Do you let your kids wee in the garden...?

If your children are playing out in the garden and need a wee.... do you let them wee in the garden or insist they go indoors to the toilet?

I think it's gross and uncivilised but my husband insists on letting him do it

How grim. So your son can grow up to be one of those men who piss in the street? Gross.

idontlikealdi · 13/06/2021 20:42

No t that age they can piss in a toilet.

LowlandLucky · 13/06/2021 20:43

I brought my children up, i didn't drag them up

See, I would have said toilet but we used to have awful trouble with cats taking a dump in our garden.
One day I had a hospital appointment and dh had to pick our five year old up from school. Well I accidentally left the key in door so they couldn’t get in Blush.
Playing in the garden ds needs a pee and there was no other choice but to go outside. We have not had a single cat poo since! Not one! I’m almost tempted to encourage him to see outside more often!

TolkiensFallow · 13/06/2021 20:44

We don’t allow it. I don’t see why it would be necessary to use the garden as a toilet. I know lots of others that think it’s fine thougg

LadyCatStark · 13/06/2021 20:46

No but our garden is not massive and it’s overlooked. We have 4 toilets and 3 people in our house so there’s really no need! The dog obviously wees in the garden though so I guess it’s not that different. The other day, I looked out of my living room window to see a child having a wee into the stream that goes along the side of my house. That was weird!

NameyNameyNameChangey · 13/06/2021 20:46

I think an outdoor wee when there is no other option is fine; but when you are within reach of a toilet it's gross and unnecessary.

FictionalCharacter · 13/06/2021 20:47

Toilet, in case they got the idea that peeing outdoors anywhere is OK (like men pissing in shop doorways like PPs pointed out). Unless it’s genuinely an emergency.

gracelessladyhottramp · 13/06/2021 20:48

Of course!!

mineofuselessinformation · 13/06/2021 20:48

I can only think that they see it (as in your DH) as a way of marking their territory....
Otherwise, there is no need for it at all.
It's just lazy, and that's besides the fact that it's rank.

LemonRoses · 13/06/2021 20:49

I can't get excited about anyone peeing in the garden. The dog does, and I can't see that human urine over some ground elder is a huge issue.

Summerfun54321 · 13/06/2021 20:50

I honestly couldn’t care less if my child weed in the garden. But I wouldn’t allow it or encourage it incase they did that in someone else’s garden and thought it was normal.

JewelGarden · 13/06/2021 20:56

@TheVolturi

Erm no, that sounds really scruffy to be honest, just go to the loo!
It's only scruffy if you have a small astroturf garden that you wash down with fabulosa

A nice big garden with plants and bedding, hedges and trees everywhere and the odd outdoor wee does no harm.

Dreamer2468 · 13/06/2021 20:57

Children no. Their Grandad wees in his garden though, supposedly it is good for Granny's compost heap Hmm

3LittleDucksQuack · 13/06/2021 20:58

Toilet. However sometimes we take a potty out for the 3 Yr old. Simply because the toilet is upstairs at opposite end of house. So if have to bring in toddler as can't leave in the garden unattended because of the pool. And by time I bring him in which inevitably causes meltdown. The 3 Yr old would be desperate. So it's just easier. And if they're in the pool. Saves drying off and traipsing upstairs.

vixeyann · 13/06/2021 20:58

No, it's scruffy whatever size/type of garden you have.

EversoDelighted · 13/06/2021 20:59

I used to let mine occasionally, he stopped by about age 4, has never done it anywhere that would cause a problem for anyone else and hasn't grown up into a piss-anywhere adult, total non issue.

MissCruellaDeVil · 13/06/2021 21:00

Toilet, how grim to do it outside.

cariadlet · 13/06/2021 21:02

I'm a teacher and once had to deal with a child who had been caught weeing on the school field. He genuinely didn't realise that was unacceptable because he had always been allowed to wee in his garden.

I think it's gross and always made dd go inside and use the toilet.

This was going to be my point....when children go to school they have to start learning to hold it and use the toilet so better to start to learn at home.....out in the wilds of nowhere, they yes ok but at home unless its a real emergency then no.
PortMerrionCentre · 13/06/2021 21:08

I went to a gig in a forest a couple of years ago. Now I know why there was a massive queue for the only porta loo on the way out, there must have been 30 people waiting.
I nipped into the trees & was on my way home 2 minutes later

Hallyup6 · 13/06/2021 21:09

Toilet ffs. I have no desire to be enjoying lunch in the garden surrounded by the aroma of stale piss. Teach the child some manners.

dogistoobigforthesofa · 13/06/2021 21:09

In our house, we only have one toilet and DH spends hours in there. It would be cruel to make DS wait, so he's alllowed to go very discreetly behind the house. Only sheep there to see him anyway! He knows it's only for emergency situations, though.

Janaih · 13/06/2021 21:10

Only on the rosebushes. Otherwise grim.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/06/2021 21:19

Yes, but only if they are wet from the paddling pool. Our garden isn’t overlooked and huge. So the house is miles away.
