Boiled eggs and soldiers

What’s your ideal ratio? I have 2 (large) eggs and 3 slices of (standard shop bought granary) toast. 2 slices isn’t quite enough, 3 slices is a couple of soldiers too many.
Just made it for ds, the eggs were slightly smaller than usual and he said 2 slices of toast was the perfect amount.
Dh just came into the kitchen and said 4 slices is the perfect amount Shock
How do you eat yours?

Two large eggs and two slices of toast, one in soldiers, one normal with marmite.

ApolloandDaphne · 26/06/2021 11:13

I have two large eggs and one slice of Hovis seeded lavishly buttered and sliced into soldiers. I find two slices a bit much. I am an overweight glutton so no competitive undereating here but I couldn't eat 3 or 4 slices of toast!

Winterfellismyhome · 26/06/2021 11:13

2 large eggs and 2 slices of white bread with marmite

Ewanispurple · 26/06/2021 11:18

2 large eggs, 3 toast, plenty of salt and pepper Smile

starbrightstarlight8888 · 26/06/2021 11:21

2 large eggs and 1 slice of cold toast with butter

massiveportion · 26/06/2021 11:22

One slice of toast per egg.

ApplesandBananas21 · 26/06/2021 11:23

A slice per egg

Ninkanink · 26/06/2021 11:23

2 large eggs, 2 slices of bread. But that does leave me a tiny bit short.

It’s better when we use DHs homemade bread - I get more soldiers out of that.

longtompot · 26/06/2021 11:24

2 large eggs, 1 slice toast which I let go cold and then butter and cut into soldiers.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/06/2021 11:24

2 eggs, 1 toast for breakfast. 2 toast if lunch/ tea.

furryous · 26/06/2021 11:29

All these posters having large eggs Sad they're really bad for hen welfare!

Ninkanink · 26/06/2021 11:32

Oh I don’t usually have large eggs, that was to keep in with OPs ratio.

We usually get quite small eggs from our local farm shop, and I would adjust the ratio of bread to suit.

I get large eggs when i need to bake cakes but I’m thinking there might actually be a weight ratio I could use instead...thank you for highlighting that!

riotlady · 26/06/2021 11:36

2 eggs and 2 bits of toast. I always have a couple of soldiers spare though- am i just more enthusiastic that average with my egg application?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 26/06/2021 11:37

Just waiting for someone to say they have half an egg and half a slice of toast and can't fathom why anyone would possibly need / want more Grin

TheChosenTwo · 26/06/2021 11:37

@furryous panic not, my eggs come from my own free ranging garden hens, happy as Larry, they’re usually large but today they’re not!

Why? I assumed hens laid a variety of sizes and they were divided up after they were collected by size? Happy to be educated.
TheChosenTwo · 26/06/2021 11:40

It seems I am in the minority with my 3 slices! I dip with 2 and then with the remaining piece of toast I scoop out the rest of the egg white and spread that on. But it still leaves me with a couple of excess soldiers!

OP posts:
Ninkanink · 26/06/2021 11:40

@TheChosenTwo so they can lay large eggs perfectly fine and naturally? I would feel a lot better knowing that. I buy my eggs carefully to hopefully ensure the hens are as happy as possible.

DotsandCo · 26/06/2021 11:40

1 slice of thick buttered granary per egg...although I don't 'soldier' my eggs usually as I like to mash my egg onto half a slice of toast and make a toast sandwich 🥰

Ninkanink · 26/06/2021 11:41

@TheChosenTwo I almost always have a third slice of toast afterwards, entirely separate from the eggs!

I low carb most of the time so when carbs find me they tend to really find me. Wink Grin

Theoldwoman · 26/06/2021 11:42

Two eggs, two pieces of buttered toast, both cut into soldiers.

Never heard of having marmite with eggs?

TheChosenTwo · 26/06/2021 11:44

@Ninkanink well they are laying large eggs and also medium ones! I mean, they’re probably not as large as shop bought large ones but compared to the tiny ones they were laying to begin with so they seem big now Grin

So I'm the only one who has 1 egg. I think that's because my parents only ever gave me one as a child, and I'm only just realising the the beauty of being an adult means I can have TWO eggs!

Anyhow, I have one egg and two pieces of toast. I do have toast left over at the end and just eat it with butter, but no problem with that.

Thanks everyone you've inspired me to pull the 'adult' card and eat multiple eggs from now on!

Mammymar · 26/06/2021 11:46

Two eggs and two slices of toast. Salt.

Oldraver · 26/06/2021 11:57

My DS lives duck eggs (and goose but only had that once)

He used to have Helen Brownings speedy sausages and use them to dip in the egg

Speedy sausages are very small
