How old were you when you first got a mortgage?

My DD is 22 and buying her first house. She was lucky to leave university and get a well paid job and really wants to get onto the property ladder. (We are assisting with a deposit however!)

Anyway it got me thinking - how old were you when you got your mortgage? I was 30 odd so 22 seems very young to me

Surprised at these answers. Everyone so young.

25 in 2005, 105% mortgage, no deposit, fees paid and they gave us about £1000 in cash! 😳

  1. Saved up all my student loans from 4 years at uni (worked to make money to live on) for a deposit. Got a PhD with a reasonable grant and bought a small flat.

No help from family.

MumofSpud · 18/06/2021 22:25

26 (bought with now DH)

Congratulations to your DD - My DS and his g/f bought 2 years ago when they were 21 - it can be done!

Iamtheweedonkey · 18/06/2021 22:25

22 in 1997

@flightofthecrow

44!
Ohh this gives me hope!!
AnneElliott · 18/06/2021 22:25

Should have added that it was late 90s and we had no parental help with the deposit. Although the bank told us we didn't need to give a 5% deposit as 2.5% would do!! Can't imagine that now!

It was in a game of Monopoly (I was the `Old Boot' !)

36, and worried about getting our 1st mortgage so late. But 49 now and it's nearly paid off so feel like we've caught up!

mummydoris2006 · 18/06/2021 22:33

I was 20 and our deposit was £150 on a 95% mortgage with cashback. That was October 2002

GalaxyGirl24 · 18/06/2021 22:34

25 with DH

Womendohavevaginasnick · 18/06/2021 22:39

I'll be lucky if I have my first mortgage at 50. It's annoying cause our mortgage payment would be half our rent if they would just lend to us. We have never missed rent in 10 years...... paying someone else's mortgage.....

squiddylama · 18/06/2021 22:39

Last year 22

ChicChaos · 18/06/2021 22:41

23, no help from parents, joint mortgage with DH.

redastherose · 18/06/2021 22:43

InFiveMins · 18/06/2021 22:43

25, in 2015.

These threads are usually pointless as someone will have signed for a mortgage aged 18 in 1980 whereas an 18 year old is unlikely to ever get a mortgage today Hmm

BoringBettie · 18/06/2021 22:48

24, 27 now and looking at another
