As title, what property can you get in your area on a budget of £400,000?

My gîte complexe, 4 gîtes, swimming pool, 0.5 acre garden

Womendohavevaginasnick · 22/06/2021 22:16

Not my area but my county.
You'd even have change for renovations.
I have a soft spot for crook. Love to drive that way. Beautiful views.

Average 3 bed terrace small nice enough garden

Mysterylovingboy · 22/06/2021 22:18

Small 2 bed flat on the attic floor of a large building (so very low ceilings, small windows, and 4-5 floors of stairs to climb)

Or larger 1 bed flat.

CormoranStrike · 22/06/2021 22:19

You’d get a house like this in a town near me

25 Craigallan Park, Bo'ness

carolinesbaby · 22/06/2021 22:19

A nice but not extravagant 3/4-bed detached with a driveway and a garden in a pleasant village with good schools.

Not a house I'd normally look at but I really love that. I think the utility room is dreamy!

MustardRose · 22/06/2021 22:23

3-bed semi.

Bit further away in a town, 3-bed detached, 4-bed semi, 3-bed bungalow in need of renovation.

A 25 room villa 10 minutes from the beach. photos.surfaceprivee.com/biens/22810870/0/610x350%5Ecc/1623428061

Just did search - one studio flat over a petrol station on busy road. 1 bedroom flat ground floor run down block. Both 375 A telephone kiosk in situ (25k). That’s it. Surprised was anything. Central London.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/06/2021 22:34
Slightly further out but within 10 miles

Thornhill Terrace, Thornhill, Sunderland

I went to school on that street!
This, in Trafford, a complete doer-upper www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/91080814#/
It looks a completely different house from the back!! When did everything get so expensive 🙈

SpringLoadedJizz · 22/06/2021 22:39

Rightmove is mostly 5-6 bedroom detached houses for that here. Probably with a chunk of change too but because we're Scotland it's offers over so hard to say how much change as I don't know how the market is right now.

There's also a 7 bed detached house in a town near us for under £300k.

Damnloginpopup · 22/06/2021 22:40

4x three bed terraces. I could retire on renting three out.

merryhouse · 22/06/2021 22:42

3, 4 or 5 bedrooms; lots of "stunning" family homes; a townhouse just up from the market place (not on Posh Road, though, they were 250k in 1998).

A shop and 7-bedroom house in one of the villages.

Nothing in my immediate area, but dropping just under 375, five minutes from me just by the church: detached 4-bedroom beautifully maintained character property (and I've just realised I'm acquainted with the current owner) with decent garden.

Frazzled2207 · 22/06/2021 22:45

Our house I think. A decent sized 1930s 4 bed semi in a nice leafy corner of a so-so suburb in greater Manchester.

MsSquiz · 22/06/2021 22:48

In my immediate local area (according to right move) offers over £380,000 would get me a plot of land of 0.3 acres to build on. And that's it!

merryhouse · 22/06/2021 22:49

Ooooh that house in Sale featured in a thread last week! OP was asking about the Edwardian mirrored firepiece. She didn't include the gas fire in her picture Grin - that does explain the anachronistic tiles.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 22/06/2021 22:53

@DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat

Two bedroom flat with a sea view Two bedroom bungalow on edge of farmland - but it’s semi derelict Three bedroom ex council house in the least desirable location
Sorry, I’m quoting myself to add the following: I hadn’t looked at just below the GBP threshold OP asked for, but having just done so, the weirdest thing. An absolutely beautiful, well decorated, period property - three bed, two bath, two reception, outbuilding office and nice size garden - is on for GBP375,000.00. I can’t fathom it. I know the building week because it’s opposite my DDs primary school. Literally across the road. It’s a semi rural school so on a quiet ish road - apart from school drop off and pick up obviously. I did wonder if that had meant the price was lower than expected, but the school is currently rated outstanding by OFSTED. I think I might move…………😂
Mammyloveswine · 22/06/2021 23:01

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal it's my dream home but my Geordie roots wouldn't let me live in Sunderland... 😜

Mammyloveswine · 22/06/2021 23:02

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal mind my bank manager would say no as my current house cost £95,000 Grin

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/06/2021 23:03

A one bed non ex council flat, but not a ‘stylish’ new build (however poky and with ludicrous service charges).
A 2 bed relatively spacious ex council flat.
Outer SW London.

SilverOtter · 22/06/2021 23:05

A 3 bed semi (Warwickshire).

Travis1 · 22/06/2021 23:09

Six bed detached villa complete with garden bar and sex pond 😬 plus £30k spare for a car and holiday
