@TheFairyCaravan

I’m complaining to OFCOM about the BBC coverage. I don’t think I’ve been so disgusted in all my life. He was getting CPR and they thought it was a good idea to zoom in on his wife. They’re utterly disgusting.
In fairness to the BBC, they didn’t zoom in on his wife. The BBC aren’t responsible for the coverage. It was the host broadcaster that did that. It sounds like they could have cut away from the feed a bit earlier though, when they realised the host broadcaster wasn’t going to show respect.

Thank goodness he’s been stabilised.

ILoveYou3000 · 12/06/2021 18:44

*I don't think it's specifically BBC cameras but the feed for all broadcasting.

They did cut back to the studio and the programme ended.*

From what I can gather UEFA control these feeds and everywhere received the same images. It wasn't BBC cameras and there's a question mark over whether contractually they could cut away before a decision was made on if the game was continuing. Which seems very unfair for everyone.

It was without question the most distressing thing I've ever seen. I couldn't stop shaking afterwards. My heart absolutely goes out to all that we're there, especially his wife, teammates and the Finland players, all of whom were visibly distressed. Some of those players are so young.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/06/2021 18:44

@SallySycamore

There are a surprising amount of otherwise fit and sporty young adults with undiagnosed heart conditions that can cause something like this.

Thank goodness for the medics on standby.

yup. like a friend of mine. he was 17. nobody knew he had congenital heart disease, collapsed playing basketball, unfortunately didn't make it.
RunningFromInsanity · 12/06/2021 18:45

Apparently the Danish TV channel cut away immediately

QuentininQuarantino · 12/06/2021 18:45

Was it the bbc commentating though? They didn’t need to keep speculating “that may be his wife, or his girlfriend..”

TheFairyCaravan · 12/06/2021 18:45

It was too late. Horses have more dignity.

And no-ones tv appears to have an off switch

I agree. All those people complaining about it being shown chose to watch it. As soon as it became apparent it was serious I turned it off.

RoseAndRose · 12/06/2021 18:46

UEFA statement expected imminently

BaconAndAvocado · 12/06/2021 18:46

Awful.
All Spurs fans here. Lots of tears earlier.
Recent news sounds more hopeful 🙏

I agree, no one forced people to keep watching, people chose to as they wanted to see what had happened. It's like when people pass a car accident, some can't help but look.
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/06/2021 18:48

apparently he's awake in hospital & is stable

sorry, forgot source; something Danish

RoseAndRose · 12/06/2021 18:48

Danish FA have said he is 'awake' (conscious?) and awaiting further tests in hospital

Thank goodness.

Much love to his family and team mates.

Such an awful thing to have happened and to witness.

foodiefil · 12/06/2021 18:50

For goodness sake anyone criticising the BBC:

  1. it wasn't their feed
  2. they cut away quickly
  3. they cut to the studio and put another programme on as soon as they could
  4. it showed the fast medical response and emotional response of fans and players - real life
  5. a country without the bbc and only commercial broadcasters would be a very sad place to live. Learn to value what we have
RoseAndRose · 12/06/2021 18:53

Tweet from some pundit I've never heard of:

"Finnish fans chanting "Christian", Danes answering with "Eriksen" here at Parken. Even in its darkest times, this is a beautiful game"

Bovrilly · 12/06/2021 18:53

This will also have been very distressing for the presenters, crew and production team on the BBC coverage, and for the crew at the stadium. (Having been in a similar position myself)

Beautiful

Football is not important now. Health is

Why?

You have a remote. Turn the tv off. If you didn’t, then you have done the same as the cameras that continued to film 🤷‍♀️

Exactly
StartingGrid · 12/06/2021 18:55

Those saying "turn the TV over, why watch" obviously didn't see how quickly it played out. Within about 25 seconds of him collapsing there was not only a drone shot of him prone on the ground, but also a zoom in on his face as fellow players tried to check for a pulse. We didn't know what had happened to make the decision to turn over.

And the human beings on the camera were in exactly the same position 🤷‍♀️
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/06/2021 18:57

so good to know he is stable.
he's very lucky

so much can happen in an hour....

1940s · 12/06/2021 18:57

It doesn't matter if people have the choice to turn off or not. His dignity should have been respected. He had no choice to consent to that footage. It was absolutely horrific that it was captured. Never mind the choice of all at home to turn off or not. Anyone watching truly felt we were witnessing a man lose his life. Should never be aired on TV

Viggohytten · 12/06/2021 18:57

I hate drones, but the drone doesn’t know how serious it is until they have the pictures and then they can’t intake them 🤷‍♀️
