The camera pointing at him on the floor with his eyes OPEN at the very beginning should have been enough to cut away! That image alone was horrific!!

They didn’t stop filming until he was going off the pitch, terrible!

anon12345678901 · 12/06/2021 18:57

@StartingGrid

Those saying "turn the TV over, why watch" obviously didn't see how quickly it played out. Within about 25 seconds of him collapsing there was not only a drone shot of him prone on the ground, but also a zoom in on his face as fellow players tried to check for a pulse. We didn't know what had happened to make the decision to turn over.
So the BBC clearly knew as much as you as to what had happened in those 25 seconds yes? The people filming were more distressed than you seeing it in person for themselves I'm sure.
LaurieFairyCake · 12/06/2021 18:58

Thankfully he was sitting up as he was stretchered off

Plus he's now stable

ILoveYou3000 · 12/06/2021 18:59

"Finnish fans chanting "Christian", Danes answering with "Eriksen" here at Parken. Even in its darkest times, this is a beautiful game"

I've just seen the video, goosebumps especially when the whole stadium erupts into applause.

Gertie75 · 12/06/2021 19:01

Regarding the media coverage the thing that I'm wondering is why it took so long for the photo of him alive on the stretcher to appear, I sincerely hope the photographer wasn't trying to get the best price.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/06/2021 19:01

@1940s
so you weren't one of the millions of people on 9/11 glued to every available screen all over word watching in absolute horror the shocking events unfold?

give over. it's not rubbernecking.
it's fear and shock and utter disbelief and genuine concern for the life/lives of our fellow human beings.

lostitall · 12/06/2021 19:03

Omg how awful the look on his face with his eyes wide open was horrific. The rest of it awful too. But the photo of him sitting up is amazing and I hope he will make a full recovery
This photo also gives me goosebumps

Omg Christian Ericsson. Collapsed. CPR.
trappedsincesundaymorn · 12/06/2021 19:03

@1940s

It doesn't matter if people have the choice to turn off or not. His dignity should have been respected. He had no choice to consent to that footage. It was absolutely horrific that it was captured. Never mind the choice of all at home to turn off or not. Anyone watching truly felt we were witnessing a man lose his life. Should never be aired on TV
But you didn't respect his dignity enough to stop watching? If you truly felt you were "witnessing a man lose his life" why carry on gawping at the t.v?
StartingGrid · 12/06/2021 19:03

I don't doubt they weren't, but I wasn't looking to top trump trauma anyone, just point out to those judging we're not all rubberneckers. Not really sure what your point is with this reply

People complaining about the footage - any reason why you all kept watching instead of changing the channel?

Pyjamagame · 12/06/2021 19:06

So that's positive. They wouldn't continue play if they were overly concerned about his condition.

Because you say you had a short amount of time to not switch off, the people filming were in the same situation. I don't see how you didn't understand that tbh.
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/06/2021 19:11

BBC: his condition is improving.
game might resume at 8.30pm tonight

anon12345678901 did you miss the part of my post where I explained for the benefit of the pearl clutchers how quickly it happened so we'd all seen too much before it became apparent it was life threatening, I didn't berate the camera team...

My apologies if you did, I didn't see that amongst all the people complaining about the bbc who had seemingly lost their remotes or the ability to avert their eyes. I apologise Thanks

UEFA tweet:

Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC).

The last four minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.

StacysMomMandyJessiesEx · 12/06/2021 19:15

Very distressing for all involved

The op itself seemed to be rushed and written erratically, like to be the first to get a thread out there. The timing of it also…. It was literally still unfolding at the point of posting. I think that’s why people are taking offence and calling it ‘gossipy’

nocoolnamesleft · 12/06/2021 19:15

I understand why so many people don't switch off. Life and death fixes your attention like nothing else. The dawning realisation that this is prurient takes longer. That isn't something to be ashamed of, it is simply human. The switch of emotions from everyday (though presumably excited), to confusion, to dawning realisation, to horror, to desperate hope: that takes time. And posting on here, is that really gossip? I don't think so. It's closer to a debriefing, as people who were totally unprepared to witness such a thing face their emotions, and in a small way their own mortality.

1940s · 12/06/2021 19:17

@trappedsincesundaymorn I didn't watch it! It was horrific. My husband did but he works in the medical industry so he wanted to understand what was going on.

I strongly believe regardless of the choice people had in their own homes that footage shouldn't have aired. If he had died (which was a high probability) his family and close friends would have had his last moments aired. The decision on who watched at home shouldn't have been a choice. It shouldn't have aired.

I suppose this is a good sign in terms of CE's condition and I guess faster the players get back on the pitch "the better" so to speak..... just feels a bit???? I don't know what?

So why criticise the human beings in control of the cameras then?
RoseAndRose · 12/06/2021 19:18

Given the tone of threads at the time of the World Cup and other major fixtures, I'd be surprised if many MNetters were actually watching....

Absolutely. And perfectly put. It takes time to process exactly what's happening. That was the case for those on the field, the camera operators, the studio staff and those watching at home.
