If your children are playing out in the garden and need a wee.... do you let them wee in the garden or insist they go indoors to the toilet?

No. I really dislike the way some males think it’s acceptable to piss wherever they like. There was no way I was allowing ds to grow up to be one of them.

Totally dependant on garden size. We have 2 acres so they can pee wherever without being seen. In a standard postage stamp sized housing estate garden - no way

It would still be a no from me.
I didn't want my boys thinking they just pee anywhere they wanted and not to hold on and go somewhere appropriate, especially at the ages mentioned even if it was in a large garden.

I wanted to re enforce good habits not create ones I had to correct later.
Of course when we were in the hills and later in in the mountains that was a completely different scenario.

Get him to do it on the compost heap! I've read men's wee is very good for helping with the composting process. I'd suggest it to my husband but I'm afraid he'd misunderstand me telling him to use it as a toilet and I'll find him sat on top of the compost bin reading a newspaper and .... Shock

No, they'd get told to go in to the toilet. Were they dragged up in a barn or what?

PattyPan · 14/06/2021 19:20

@AmIbeingTHATparent DP sometimes pees on our compost heap at the allotment but only because there are no facilities nearby (I just hold it). I can't say it seems to have helped much unfortunately! I actually just started reading a sustainability book that talks about compost toilets and you have to siphon off the wee for the other stuff to compost properly, apparently.

Definitely send them in to the toilet. I was on holiday with my uncle and my little cousins once and remember my 3 year old cousin standing on the front steps of the house, weeing with joyful abandon into the garden, not even discreetly into a bush. His 6 year old sister did the same but not from the steps. It made me sure I will never let my children do that!

We have a small suburban garden, but not overlooked. The only time anyone would wee in the garden (ususally DH) if if they were bursting and our only loo was occupied.
