@StacysMomMandyJessiesEx

Very distressing for all involved

The op itself seemed to be rushed and written erratically, like to be the first to get a thread out there. The timing of it also…. It was literally still unfolding at the point of posting. I think that’s why people are taking offence and calling it ‘gossipy’

I’ll be honest, I was watching and I immediately called my partner. I think it’s shock. You need to discuss it with someone.
@1940s
so you weren't one of the millions of people on 9/11 glued to every available screen all over word watching in absolute horror the shocking events unfold?

give over. it's not rubbernecking.
it's fear and shock and utter disbelief and genuine concern for the life/lives of our fellow human beings.
I'm not blaming anyone at home for watching. I'm blaming the decision makers of the camera crew that must be briefed for multiple scenarios (streakers etc) and I'm horrified that professional broadcasters whom must have protocol for incidents yet they carried on filming close up of a man who very much looked like he was losing his life.

DaphneMoonsSeattle · 12/06/2021 19:23

The game is going to continue tonight.

RunningFromInsanity · 12/06/2021 19:23

Denmark game confirmed to restart at 7.30pm U.K. time at the request of both teams.

My husband did but he works in the medical industry so he wanted to understand what was going on

Medical industry?

He just wanted to watch like everyone else who watched - human nature.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/06/2021 19:27

@RoseAndRose

Given the tone of threads at the time of the World Cup and other major fixtures, I'd be surprised if many MNetters were actually watching....
and they aren't on this thread.

your point?

Absolutely this. It’s vile.

You need to think how the people involved feel, after the event, about the footage, the photos, the threads on forums such as this. It affects them for years to come knowing this stuff is out there. They read it sometimes. It adds to their trauma.

Cushionsnotpillows · 12/06/2021 19:29

@StacysMomMandyJessiesEx yes and couldn't even spell his surname right, you'd think such a big fan would know Confused

I'm not blaming for anyone watching. There's so many who watched at home aghast at what was happening praying they would see a happy ending.

I'm blaming the professional broadcasters. The absolute top of their game. The ones who must have protocol for events such as this or even streaking. I'm blaming them for not giving him the choice or the dignity. 'We' could turn off at home. But he had no choice and not could his family to have his moments aired.

GinAndTonicOnIt · 12/06/2021 19:35

I'm so pleased for this thread. I'd never heard of him and don't follow football but as a family we were all watching and very worried - ya know because we're human and it's sad to see any human fall and be in a medical emergency. I was straight on here because I was so worried and thought Mumsnet would know updates sooner. And.... Mumsnet did.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 12/06/2021 19:36

I’m clutching at straws but I believe the broadcasting stayed on because they were trying to get the team assembled to allow for the transition and to allow the presenters themselves to pull themselves out of the shock of the events happening before their eyes.

BBC didn’t have control of the broadcasting, the coverage was being screened by a foreign company.

By the time media team and presenters had gathered they pulled the feed, but you could clearly see the distress in the presenters.

ViciousJackdaw · 12/06/2021 19:40

Is everyone OK? I've been reminded of other football disasters over the last couple of hours and I'm sure some of you might be feeling a bit wobbly yourselves. Please tell someone (even me) if you are and it's not going away, don't think you are 'making it all about you'.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 12/06/2021 19:40

Statement from Gary Lineker on Twitter and the BBC text commentary page:

I understand some of you would have been upset with some of the images shown (we were too). Obviously these were the host pictures and out of our control. They should have stayed on a wide of the stadium. Apologies.

Yet I don’t see complaints about video streams from hospitals showing war victims or starving children etc
boompah · 12/06/2021 19:44

The actual picture quality is quite poor overall in the Euros. Not sure who has the broadcasting rights to film it but it's not very sharp

pussycatlickinglollyices · 12/06/2021 19:44

That isn't what this thread was created for.

Honestly. Why did I bother?

bwfcchick88 · 12/06/2021 19:46

Horrendous - I'm just so glad he's awake. Brought back memories of Fabrice from 2012. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

AngeloMysterioso · 12/06/2021 19:49

So why criticise the human beings in control of the cameras then?

Whoever was in charge of the feed... that person actually decided to cut to a shot of him having chest compressions. Cut to a shot of him being defibbed. Cut to a shot of his crying teammates. Cut to a shot of his distraught wife.

Somebody actually chose to show all that.

They could have stayed on the crowd, they could have had replays of earlier parts of the game, they could have cut back to the respective broadcaster studios much sooner than they did (as could the BBC, and why the hell didn’t they?), but no.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/06/2021 19:54

@ViciousJackdaw

so sweet of you, thank you.

I'm Hungarian and honestly all I could think of was Miki Feher and his tragic death on the pitch.
Seeing Eriksen collapse like that and the whole thing unfolding was like seeing it happen again, like flashbacks.
I really honestly thought the worst.
I can't imagine the agony of everyone close to him.

I'm ok though, thank you (was watching game with DS2 & his mate, not alone)

hope you are ok too and everyone else.
fuck it, let's have a group hug x

@MNHQ would it be possible to amend the title of the thread in light of the positive news from the hospital?
Thank you

Maybe get his name right this time?

Better still delete the thread. Poor man.

This is right - firstly it takes some time before it's evident that leaving the stadium coverage is the correct thing to do. The decision to do that also takes time, a producer can't just decide to do that unilaterally. Then presenters and crew need to be briefed before you can come back to studio. A replacement programme has to be prepared and it would be very unfair to expect the presentation team to fill for ages while that was all happening. The problem with the coverage came from the stadium director's decisions, which were nothing to do with the BBC.

Well, thanks.

Twice in one fucking thread and all I get is fucking criticism from the MN hit squad.

@MrsBongiovi and @Viggohytten aren't you so superior?
