I got bitten tonight, and it's got streaks on my arm now: it's a bit sore but not too bad. Weird! Do I need a drs appointment in the morning

@GhostTypeEevee

I was wondering if it was a Blandford fly. My dsis was bitten a couple of years ago and her foot swelled up with blisters
I’ve had many BF bites in my life, the most memorable swelled my ankle so much I couldn’t get my baggy DM boot off for three days! Evil little fuckers
GuyinLimbo · 07/06/2021 21:47

Going to echo others on here who mentioned the Blandford Fly. I briefly lived in Blandford Forum some ten years back and ahem "made the acquaintance" of this tiny terror the first summer I was there!

Similar story: huge swelling, red lines tracking. You don't happen to live in Dorset or near the New Forest do you OP?

Abricot1993 · 07/06/2021 21:55

@Cheesybiscuitsmineallmine

To the people saying a tick bite, ticks cling on and have to be removed. The area then shows up with a bullseye rash if they have been carrying lyme disease (not all do).
Agree this is not a tick bite. Ticks cling on and swell over 2 to 3 days. They only later cause a rash if they are infectious. We are very tick aware here in Switzerland as not only to they carry Lymes disease (treatable with antibiotics and often appears as a red ring around the bite) we have encephalitis. This is only prevented by vaccine. We have been vaccinated. You do not have encephalitis in the UK yet.

Glad you went to A&E, hope the meds kick in soon.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 07/06/2021 22:16

Wow, every time we go abroad on holiday I get badly bitten and have had these tracking marks on numerous occasions! I always assumed it would just taper off by itself, and clearly I'm lucky that so far they have Shock

Timeisavirtue · 07/06/2021 22:23

Ooh, had one of these a few years back, didn’t go to the doctors though 😱 I just grinned and beared it... it didn’t swell very much I thought it was just a bad bite. It disappeared about 2 weeks later.

3luckystars · 07/06/2021 22:24

My friend was bitten by a spider (in Ireland) it was a ‘lace web’ spider and left a fang behind, it got really serious and he was lucky to make it.
So it definitely is possible to be bitten by a spider here. I hope you feel better soon, I’m so glad you went to hospital too.

VaguelyInteresting · 07/06/2021 22:54

Came to say spider bite and saw your update...

My friend had very similar - her spider bite was further up her arm but basically exactly the same as you. She was in hospital a few days then off work for another week I think, recovering as she felt really rough, and her arm was sore for a bit after.

You poor thing. I hope you’re well looked after. Flowers

@sherlockhomeless

I've got antibiotics, steroids and antihistamines going. It's so grim. I think I'll be here for a few days.
@sherlockhomeless

Op, how are you getting on?

Smallredclip · 07/06/2021 23:25

I’m only here for the photosGrin

ARealHoliday · 07/06/2021 23:47

I’m only here for the photosGrin
Also adding my vote OP! But hope you’re do okay in hospital and well done for getting prompt help.

Well good for you. But the OP sight medical advice, was sent to the GP who sent her to A&E who felt she was bad enough to admit for treatment. Nothing she could have grinned and bared like oh so brave you.
sherlockhomeless · 07/06/2021 23:51

Definitely not a tick!! Okay, so I'm sweating my arse off on the ward next to the one I work in and I used to work here so I know all the nurses here My boss is going to come and say hello tomorrow Blush when they take the massive bandage off tomorrow I shall take a photo of my mangled arm. I don't think it's a false widow as it was honestly so small but it did hurt.

The issue I have at the moment is I'm extremely allergic to penicillin and the infection/ reaction is tracking up my arm. The bite was in the crook of my elbow and the tracking streaking marks are all the way up my neck and down to my wrist. So I'm having a lot of blood tests. They said they might have to take me to theatre tomorrow to wash out the original bite as it's now the size of a golf ball and oozing through the dressings. They're really concerned I have sepsis so I'm being treated for it, I have a temp of 39, heart rate of 125. I feel shit today.

They've asked for more bloods tomorrow as my immune system appears to be absolutely zero. I am on infliximab for my crohns which is a biological drug but absolutely shouldn't cause this much impact on my immune system! DH brought me some lovely things this afternoon and now I have pjs instead of a gown! But it's so lonely on this ward, they're all so busy and they know me as I used to work here so it's weird!

So take home message from this thread, if you have weird tracking from a wound or bite do not hesitate to see a dr!

I hope feel better soon. It all must've been really quite scary.

I hope you have a book to read. Don't forget to ask your DH to bring in a bath towel (it somehow makes being in hospital so much better), flipflops, headphones so you can listen to music on your phone and most importantly, more Percy pigs 🐽

sherlockhomeless · 08/06/2021 00:05

@weesleekitcowrantimrousbeastie honestly yes! It's so easy to just think oh that's annoying I'll ignore it! So so glad I just went in last night as I'm usually one for ignoring things and cracking on with it but those lines in that photo last night made me feel a bit weird just looking at how fast it spread. By the time I got to A&E they were purple and really prominent, I've never been seen so fast before! The triage nurse said 'come with me' and stuck me in a bed and within 15 mins I had a dr putting a cannula in.

I'm so shocked at how fast it's progressed! I've told DH to watch out for any beasties in the garden!!

How absolutely horrible for you. Hopefully they’re pouring antibiotics into you and it will start retreating soon. Draw the curtains and have a little cry. What a day.

RampantIvy · 08/06/2021 00:06

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Junebean9 · 08/06/2021 00:11

Glad you're getting sorted

Smallredclip · 08/06/2021 00:23

Gosh that sounds absolutely rotten! I really hope you’re feeling better very soon x

BlackeyedSusan · 08/06/2021 00:24

bloody hell. I knew about tracking means get seen, but bloody hell at the speed of the worsening. shocking

so glad you got seen quickly and hope they sort it out for you asap.

Summerdayshaze · 08/06/2021 00:31

Hope you can rest up and let the docs get it sorted for you. X

Usernamerequired · 08/06/2021 00:34

Oh my god how scary!! As soon as in seen your photo infection/poisonous bite alarm bells went off. I hope you are ok and get the best treatment. Your boss seeing you tomorrow will save you calling in sick. Get well soon ❤️
