Just remembered 999 with Michael Burke. Gave me a lifelong fear of swimming after seeing an episode where a girl's hit got caught in a fan in the pool!

Impulse 02 gassing everyone.

Snatch the dog everything especially bedding!

Swimming badges sewn onto costumes. Found a cossie in a charity shop for 20p with 1000mt sewn on it which deluded everyone in my Y6 swimming class - I couldn't swim 1000mt 😂

Anymore?

Why oh why can you not buy impulse 02 anymore?? Absolutely loved it! So many memories in this thread, a great time to be young!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/06/2021 23:00

We had The Sweater Shop HQ in the next village. Their factory sales were the best thing ever. So many bargains.

wejammin · 14/06/2021 23:06

Did anyone else watch "strange but true" with (I think) Michael Aspel, the guy from "this is your life"? It was my absolute favourite as a young teen. Also watching Surprise Surprise with my mum, and The Bill with my dad. Aaah, good times!

scrivette · 14/06/2021 23:11

The Benneton duffel bags, I had a red one and loved it.
Hair mascaras, they were brilliant and they should do them again.

DoreenWinkings · 14/06/2021 23:30

I miss the 90's.

The joy of going to the pub when you were in your mid teens knowing you'd get served.
Ringing round the local phone boxes to find out where your mates were so you could go and meet them in order to hang round looking bored and drinking cheap cider or 20/20.
The unspoken rivalry between them what wore vintage cord flares (from Top Shop on Oxford Street), Adidas gazelles and retro t's and them what wore big baggy jeans (spliffy?) and puffa jackets - with an orange lining.
Wearing little silk nighties out clubbing - again well before we were 18.
Gigs - Oasis vs Blur
Hanging around outside White City on a Saturday morning because the guests on Going Live (or whichever iteration they were on by then) would come out and sign photos - we met Blur, Take That, Boyzone etc etc
Learning the dances to terrible but catchy songs - Saturday Night, Steps, The Macerena
Diet Coke breaks
When 081 811 8181 changed to 0181 811 8181...

sigh

Take me back, take me back!!!!

Loved the two Quiddity by Chipie perfumes - sometimes if I concentrate hard enough I can almost smell them.

All the girls in the changing rooms after pe using the same brand of boots roll on - the blue colour one which for some reason we thought was the boys’ version. Smelled great! Every now and then I get a whiff of it so there must be another brand with the same scent.

Mum’s soft n gentle - the peachy colour one

Late 90s was the era of alcopops - so many different flavours. Used to go to the uni offie because they never asked for ID.

HeechulOppa · 14/06/2021 23:38

Oh and that (thankfully) brief era when shiny satin shirts were in. Went to a friend’s birthday and about 8 of us were wearing them. Alas we were not the cool kids so got a fair bit of mickey taking - don’t think we ever wore them again.

Chenille jumpers that were good for a couple of wears then would completely fall apart and clog the washing machine.

Glitter jeans!!!

Hair mascara and glitter hair spray and face gel.

Glitter everywhere!! My dad hated that era. He was a policeman and kept finding glitter on his uniform

PaddleBoardingMomma · 15/06/2021 00:07

Round the twist, sister sister, sweet valley high...

Sixpence non the richer, Madonna and her seemingly never ending come backs, the Austin powers movies...

Knots landing, Savannah, air wolf, gladiators and blind date, and don't forget the generation game...

Nobranothanks · 15/06/2021 06:51

I'm so glad I found this thread... I thought I was the only one with irrational fears due to watching 999 when I was too young 😂😂 I remember all of these episodes!

Thebone that got me was the person who got stampeded by cows!! To this day I will not walk through a field with cows in it and frequently discuss why haha

Everything on this thread plus white musk and dewberry from the body shop

I've never stopped wearing White Musk. Really wish they'd bring back all the perfumes from the 90's though....

dottydaylia · 15/06/2021 08:52

@TracyBeakerSoYeah ..Bizarre...I have just put my daughter's Snatch duvet cover in the wash this morning! Mine from 30 odd years ago and still in really good condition like yours!

dottydaylia · 15/06/2021 08:53

Oh Tehmina..all that music, hot summers, takes me back!!

Spied · 15/06/2021 09:19

I've just remembered the fashion for white jeans.Made my thighs look huge.
There was also a trend for green jeans.
Remember wearing long satin A-line skirts from Topshop with silver attached belt. I'd wear with see -through lace black shirt. My bag was a mini-rucksack.
Also loved the illuminous lime green satin hipster mini-skirt I'd wear with an orange satin shirt.
There was a body spray called Addiction Saffron? I think it was called. I carried that everywhere along with my Boots Natural Collection Candyfloss lip gloss.
I also remember Woolworths did a 'Fruits of Nature' range that was good and a bit cheaper.

LadyJaye · 15/06/2021 09:38

Reading this thread has made me ponder the fact that I haven't heard of anybody falling off a bike/wall etc and getting a spike stuck through their leg for years, given that it seemed to be an almost everyday occurrence in the 90s.

Purely anecdotally - I never met anybody that it actually happened to (more a 'friend of a friend of my uncle's son' sort of thing, much like people who've had their arm broken by a swan), but it was definitely a thing. I seem to remember it happening in Casualty quite a lot, too.

Talking of Casualty, I watched it last year for the first time in about a decade and Duffy had died and Charlie was sad, so I'm never watching it again.

InglouriousBasterd · 15/06/2021 09:47

I have no idea why Impulse haven’t re-released 02. They’d make an absolutely killing!!

I used to love that perfume so much!
ButIWantedToBeYourValentine · 15/06/2021 18:36

@LadyJaye oh yes ! And standing on a rusty nail was always popular!
And why on earth was quicksand a thing ? I was absolutely terrified of the beach and any soggy looking sand for years, thinking I'd just get swallowed up!

@DoreenWinkings I can still remember the phone box number outside our local shop - ringing it to see if it was worth the 10 min walk down there
