Just remembered 999 with Michael Burke. Gave me a lifelong fear of swimming after seeing an episode where a girl's hit got caught in a fan in the pool!

Impulse 02 gassing everyone.

Snatch the dog everything especially bedding!

Swimming badges sewn onto costumes. Found a cossie in a charity shop for 20p with 1000mt sewn on it which deluded everyone in my Y6 swimming class - I couldn't swim 1000mt 😂

Anymore?

Oh yes I remember Big magazine, always use to have a magazine and quater of bom boms from the shop to go with it on a Saturday.

wizbit93 · 15/06/2021 19:07

@BiscoffAddict

I remember the girl getting her hair stuck in jacuzzi. Also the one where the javelin went through the boys neck.
The javelin one happened at my school (boy was a couple of years ahead of me). It was weird seeing our PE teacher on it Grin

@ApplyWithin I remember those Yo-Yo’s very well. I think you won it when you got the right bottle cap or something from the big named soft drinks?
Anyway, I spent weeks and weeks practicing those tricks- walk the dog, rock the baby, the elevator etc.
Thanks for the nostalgia Smile
@LadyJaye oh yes ! And standing on a rusty nail was always popular!
And why on earth was quicksand a thing ? I was absolutely terrified of the beach and any soggy looking sand for years, thinking I'd just get swallowed up!
I have an incredibly unhealthy fear of quicksand, given that I grew up in urban Glasgow with no beaches for about 20 miles. Grin

WHY were we all so scared of quicksand?

LadyCatStark · 15/06/2021 20:11

And the Groovy Chick when you out free Snatch! Mind you my sister has the Snatch bedding, I had Forever Friends.

Jeans so wide you soaked water up to your knees but so low cut they showed off your (diamanté of course) thong, with a studded belt and top that barely came past your boobs.

Exclamation “perfume”.

“Moshers” (emos) and “townies”. Going to rock night and moshing to punk rock.

Hair glitter and glitter eye shadow and even mascara… oh and hair mascara!

Waiting for the new Friends episode on a Friday night.

The 90s are back and DS is so jealous that I lived them! 😂

LadyCatStark · 15/06/2021 20:12

@LadyJaye I live in Morecambe Bay, the quicksand fear is real!

enjoyingscience · 15/06/2021 20:17

Sometimes, when things are going ok, I get a horrible feeling I’m in the first couple of minutes of 999 and everything is just about to go to shit.

Does anyone else remember the railway safety book Roald Dahl wrote? Scarred for life by that thing 😂

ButIWantedToBeYourValentine · 15/06/2021 20:30

Paws for thought . I had a stationery set 😂

I remember Big too!

I went for a walk a few years ago and there what looked like it could be a swampy bit on the pathway. I was not brave enough to find out I had visions of me being pulled under and but being able to get back up

Sheffieldcoolingtowers · 15/06/2021 21:00

Yes, keep your head inside the train! Terrifying!

I didn’t have the naff naff sweatshirt but had lots of kangol t shirts! And a woven rucksack, chunky black shoes and denim skirt with buttons.

In fairness, that seems rational. Grin

Re: SweaterShop/Benetton/NafNaf stuff etc - I remember that being the uniform of the 'hard kids' at school that we, as the proto-indie kids (bit too young for proper grunge, not goth enough for goth), were a bit scared/dismissive of...

Nameisjustaname · 15/06/2021 22:01

Yes, I have just been to YouTube for episodes of 999.
Loved itGrin

FruityPolos · 16/06/2021 06:43

Yes, the railway safety book - don't put your head out of the window! My senior school was next to a train station and we had regular assemblies about railway safety.

roobicoobi · 16/06/2021 07:20

@VaggieMight

I remember watching an episode of crimewatch where the e-fit of the suspect was so disturbing I couldn't sleep, and i was cacking my pants on the way to and from school in case he was out there.

I found Crimewatch generally scary, but the e-fits were hilarious. The regular family joke of saying it looked like my dad never tired Grin

@VaggieMight Crimewatch terrified me. I remember one reconstruction where they poured petrol through a letter box and lit a match. Couldn’t sleep after that.

Did anyone read Virginia Andrews books during their teens in the 90’s? Flowers in the Attic, My sweet Audrina…. All the girls in my class loved them. We were about 14/15. My English teacher was shocked to find out I read them 😂

Bluesheep8 · 18/06/2021 14:01

@Wantingtomove123

Yes!! I did, very disturbing. I'm sure I've seen the username Mysweetaudrina on here actually...
