Holiday was moved from last year to this year and now I'm here im having a shit time.

Dp is ill, sudden gall bladder trouble and in pain and indigestion all the time. 3 strong lots of antibiotics and he's no better, tired all the time, lost weight as he can't keep much down.

I'm upset because I hate seeing him from going from a fit and active man to one who is sleeping a lot. The kids dds 9 and 11 know there's something wrong but they don't know what. Theres talk of ultrasounds and ct scans..I'm convinced he has cancer.

We shouldn't have come but dp wanted to. I'm going to the very limited shows with the kids but most of it is prebooked the whole atmosphere just isn't the same..just not the same.

I could cry (no judging) just going to drink a large glass of wine instead

So sorry you're going through this. Hoping for the best.

Re your birthday - I would mentally add a month on and decide to celebrate it on 30 June then forget about it for today.

whataballbag · 30/05/2021 06:18

Glad he's finally being taken seriously. The amount of times he seems to have been fobbed off by his doctor is ridiculous.

I had similar a few years ago kept getting awful pain under the ribs and drs kept saying 'oh it's IBS, it's anxiety, there's nothing wrong etc'

When I eventually got an endoscopy it turned out to be hiatus hernia and gastritis 🤦🏻‍♀️ something so easily treated yet I had to suffer for months!

Cantchooseaname · 30/05/2021 06:23

Hope you manage some rest and answers today- take care of yourself.

OP, I’m so sorry - what a faff (as far as trying to deal with illness on holiday and get back home) and then your poor DP, being so ill. I’m sure that was an absolutely dreadful car ride home, BUT you’re home now, he’s where he needs to be, and he’s getting the help he needs.

Since he is having gallbladder problems and now is running a temperature, I wonder if his gallbladder was blocked and now has gone “bad.” While that’s serious, it’s also a fairly quick fix - they can remove the gallbladder, and usually (caveat, usually, so not in every case) people say that recovery from surgery is still less painful than how they felt with the gallbladder attacking them. I’ve had gallbladder attacks and they’re really, really dreadful; it’s your stomach that rebels on you, as your gallbladder loses the plot, keeps emptying into your stomach at warp speed with SHARP pains, and making you ill.

I do hope he feels better soon and that you won’t have to worry much longer. Flowers

Oh and if for any reason they discharge him from hospital still having his gallbladder, consider trying a super low fat diet. Not for general health, as I don’t think eating fat is evil, but because sometimes limiting it can help with giving the gallbladder a break. It can be difficult though, trying to stay at or under 10g of fat per meal (and you can’t “bank them” to save for later). I know it won’t work for everyone, but it had a huge effect on my attacks.@@

WorriedMillie · 30/05/2021 07:05

What a horrible time you’re having OP, I’m so sorry. I hope that you both get some answers today Flowers

TatianaBis · 30/05/2021 07:06

For the moment OP I’d focus on his having cholecystitis/infection - that’s bad enough and the current symptoms would cover it. No reason to think it’s cancer yet.

AnnaMagnani · 30/05/2021 07:09

If he gets sent home still with gallbladder then he needs to avoid all fat to stop triggering further attacks until he can get his gallbladder removed.

It is a very miserable diet - I ate a lot of steamed fish and veg which is OK until that is all you eat, every bloody day - but it does mean no attacks.

His gallbladder needs to go.

Cowbells · 30/05/2021 07:11

OP I am so sorry for you all. It's horrible for such a long awaited holiday to be ruined let alone by something so serious.

FWIW, I had gallstones when DC were small and one of them blocked the duct to my liver or something (I was existing on about 2-3 hours sleep at the time due to an ill DC and barely knew what was happening. But it made me exhausted and I looked and felt like death. Once it was cleared, I felt a lot better.

ghostmouse · 30/05/2021 07:21

Oh I'm so scared but thank you all.

His bloods are all over the place and they've just taken more. I've heard that cancer is detected this way and they can tell from bloods so I'm thinking the worst.

He has been on 3 strong lots of antibiotic and its made no difference at all so perhaps there is a blockage somewhere.

His indigestion pain is awful and when he's sick he brings up yellow stuff but the pain under his breastbone in the middle is always there.

I didn't know that the gall bladder empties into the stomach (I know I need lessons on anatomy)

Hes been on a no fat diet for about 6 weeks. Its not helped except made him anaemic and he's lost too much weight (he's slim anyway)

rainbowstardrops · 30/05/2021 07:27

Oh @ghostmouse what a rough time you're having. Thankfully though, your DH is where he needs to be now and 🤞🏻 he gets some answers now.
Best wishes for your birthday too Thanks

TheQueef · 30/05/2021 07:28

Good to hear DMum is available, now delegate the unpacking and laundry!
And don't Google yet wait to see what the blood rules out.
Go in early on the cake too.
With the bank holiday he could be in a few extra days so grab any rest you get a chance of.

Footle · 30/05/2021 07:44

The yellow stuff is bile.
I'm sorry to hear what you're going through.

CovidCorvid · 30/05/2021 07:49

Hopefully the scan today gives you some answers and that it’s not bad news. Are you allowed to visit?

Blinkingbotheration · 30/05/2021 07:51

Hi @ghostmouse, sorry you’re having such a miserable time💐. The gallbladder being out of sync can send blood results all over the place so for the time being put cancer to the back of your mind. The yellow stuff he’s been throwing up will be bile- if he’s got this sitting in his stomach he will feel like utter crap in addition to the gall bladder pain - I have bile reflux currently and can confirm it’s horrid - constant burning, nausea & very weak (I’ve lost a terrifying amount of weight). BUT, it’s not cancer. The gall bladder empties bile into the duodenum and it should then go down through small intestine - sometimes due to inflammation (or just random bad luck it seems) it refluxes back into the stomach. Hopefully when they sort his gallbladder it’ll help with that (if it’s what he has) at the same time. Don’t panic, lots of more likely explanations!!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 30/05/2021 07:54

I wouldn't have gone on holiday under these circumstances to be honest. I've had gallstones and all zi could do was lie on the floor sweating. Its sgony. Can you not cut it short and go home?

Its90minutestonight · 30/05/2021 08:01

I'm glad he's finally in the right place OP. And remember, many, many things are diagnosed via blood tests.

MrsPerfect12 · 30/05/2021 08:06

Fingers crossed you get answers for your husband soon. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Happy Birthday. 💐

HansChristianSolo · 30/05/2021 08:06

Oh Ghostmouse I hope you both get some answers soon, and whatever it is isnt too serious Flowers

Lightswitchesoffatnight · 30/05/2021 08:07

I felt awful with gallstones, really ill. Once I had my gallbladder removed I was completely back to normal.

I hope that’s all he had @ghostmouse

Lightswitchesoffatnight · 30/05/2021 08:08

I had loads of blood tests, it’s how they monitor gallbladder disease.

BlowDryRat · 30/05/2021 08:09

That sounds awful OP. I'm glad you're home and he's getting the medical attention he needs.

Do you have any sort of travel insurance that will cover you for the disrupted holiday?

averywittyusername · 30/05/2021 08:10

Oh Ghostmouse so sorry you're in this situation. Sending best thoughts to you & DDs, I hope you get positive news for DH soon.

countrygirl99 · 30/05/2021 08:11

Sounds like my BIL. His gall bladder issues had caused a liver abscess, nasty but treatable.

averywittyusername · 30/05/2021 08:12

And happy birthday Flowers
