I got bitten tonight, and it's got streaks on my arm now: it's a bit sore but not too bad. Weird! Do I need a drs appointment in the morning

I’d never heard of tracking either and I’m glad you started this thread. Now I’m wondering what tracking looks like on dark brown skin versus pink skin.

I’m also very glad you’re been being seen and treated quickly. Rest up, you’ve had a horrible 36 hours.

BlackAlys · 08/06/2021 09:11

@1forAll74

I would just put some regular ointment on it, after bathing it in warm water. I have had several bites from insects doing garden work, but never go to a GP or anywhere.
Dear oh dear. So important to not blithely dole out advice without reading.
BlackAlys · 08/06/2021 09:12

@sherlockhomeless Really relieved you're on a ward. My word, how utterly alarming if you hadn't! Thanks

How you doing today OP. I've never heard of tracking. Thank god you got seen quickly.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Thanks

@SinkGirl

They're awful things aren't they. I had never heard of them until she got bitten, I wonder how often spiders get blamed when it's actually those flies from hell that are the culprit

This thread is a warning to us all.

Apparently they spread out more into gardens when water features became a thing. Bloody Charlie Dimmock.

There’s a caravan park near me where we used to go as a kid for swimming etc. I got four bites on one arm and my arm looked alien.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 08/06/2021 10:29

I've heard of tracking but didn't really know what it meant, or have any idea of what it looks like.
Your photo serves as a lesson to us all. Thank you for sharing and I hope you get better soon. It sounds very scary, but thank goodness you got to hospital so soon.

PainterInPeril · 08/06/2021 10:47

@sherlockhomeless I'm sorry you're going through this and I hope you feel better soon. Sending love and flowers. FlowersFlowers

Haven't RTFT so sorry if it's been suggested, but might you now be Spiderman?

JocastaNu · 08/06/2021 10:55

Yikes OP, this is terrifying. Hope you feel better soon.

@BoreOfWhabylon

They're not really green, it's just for illustrative purposes!
Oh but they should be....like Hulk but as Bruce Banner....and we'd all have them!

Between your suggestion and my take on @BoreOfWhabylon's image of the lymphatic system...we might be on to something here!

Hope you're feeling better @sherlockhomeless!

This website and associated book might help you with that! www.blackandbrownskin.co.uk/mindthegap

@ThumbWitchesAbroad what a wonderful resource. Thank you for that!

DumplingsAndStew · 08/06/2021 12:02

@ThumbWitchesAbroad @JingsMahBucket

I would never have even considered that. Blush Thats a very interesting page.

@sherlockhomeless

Hope you are feeling better soon. I react awfully to bites etc, and am very guilty of just trying to ignore them. I still have some horrendous deep scars and damaged skin around 3 inches wide around some mosquito bites from 2019. My skin does not heal well at all.
Am glad you got it looked at quickly

deathbyprocrastination · 08/06/2021 13:40

Been thinking of you, OP. I hope you are improving today

Thank you - you're welcome!

I heard about it a while ago, I think in response to post partum puerpera or similar in black women being less well recognised, which can contribute to the higher rate of black maternal deaths. Such a good idea, it's just amazing it's taken this long for someone to think of it!

I didn't see anything specific about septic "tracking" on there, but hopefully someone would be able to post a picture to the website for future reference.

TheGonnagle · 08/06/2021 14:18

Just popped on to see how you’re getting on. I hope you’re feeling better today.

ScrollingLeaves · 08/06/2021 14:32

What a terrible experience. Thank goodness you went to the hospital and didn’t ‘wait to see’.

You sound very ill. I hope you will feel better soon. 💐💐💐

Muuuuuuuuum1 · 08/06/2021 16:43

Just adding my well wishes to you OP - hope you're doing better today. Thank you for sharing your experience on here. Like many others I had no idea about 'tracking' and that it's a sign to get seen urgently. FlowersFlowersFlowers

Loubiemoo · 08/06/2021 20:04

Scary how fast things can change!

NC276 · 08/06/2021 20:33

Hope you're feeling better OP! I had never heard of "tracking" before this thread. And I'll never forget it so thank you for posting!
