

Oh how lovely !!!

We had 4 kittens dumped on our steps when I was 7, neighbours had two and we kept two. They lived for 17 years, they were gorgeous. Congratulations OP.

My Nan opened her front door many years ago, and was surprised to see a hair-dryer box on the step. It was packed with six newborn kittens!
She handreared the lot, and they all survived. She was determined!

Aw how lovely you are keeping it! Looks around 6/7 weeks to me. We got our 2 kittens at around the same age as their Mother started to reject them and it was safest to remove them, but luckily they were litter trained and just into solid rooms. Is it eating wet food? Don’t worry too much about water, I didn’t realise kittens get most their hydration from wet room Smile

Lovely black boy kitten! I am so glad you found him.

WineAcademy · 06/07/2021 11:18

Awwww congratulations on your new kitten op! He's gorgeous.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 06/07/2021 11:55

I'm kitten broody now. Although my girl is still very big on cuddles (but only on MY lap-she won't sit on anyone else). This is her patiently waiting for me to finish my knitting

This is lovely to hear. I have two rescue cats (recent change) and one of them is a little black girl. She's ex feral so very shy, but getting more confident by the day. Wishing you many happy cat years!

Smallbutnottinykitten · 06/07/2021 12:21

I only went to do some work 😭

(Proper litter box is on its way don’t worry)

Aw are you keeping him. We have a full black cat. I've never been interested in black cats but dd chose her. She's 2 next week x

Smallbutnottinykitten · 06/07/2021 12:22

Yeah I think he’s staying. Obviously am going to have to speak severely to him about scattering his litter everywhere 😂😂😂

Beautiful 😻 I’ve had 2 rescue black cats, sadly black cats are least likely to be picked which is very sad.

So glad you’ve fallen in love and sounds like you’ll offer it a wonderful home. Excited for updates and the name!

Like that will make a difference to the mess he makes with his litter Grin
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/07/2021 13:43

Awwwwww What are you going to call him

Toddlerteaplease · 06/07/2021 22:53

Omg, how did such a tiny creature create so much mess?!!!!! It's adorable!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/07/2021 23:06

Have your kids met him yet.

Ellmau · 06/07/2021 23:37

His toy is almost as big as he is ;)

You see a litter tray, he sees a massive sandpit to have lots of fun playing in as well as his toilet.
Anystarinthesky · 07/07/2021 03:54

I am so happy you saved this wee kitten! X

Newcastleteacake · 07/07/2021 04:03

@Smallbutnottinykitten

And yes. It’s staying.
You know you had no choice, right? You were adopted by the kitty the moment he fell asleep on you!

Please keep up updated on his progress... and his name!

TaraR2020 · 07/07/2021 04:12

What's his name??

1forAll74 · 07/07/2021 04:34

lovely little kitty.! it' has reminded me of a little black kitten that I found in my back garden many many years ago, it was almost midnight on a foggy November night. I had forgotten to shut my shed door, and went up the path, and saw this little kitten just lying on the lawn.

I brought it into the kitchen, and it was quite lively, and I think about 10 weeks old. I checked it over, gave him some food and drink, and then took him up into my spare bedroom, where my own black cat was sleeping on the bed there. As soon as I placed the kitten on the bed, next to my older female cat, the kitten snuggled up with her, and they both fell asleep together. The kitten I found was with me for about 18 years, before he died.

AngelDelightUk · 07/07/2021 04:40

He’s adorable! I bet your DC were so happy

FlamingHot · 07/07/2021 05:38

Just in case you need any further convincing (you obvs don't) here's a précis of the reasons shelters give for adopting a black cat:

  1. They have the highest rate of euthanasia
  2. They go with everything
  3. Holding a black cat is slimming
  4. Black cats were worshipped as Godesses by the ancient Egyptians
  5. They look like tiny panthers

HTH.

Smallbutnottinykitten · 07/07/2021 05:39

Awh to all the kitten stories.

(Adult) DC are over the moon.

He’s currently asleep on top of me.

He’s very originally Guinness.

Did try the litter tray with less litter to begin with but he peed in the dog’s bed in protest.
