Do you let your kids wee in the garden...?

If your children are playing out in the garden and need a wee.... do you let them wee in the garden or insist they go indoors to the toilet?

I wouldn't let the dc do this!

Dd2 has the occasional wee on long dog walks behind a bush. Never in the garden it wouldn't occur to me?

HotGlueGun · 13/06/2021 19:43

@Deadleaf29 yep... he does indeed have a trowel!!! But not for at home.... he goes on long runs in the fells and always gets "caught short" and so yep, he will dig a hole and do his business. So this is what I'm up against!!!

We also have a very, very large garden and it's a very long way back to the house, then through two corridors to get to the loo. We have a specific shrubbery they are allowed to use for emergency wees! I think I shall stop them when they get a 7/8 perhaps. All boys, incidentally, and adults are not allowed! In a small overlooked garden it would be rather grim.

@HotGlueGun no that would be different, I wouldn’t let him if there were neighbours who could see

Starlight39 · 13/06/2021 19:46

It doesn't bother me. Generally DS will go to the toilet unless DP is in the bathroom then he'll get shoes on and say "I'm going for a garden wee". He's 9. Our garden is quite long/overgrown though and nobody is carefully weeding flower beds. It might depend on the garden involved!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/06/2021 19:48

Absolutely not. We have a downstairs toilet off the kitchen so it's not much effort for him to come in and use it.

TheFairyCaravan · 13/06/2021 19:49

My kids are grown up now but when they were small they weren’t allowed to see in the garden, no. That’s just grim

Juanbablo · 13/06/2021 19:49

No, I don't. But I don't think they've ever tried to. If they did I would tell them to go inside to the toilet.

3JsMa · 13/06/2021 19:51

Mine go to toilet but I never insist.
Apparently, male urine is an excellent deterrent of the foxes, maybe that's the reason why your hubby doesn't mind.

HotGlueGun · 13/06/2021 19:52

@3JsMa ha.... that might get him to stop the outdoor weed as he loves foxes and nature!

Absolutely not - proper grim and the height of laziness

Mintjulia · 13/06/2021 19:54

One of the other mums let her ds wee in their garden. Unfortunately the little boy couldn't see the difference between the garden and the primary school playground.

It took a whole year to sort out during which they also learned to use a mop and disinfectant. Smile

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 13/06/2021 19:54

It was always inside on the toilet, but we've had a big massive burst of weeds - ivy, giant dandelions and stinging nettles so I've actually told my son to go out and pee on them in the hopes that it kills them after noticing the patch of grass my dog pees on is always yellow and dead lol. But generally i do find it quite uncivilised. But I'm allowing my son to do it as an experiment lol

NigellaSeed · 13/06/2021 19:56

Agree with you OP, grim. And feral. What's your DHs cut off age for when DS has to stop doing it? Or never??

Justwantanewname · 13/06/2021 20:00

Uncivilised I get, but why is weeding outside unhygienic? Wee is sterile

RightOnTheEdge · 13/06/2021 20:01

Mine just go inside, I don't think they would like to do it in the garden. We have very nosy neighbours who like to stare out of the windows at us as well.

The only time ds weed in the garden was when he was bursting and the bathroom was occupied. We only have one bathroom with the toilet in there.
Then he said he was going to go in the garden because he couldn't hold it. It was dark at the time.

HotGlueGun · 13/06/2021 20:02

@NigellaSeed I honestly don't know. My husband doesn't do this in town centres or anything like that. But gets cross when I challenge him about our son doing it in the garden (front and back). I've never caught him doing it but I'm pretty sure he has himself.

@HotGlueGun
So do I but have a dog that loves rolling in fox's poo Grin, not to mention fox urine which is quite strong

CandyCaneLane0 · 13/06/2021 20:03

Yeah I let my 5 year old do it when he's desperate and won't make it up to the loo in time

Worriesome · 13/06/2021 20:03

If the toilet is a few steps away then yes they should be using it. If you are outdoors like up in the hills then it’s different x

ShoesEverywhere · 13/06/2021 20:05

Yes but only in the compost heap. If we had citrus trees I'd let them wee against them too (for the fruit) but nowhere else.

Onceuponatime1818 · 13/06/2021 20:09

Defo wee in the garden, mine wee anywhere outside really!

maddiemookins16mum · 13/06/2021 20:14

There’s no need to piss in the garden.

scrivette · 13/06/2021 20:15

Tomato plants like wee apparently!

I don't encourage them but if they are in the paddling pool and soaking wet then I probably would and DD still has accidents so occasionally goes in the garden accidentally.

We often go for long walks in the countryside so they are used to alfresco wees.

Clairey844 · 13/06/2021 20:17

Wow, clearly I'm in the minority but I see no harm in a garden wee-usually it's only when she's in a swimming cosy or has nothing on and is in the paddling pool. If we were just playing in the garden on a normal day she'd go inside (of her own fruition) to the toilet/potty but if she's wet or naked she'll just squat and wee. Maybe we're ferrel uncouth humans but I really see no harm in it. She's only just 3 yet I don't think there would be any issue with her distinguishing between a garden wee when playing in the pool and taking a shit in the high street but maybe she'll shock me one day and I'll be back on here eating humble pie.
