DH and I are planning a trip to London over our anniversary and my birthday. We want to eat out somewhere special both these nights. Can you give me your best recommendations?? Money is not an issue. We want fabulous food but not over pretentious. Thanks!

Palentino - book a bar seat and watch the chefs cook - good fun and great food.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/06/2021 18:49

I will look that one up. Thanks.

Bob Bob Ricard for me every time.

If you like Indian then the Cinnamon Club is lovely. Italian and special, I would plump for Murano.
Rules is a bit of fun.
Min Jiang has fabulous views over Kensington gardens from high up plus Dim Sum to die for.

We had Murano booked for a trip last year but then we had lockdown and obviously couldn't go. It is still on our list.

I like Moro too - it's an oldie but a goodie and Mercato Metropolitano - so much fun - the food is cheap and good quality and the atmosphere is great. Grab an in famous cheese toastie at KAPPACASEIN on Stoney Street - share between two and take a chance to sample something else from Borough around the corner or pop into Brindisa for lunch. Watching this thread as I need recommendations for an 18th Birthday - adventurous, good quality and fun aka relaxed (bored with stuffy uptight dining).

We really enjoyed a meal at the Gherkin. We loved it so much that we went upstairs to the bar and had cocktails too.

tigerbreadandtea · 23/06/2021 19:09

Dishoom, murano, Oklava

FizzyPink · 23/06/2021 19:11

Steak - Hawksmoor or Goodmans
The Barbary if you can get a table. It’s very small!
Clos Maggiore for somewhere very romantic
The River Cafe
Fun but not exceptional food - The Ivy Asia, City Social, Park Chinois, Bob Bob Ricard, Hutong at the Shard
Much more casual but brilliant food - Hoppers, Dishoom, Tandoor Chop House, Kricket

Lookatthat · 23/06/2021 19:12

If you want fabulous food but not over pretentious, maybe try some of the Michelin star restaurants in East London like Da Terra, Behind, Casa Fofo, or if something more central is easier Ikoyi or Kol.

TooTiredToBeCreative · 23/06/2021 19:13

Another vote for Bob Bob Ricard! The Oxo is also lovely

FizzyPink · 23/06/2021 19:13

Luca in Farringdon is also fantastic if you like Italian

We went to the Oxo when we were down in October and it was very good.

Some great ideas here. We will be there for 5 nights so we will need some relaxed places too. I love Dishoom but have only been to the edinburgh one.

The Five Fields in Chelsea is absolutely fantastic. Definitely worth a look.

Newgirls · 23/06/2021 19:31

Noble Rot but tricky to get a table

spagbog5 · 23/06/2021 19:32

Mere - Monica Galetti's restaurant in Charlotte Street.
Absolutely gorgeous.

Sexy fish - loud, fun sushi etc

Davies and Brook at Claridges

Quaglinos for a great glamorous night.

Hairymoohead · 23/06/2021 19:33

Go to Brick Lane if your there on a Sunday - the food street food is fabulous (try the Eritrean) or treat yourself to a Salt beef beigel at the Beigel Bake on Brick Lane

musicmum75 · 23/06/2021 19:43

If money is no object then La Dame de Pic, Helene Darroze, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Core, Pied a Terre, Murano, Mere and Petrus are all amazing!

For something slightly lower key I also love Benares, Cinnamon Club, Aquavit, Yauatcha, Ella Canta, Locanda Locatelli and Theo Randall.

Enjoy! I love a fancy meal out!!

spagbog5 · 23/06/2021 19:44

Sushi samba
Murano
Cicchetti Covent Garden - Italian tapas

Are also great

spagbog5 · 23/06/2021 19:46

@musicmum75

I love all those on your list too
No wonder my waistline isn't what it was !

SarBear1980 · 23/06/2021 19:47

Sexy Fish very fun, Sushi Samba in Covent Garden later on has a chilled out DJ and nice vibe, Balthazar or Roka (I like Canary Wharf one) for brunch, Lahore Kebab House in E1. The Narrow Pub in Limehouse is very nice and chilled - lovely conservatory by the river. Flesh and Bun and basically any Bone Daddies place. There’s a Vietnamese place at the edge of China Town that I can’t remember the name that’s so good too.
