DH and I are planning a trip to London over our anniversary and my birthday. We want to eat out somewhere special both these nights. Can you give me your best recommendations?? Money is not an issue. We want fabulous food but not over pretentious. Thanks!

Lurra in Marylebone is fantastic
Noble rot.. The new one in soho was just outstanding.

Puppylucky · 23/06/2021 21:21

Oh and one more - The Sea The Sea just off Sloane Square - tiny and deceptively casual space (it's a fishmonger by day) but the most exquisite (and pricey!) fish based menu.

La dame du pic was amazing. Le gavroche is reliably great. Not sure if still open but restaurant story was really good. Have always had great food and service at Frenchie. Sabor and Bocca di Lupo also v good.

Jabbinell · 23/06/2021 21:26

La Gavroche
Alain Ducasse at the Dorch

ILoveToads · 23/06/2021 21:29

I love La Gavroche, fantastic food and such friendly and knowledgeable service.

I also really love Marcus at the Berkeley, we always go for the tasting menu and never had a bad course.

Chameleon, newly opened in garden outside church opp Great Portland St station. Delicious Israeli food and great cocktails. Cool vibe, especially at night.

Chilten Firehouse is a great night out, especially at the bar overlooking the kitchen.

La Chapelle - one of the Galvins and my favourite.

Quo Vadis. Unpretentious, elegant, wonderful.

The Good Egg

Duck and Waffle. It’s open 24 hours and has stunning views of the city and very large windows (I think it’s on the 40th floor or something).

We’ve done midnight (great for people watching but it was busy) but our absolute favourite was a 7am Sunday morning - because even when we’re away from the DC now they’ve totally cocked up our sleep patterns! We did lovely breakfast watching the city wake up, then grabbed the newspapers and went back to the hotel room for lazing around and a nap!

petalpower · 23/06/2021 21:53

Chez Bruce on Wandsworth Common
Boca di Lupo on Archer Street in Soho

crumpet · 23/06/2021 22:00

Lots of good suggestions. I’d add Tamarind if you like Indian

Ironmanrocks · 23/06/2021 22:01

Haven't been for a while but love pied a Terre and l'autre pied. Tasting menu is stunning.

Relaxed, we found an incredible place in Notting hill.....it was Persian and it was amazing but I can't remember what it was called...😃

LyndaMcLynda · 23/06/2021 22:03

The Sussex on Frith Street

Thecatsawinner · 23/06/2021 22:05

Kerridge’s is good. Also the original Ivy.

legoagogogo · 23/06/2021 22:06

Randall and Aubin in Soho. Relaxed atmosphere, cracking food, great setting. The food prep area is the old butchers shop counter (reported to have been Winston Churchill's favourite butchers shop). You used to have to just queue which was lovely in summer as you could have a drink in the pavement outside and peruse the menu but in a covid world I'm not sure what they do now

PurpleSunrise · 23/06/2021 22:07

If you eat steak - I love Knife in Clapham, best steak I’ve ever had, very low key but great service, great sides, they bring you complimentary mini Yorkshire puddings and gravy before main course (I was sold at this point Grin ) . Lots of photos here! www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186338-d10825060-Reviews-Knife_Restaurant-London_England.html

Great Sunday roasts too.
