Do you let your kids wee in the garden...?

If your children are playing out in the garden and need a wee.... do you let them wee in the garden or insist they go indoors to the toilet?

Eh no! Go to the toilet.

Twickerhun · 13/06/2021 19:25

Toilet!

FionnulaTheCooler · 13/06/2021 19:26

I did when potty training, kept a potty in the garden so it was handy and just tipped it out and rinsed it under the outside tap, but since then no.

I make them go to the toilet, I used to have a potty outside when they were potty training to make it easier but I'd never let them just wee in the garden it takes a few seconds to run from the garden to the toilet

HotGlueGun · 13/06/2021 19:27

So the child in question is 6, almost 7 and male

See in the garden. Just not on herbs...

BakedTattie · 13/06/2021 19:28

Oh god did you see my 5 year old son peeing in the garden earlier? Couldn’t even stop him 😂

AzkabanPrison · 13/06/2021 19:28

DS is recently potty trained and has a thing for weeing the garden. I think it comes from when we have been out and done emergency wees at the side of the road/behind a tree/on the car tyres so now when he's outside he just whips his shorts down and wees before I can say anything to stop him!

SwanShaped · 13/06/2021 19:28

*wee obvs

HotGlueGun · 13/06/2021 19:28

I think it's gross and uncivilised but my husband insists on letting him do it

Wheresmycider · 13/06/2021 19:29

Nope. Toilet. Used to be able to see the neighbours kids peeing up against their shed from our back window and it always made me feel eugh!

purpleme12 · 13/06/2021 19:29

No why would I? The house is right there!

GintyMcGinty · 13/06/2021 19:30

No

Deadleaf29 · 13/06/2021 19:32

No, that’s absolutely grim. I occasionally let toddlers wee outside in a bush in an emergency if no toilets available (huge country park type places) but at that age? In a domestic garden ten feet from the toilet? Absolutely disgusting. My child would be in big trouble for that. It’s the same revolting laziness that means they start using shop doorways on their way home from a night out as teens…

Deadleaf29 · 13/06/2021 19:33

Does your husband do it too? Why else does he insist you let him??

WetWeekends · 13/06/2021 19:33

No, and the one time my 5 year old did I told him off. It’s rude, unhygienic, smells, is totally unnecessary and we have a downstairs toilet.

HotGlueGun · 13/06/2021 19:35

My husband is very "out doorsy" and thinks an alfresco wee is fine. Up in the hills where there's nowhere else to go - I agree - but in your own back garden, in full view of the neighbours, it's unreasonable and grim.

MamaRaisingBoys · 13/06/2021 19:36

The only time I let my boys pee behind a bush in the garden is when they’ve been playing in the paddling pool so are soaking wet. I don’t want them soaking the floors/toilet seat

HotGlueGun · 13/06/2021 19:36

To be fair, they had just been playing in the paddling pool but he would allow it regardless of that

DuesToTheDirt · 13/06/2021 19:36

Pretty unpleasant for the person who will be doing the weeding.

soooooooG · 13/06/2021 19:37

Do I want them to wee in the garden?
No
Do they?
Yes

But it's HUGE and inhabited by lots of animals so they're not the only ones.

LublinToDublin · 13/06/2021 19:38

I remember friends visiting and sitting in my garden with their children and one wanted a wee do his Dad said "It's OK you're outside you can wee in the border" I wasn't having that and directed him into the house to wee in the toilet!!

AlfieandAnnieRose · 13/06/2021 19:39

Yes I let my 5 year old 😄 better than having to clean around the toilet where he misses. We live where there’s no houses overlooking and I check where he’s weeing. Don’t see how it’s ‘rude’, he only does it at home sometimes and uses the toilet fine elsewhere.

Deadleaf29 · 13/06/2021 19:40

Where does he draw the line then with the alfresco thing? Front garden? School playground? In the middle of the pitch during 5 a side? What if they need a poo - does he have a little trowel in the garden too?!

HotGlueGun · 13/06/2021 19:41

@AlfieandAnnieRose if you had immediate neighbours who have a very clear view of your garden, would you still be ok with it?
