DH and I are planning a trip to London over our anniversary and my birthday. We want to eat out somewhere special both these nights. Can you give me your best recommendations?? Money is not an issue. We want fabulous food but not over pretentious. Thanks!

@musicmum75 ahhhh you just reminded me how much I love Yautcha and need to book a table 😊

jeanne16 · 23/06/2021 19:50

Also suggest Le Coq d’argent.

twoofusburningmatches · 23/06/2021 19:52

Lots of great suggestions here. I also love Lyle’s, Benares, Hakkasan and any of the restaurants around Borough Market.

MargotEmin · 23/06/2021 19:52

Westerns Laundry if you're happy to pop up to Highbury

colouringindoors · 23/06/2021 19:52

pmk!

idontlikealdi · 23/06/2021 19:56

Oh goodness, don't want to sound like a year but most of these are all so done.

Coq D'argent and the ex conran stable done to death. Don't go to the city at the moment is fuller than dull, no atmosphere, even less than normal.

Bob Bob is fun, not they new city one.

Mere is fabulous, gymkhana also used to worth a go.

sarahb083 · 23/06/2021 19:56

Som Saa for excellent Thai

Rina66 · 23/06/2021 19:58

Harry's Bar in James Street is smart casual Italian with outside tables

The Ned when there's entertainment on

Zedels - casual or dressy but good food

Sketch was lovely, not sure it's stil a restaurant?

La Gavroche

Radio Rooftop for drinks

ApolloandDaphne · 23/06/2021 20:02

Brilliant list here. Thanks! I will look at all the suggestions over the next few days.

Kerridge’s at the Corinthia Hotel
Hakkasan
Heston’s Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental

The new (ish) Tom Aikens restaurant Muse is lovely. We went a few weeks ago and it's so small we were sat by the prep station and chatting to the chefs - and Tom himself!

We also like Pollen Street Social - had some great meals there. And Core, but it's impossible to get a table there.

@Hairymoohead

Palentino - book a bar seat and watch the chefs cook - good fun and great food.
Sorry I meant Palomar!
LivingLaVidaCovid · 23/06/2021 20:25

Depends what you want
Personally I think Sexy fish is dire... Confused
Murano was very blah
Dinner at Heston was fiiiine but I didn't like the decor....

Personally I'd go for
Pied a terre - total classic and impeccable Every. Single. Time.
Core (Clare smyth) - amazing atmosphere and food hard to get a table
Hide (above or below doesnt matter) everything by dabbous is amazing
Pollen street social - have had so many fun and tasty times here. Atherton is a pro.
five fields - worth it just for the art nevermind the food but you'll need to commited as its pretty far west.

Wineat5isfine · 23/06/2021 20:29

We stayed on the Sunborne Yacht last year for a mini break and the restaurant onboard is fabulous. “Lands End” - you can make a reservation to dine only - would highly recommend.

34 Mayfair - brunch menu is fantastic.

Chiltern firehouse - only had breakfast, but the main menu looked superb too.

Vertigo 42 - great to end the evening. Fabulous views, champagne and bar snacks.

Member589500 · 23/06/2021 20:29

Another vote for Sushi Samba. Just perfect and so relaxed and unstuffy.

youwouldthink · 23/06/2021 20:30

Roka Mayfair and Quaglinos! I miss London!!

southernerer · 23/06/2021 20:36

City Social - fabulous views, very dark moody romantic atmosphere. Food has been outstanding whenever we've dined there

KikiniBamalam · 23/06/2021 20:36

I had my wedding dinner at Clos Maggiore, it was beautiful.

Le Gavroche is a real treat. Can’t wait to go again.

Murano looks fab

Cinnamon Club

VodkaSlimline · 23/06/2021 20:49

Five Fields is not far west @LivingLaVidaCovid! It's in Zone 1, about 2 minutes from Sloane Square.

Where are you staying @ApolloandDaphne?

Squaffle · 23/06/2021 20:56

If you find yourself in South London I recommend Chez Bruce in Wandsworth, also the tasting menu at Trinity in Clapham Old Town, and if you like French food try Le Poule Au Pot in Pimlico: so delicious! Enjoy your trip.

Hairymoohead · 23/06/2021 20:59

@LivingLaVidaCovid hated Pollen Street Social - was expecting warm, casual and welcoming - got half arsed neglectful service, my idea of casual is not being ignored - nice bar and chairs though.

29ac · 23/06/2021 21:05

Depends where you are but would recommend the following:
Coal Office
Flor
Palomar
Bancone
Bocca di Lupo
Trinity
Kudu
Laughing Heart

Puppylucky · 23/06/2021 21:11

Oh I love the Laughing Hart! If you talking about East London then Brat and Cornerstone are also fantastic (fish focus) as is Pidgin

ApolloandDaphne · 23/06/2021 21:14

We haven't decided where we are going to stay. Somewhere central and nice! DH will get on to looking for accommodation. We would like an apartment rather than a hotel. DH knows London pretty well through his work plus DD1 used to live in Peckham and DD2 lives in Tooting.
