Mumsnetters who support trans women, please comment here

Mumsnetters who are gender critical - please please do not comment here, this is not a discussion thread, I just want to see if there are other people here who share my views.

I believe feminism is nothing if not intersectional.

I feel really alone on mumsnet. Every time I come on and want to get advice about something or just waste five minutes there's always another trans thread. Maybe this website is not the place for me?

Oh for goodness sake. Now I’m pretty sceptical over why you actually started this thread Hmm

Thymeinthegarden · 13/06/2021 14:32

The thing is by 'support trans women' are you meaning 'and don't therefore support women having sex based rights'? Can you clarify? Thing is you see, I support all women, not some versus others.

JustKeep · 13/06/2021 14:32

Support in what sense?

I absolutely support trans womens’ right to wear dresses, to choose to use “feminine” names, and to live free of fear and harassment.

That doesn’t mean I have to support every single demand made by every single activist out there.

sar302 · 13/06/2021 14:33

Having an alternative view point and staying it respectfully really isn't bullying...

TabithaTiger · 13/06/2021 14:33

@ShirleyPhallus

I support trans women

I also believe that sex cannot be changed and that the current trans movement is damaging to feminism

It’s possible to be both

@LiberaceTrumpet

Sad
What is it about what ShirleyPhallus said that disturbs you, op? Specifically, rather than stupid emoji speak?
SiobhanSharpe · 13/06/2021 14:33

I too believe that transwomen should be entitled to all legal and civil protections as everyone -- but not at the expense of women's sex-based rights and safe spaces.
I think you'll find many trans women agree with this too.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 13/06/2021 14:34

@LiberaceTrumpet

Why did you all come here so quickly when I asked you please not to? Are other viewpoints just not allowed on this website?

I know whatever I say you're all going to rip me to shreds - it's bullying behaviour. Can't you see how you're silencing other viewpoints and beliefs on this website?

Do you think that trans kids deserve better than being put on a pathway of off label untested drugs that will, at best, affect their bone density and brain development and at worst, God only knows?

I want to hear your viewpoint on this.

somethinghastogive46 · 13/06/2021 14:34

@LiberaceTrumpet
You are not alone.
I suspect you are very far from alone, I think probably a lot of people just don't want to be drawn in to arguments though.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 13/06/2021 14:34

Depends what you mean by Gender Critical.

I support Trans Women and believe they need our love and support, I believe they should be able to live their lives as women for the most part. BUT I do not believe that they belong in cis-women's sports, the reason being is that they have been through male puberty which makes them biologically stronger than if they'd been born a cis-woman.

Some people might then say i'm not an alley because I hold that view. I will continue to try and be an ally in the best way I can :)

LilacSorbet · 13/06/2021 14:35

But you wanted people to support trans women to comment here (it's literally the thread title), and so far that's been the case?

I also support trans women and trans men.
I support women's rights.
I believe the TRA have harmed the cause of trans people.

SionnachRua · 13/06/2021 14:35

I'm with you on this but any thread that references trans people pans out this way, so you shouldn't be surprised.

OP, I don’t understand your thread at all. What does ‘ I believe feminism is nothing if not intersectional.’ mean in plain English ?

It sounds like another stupid corporate slogans, ‘blue sky thinking’, let’s have the bandwidth for this’…

I’m in my fifties and not conversant with the latest weird trends but I am definitely still a feminist.

Because you don't get to dictate who posts on what thread.

I agree with @ShirleyPhallus entirely.

Why did you all come here so quickly when I asked you please not to? *

This is kind of how I feel about male bodied people in girls and women’s sex segregated spaces and activities

Glitterandunicorns · 13/06/2021 14:38

@LiberaceTrumpet I believe trans women are women (and trans men are men). I know exactly what you mean about the threads on here sometimes.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 13/06/2021 14:38

What do you mean by support?

Do you mean: I support your right to wear what you want, call yourself what you want, sleep with any consenting adult that will have you, that people shouldn’t be denied housing or employment rights, for example, solely because they are trans?

Or do you mean total agreement and capitulation to anything any trans person requests?

username0489 · 13/06/2021 14:38

I support trans women and trans men and anyone struggling with their identity.

I also support the protection of single sex spaces and women's sports.

GrammarTeacher · 13/06/2021 14:39

@LiberaceTrumpet you're not alone. Although the thread demonstrates why not many are commenting in support. It's relentless.

Cocolapew · 13/06/2021 14:40

Why is it only TW mentioned. What about Trans Men? Don't you support them?

GreyhoundG1rl · 13/06/2021 14:40

What exactly is "relentless"?

KeepingTrack · 13/06/2021 14:40

@LiberaceTrumpet what do you mean support transwomen?
What about transmen?

MedusasBadHairDay · 13/06/2021 14:40

Just curious why you aren't looking for people who support transmen too?
